"No duh" right? But the point is the game was way more fun for us fans this year when they could dominate the trenches.

I'm talking heavy resources. One stud free agent and maybe a huge trade up.

Lawrence - Crawford - suh(?) - fast stud draftee x

We're close. And our formula works. But also we may have gotten lucky with creating turnovers so we need to be proactive and generate more chaos.

I'm so against this. For all the analysis the draft is still random. Mortgaging them farm is such a risk (Claibourne), best trade in yearso was the Fredbeard one. If they dropped to the mid second and gained and extra 4th for their first I'd prefer it to moving up. And no tight ends...

It will be interesting to see how they approach FA. Will they go after 1 premier FA(Suh/JPP)or go the route of adding 2 good players(graham/Fairly/Paea/)? Either way, we'll be much better.

Not sure how much luck goes into those turnovers. All 4 years that Rod Marinelli was a DC his defense finished in the top 5 in turnovers (and 5 out of 6 years he was in the top 10 as a coach (both head and DC)).

I thought you said lets learn from how we built the offensive line? I don't recall us signing any over-priced FA's or mortgaging a draft to get one of those guys.

Stay put. Trust your scouts. Bring in some athletes in FA.

I see what you're saying guy the right DL is a total game wrecker and his value is exponential . Just saying if we see a stud I wouldn't blink at making a big move. Could be romos last year

It took 5 years to collect all those first round OL. We need to use FA to finish building the DL.

DLaw and Crawford look to be keepers, maybe one or two of the other young guys pan out. But they need a SDE and another DT pretty badly.

The can still draft DL, but it should be in addition to FA, not instead of

While Dallas didn't do anything with mortgaging draft picks to select OL, they did overpay in free agency.

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys' shopping spree continued Friday with guard Nate Livings agreeing to a five-year, $19 million deal that includes $6.2 million in guaranteed money.

The signing comes on the heels of the team adding Mackenzy Bernadeau to a four-year, $11 million deal Wednesday, and should complete the moves on the interior of the offensive line.

My goal is a trade down into the second as you rarely get good value at DL at the end of the first round. I would hope to get an extra 2nd and maybe a 3rd.

Then I look to spend 2 picks in the first 3 rounds on DL help.

I also would like to find some help at RB and possibly OG or Safety/CB.

In FA I'd like to franchise Dez while trying to get a long-term deal done and go after one second tier vet FA - someone like a Brandon Graham. I'd like to bring back RoMac, Durant and maybe Carter at LB if the price is right. I'd like to bring back Carr on a restructure for 2 years $6-8M.

If we manage to get those things done with good investments, good draft picks and expected development for the players already on the roster we should be even stronger next year.

If we fail to substantially improve this defense next season, I will have no expectation of a Super Bowl. We had favorable situations throughout the season that got us where we were. We cant expect that to happen again, we can only hope for it. If we make solid moves on defense, and solidify our running game, I will have lofty expectations.

It's about spending wisely. Not just not spending at all. JPP isn't worth near what he is going to command. Not when he has so many injury concerns. Suh isn't coming to Dallas, thank god for that. Who else is out there that is going to set the world on fire? If we took a run at someone like Avril (I mean the type of player not necessarily him) I would be all for that, but not for a big contract.

What is your point, exactly? That has nothing to do with what I said or with the OP.

Let me re-iterate once again. I am all about spending, as long as it's spending wisely.
