We can do what Philly did - Keep the Faith

I was bored and went back to see what we were saying about the Eagles before the season started. No one here thought the Eagles would win the Super Bowl, although many believed they would win the NFCE. Here are some other opinions by some posters, many of whom I like on this forum:
I didn't come out and say it, because as a Cowboys fan you don't say things like that. I also said many times I do not believe Hurts is that good. The great running game is what makes his passing situations favorable. But woth the addition of Barkley, I was very worried about what the Eagles could do this season.

I agree with you 100% on Roseman. I never said anything bad about him. He has marching orders many GMs don't have. He has free reign. He runs the offseason like he's playing a video game against a bad AI. He doesn't have a lot of resistance. As opposed to our GM that has house rules to limit our progress.

Jerry will always avoid cutting or letting a player go before his contract is up because he hates to pay twice for the same position on the team.

and Wentz being here or not, would depend on how many Jerseys he would sell, nothing else would matter.
Carson Wentz would be the highest paid player ever today if Jerry drafted him.

Roseman is smart. Jerry and his son are not

Roseman is shrewd. Jerry and his son are not.

Roseman understands how to work the cap. Jerry and his son do not.

Roseman is great at trades. Jerry and his son are not.

Roseman is willing to admit a mistake and quickly fix it. Jerry and his son will not.

Roseman knows how to use FA. Jerry and his son do not.

But other than that, yes, we can be just like Philly.

Dallas is good enough with the worst front office to win 10-12 games every year

If Jerry stepped aside and let others (not Stephen) do NFL caliber work then we’d probably be a dynasty
Not every year, for 2-3 years. After that we fall apart to mediocrity for several years due to strange drafting, ignoring of needs, and being completely incapable of being proactive and not letting problems exacerbate before looking for fixes.

And now, we're fixing to do it yet again. Deepest DT draft since 2012, we have a monstrous need there, and Jerry's fixing to take yet another WR. And that in a draft where WR is weak at the top but deep. Just dumb. Dumb beyond dumb.

We are decent at drafting, but suck at free agency.
So until we get a decent GM,
The NFCCG is a pipe dream.
I think we suck at drafting. Only time it works out is when good players fall into our laps. Think about it: Parsons, Lamb, Martin, all fell into our lap. And then consider, Martin and Parsons were not the plan. We only took them because the guy we wanted was gone.

I think we are really bad at drafting, but get lucky once in a while.

Our FO's biggest fault is the Eagles biggest strength.

They don't fall in love with their own players and know when to move them to get good value return.

The only way for this team to succeed with their current philosophy is to get lucky.

Is it possible, yes. But this front office operates nothing like how philly operates. Cowboys will make moves to barely stay relevant, Philly makes moves to try to win a SB.

Those were the days when they got 5-6 wins a year in the NFCE. Ain't happening again anytime soon.

I haven’t done much research on this years draft because most of the fun has been stolen by one man’s ego, but I’ve read around here that there’s no DT worth taking at 12 unless the Michigan guy falls.

Then I see a mock from a familiar site and there’s three DTs going in the top 20.

That’s where they need to invest (with a trade back) obviously, but why would they suddenly have such a change in philosophy given all the success? Besides, since Osa got paid, the position is set right Jerry? “It better be, that’s why I pay him like I do.”

They want a WR and it’s either gonna be that at 12 or they will absolutely reach/fixate on one in the second the way they did with Joseph and Schoonmaker.

Standard operating procedure.

As by letting several very good players walk. And by trading Wentz. Which are directly tied in, as the Eagles used draft picks they got in trades to get both Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter. They would've never gotten either w/o the draft captital they got back.

Offhand, I'd say that's mostly done by those who clamor for WRs and Cbs.

DT is just so hard to evaluate. IMO, there's around 5 or 6 worthy of a 1st round, but manalive, it's just so easy to be wrong.

Hurts is a "football player" who is an OK QB. Needs everything around him to be just right to succeed. Had it last year, as well as a nutlock D which was easily the MVP of the super bowl. Prolly bottom of the top 10 type QB. Great attitude, team guy, well liked. Has lots of really good intangibles.

Can we? Sure. Will we? Absolutely not. Eagles have a real GM who answers to the owner for his performance. When the owners are the GMs, they answer to no one. You think we change our ways after 30 years? Nope.

Dallas has no idea how to build a championship roster once Jimmy left. Switzer was able to get the most out that roster because it was so deep and the team ran on auto pilot. It fell apart soon after and we have never ever even gotten back to one single conference championship game. Why? Because Jerry took over the team blueprint. They don't value the trenches and build outside in. They get fleeced on every trade, no matter which side they are on. They hit on some first round picks but not enough and rounds 2-7 are VERY bad overall. We don't value free agency at all.

It's not even that we don't value FA, it's that we are so football dumb we have no idea who to sign so we just throw darts.

Are you aware that while Jerry was ferting around w/ frickin' Pacman, SF went out and signed DT Justin Smith? Yup, the guy who led them to the super bowl. We aim at the wrong guys. When we do parttake, we do stupid things like signing a #2 CB to #1 money.

100%…and one real world Cowboys example of how this can be detrimental is falling in love with players.

When there is no clear separation between the owner and player and no ultimate performance accountability, it is too easy to let loyalty cloud rational decisions. Jerry has shown he can be loyal to a fault but a real GM doesn’t have that luxury.
