Some fans approach Cowboy games with caution, wary of past disappointment. They ration their hopes and dreams with the knowledge that things can go south in a hurry in the world of sports.
Others approach games with sunny enthusiasm, certain of success. The Cowboys won last week...and the week before...Hey...it's been 8 straight wins. Why should Sunday be any different?
There isn't a right or a wrong...no moral high ground to either approach. You are the king or queen of your own fandom.
But there is one kind of fan I find irritating...and there are more than a few on this forum.
They lack rationality to their optimism and you see them every week in the game thread. It's early second quarter and they are shrieking, melting...
"How can this be happening? We are so much better."
"Garret is an idiot. We should be ahead by two touchdowns right now."
"These guys didn't set their alarms."
"That play right there...we lost the game right there."
Some of the fans that carry themselves with real tough-guy machismo during the week can sound like little girls before half-time.
Here is the reality:
We could EASILY lose tomorrow. There are a hundred scenarios where we end up with a loss and the Ravens leave the stadium still undefeated all-time against our Boys. We could play hard and still lose.
The Ravens have won five games and lost four *close* games. Could the Cowboys blow Baltimore out, sure, but that would be the first such loss for them this season. Indeed even last season when the Ravens went 5-11 they were close in every game until towards the end of the season when they had nothing to play for.
If you want to be optimistic....great. Just don't forget that NFL football games aren't easy, and don't forget how often they are decided in the last five minutes.
My prediction:
Cowboys 23
Ravens 19
