We drafted a top OT in the draft and people want to sign an old OT free agent?

See here is the key thing you said, what was i WATCHING.

Yes, I actually watched. I am not basing it on idiot media people who never pay attention to practices and lazily write narratives.
Ive watched everything I can.

He has been getting beat bad. So you either need new glasses, or need to stop blowing smoke up the Cowboys organizations collective you know what.
I think Josh Ball has been ok on most snaps, but it's the visual of the plays when he does fail that disturbing to fans.
- It reminds me a bit of Diggs at CB (with regards to complaints that other than INTs, he was not good in coverage).
- He actually gave up a lower completion percentage than Jalen Ramsey, but his yards per completion allowed stat was almost double Ramsey's.
- The big plays are what fans see. Very few fans watch the LT on all snaps.

So let me get this straight,
We drafted a top OT in the draft that most thought was really the 2nd best OT in the Draft and ppl here want us to sign some old and washed up OT Free agent, (Really) Wow.
McG had already beaten out Tyler for the LG spot so move Tyler to his Natural Position of LOT and ppl are complaining. Also we have two OT that we are developing Ball and Wojo, Ball has played better w every snap so whats the beef, let them play ball like they were drafted for
Smith wasn't the 2nd best OT.
The Cowboys Staff/FO committed to playing Smith at LG all offseason.
I think the only complaint is moving back to LT with minimal snaps in the League, especially if he's viewed as the starter Week 1.

This is what I gathered, but maybe some guys are fussing about something else.

Oh stop. He was not all that good in either preseason game. If he's our starting LT, Dak had better get his track shoes on because he's going to be running, a lot.

If the choice is Ball or Tyler Smith, frankly, I'd throw the kid out there and hope he's a quick learner. But make no mistake, it was never the intention of the coaches or FO for Smith to be playing LT this early in his career.
He doesn't appear to do much of anything particularly well.

His only asset is being a large person. If someone wants to suggest that Philbin isn't exactly great at getting the most out of players, I dont think I'd disagree.

Steele was garbage at LT.

Hiw much of that was due to playing next to Connor Williams instead of Zack Martin is debatable.
He improved as he accumulated more starts at LT.
- He was definitely much better at RT, but by his final start at LT he was decent.

Walter Football has a list of free agent OTs on their site, most that started off on the list have been resigned or signed with a different team.

However, there are a couple of old guys that are said to be basically "still fairly good but don't have much time left".

If Dallas only needs to get Smith some playing time in the NFL before they move him to LT then an "old guy" signed for one year would, imho, be the way to go. Doesn't really matter which "old guy", just somebody who has some talent....

This is a huge loss. Smith could be an option BUT it’s an extremely difficult transition and it could have a terrible effect on a young player if he’s not prepared for it. We’ll see how the team handles this.. should be interesting. Now say they do move Smith to LT and he absolutely gets hammered in the opener? Then what’s the plan? You see a FO smart enough to overcome that?
You have to keep rolling him out there to get better.

If they did do this move week one (i don't think they will), I do think there is a good chance he struggles.

He's our RT at this point, don't think there's any question about that, so it doesn't really matter if he's got issues at LT, he's not going to be played there...

LOL at writing off all the guys who have pointed out Ball's poor play as "idiot media" people who don't pay attention to practices, etc.

Sturm probably pays attention more than you. And he has concerns about Ball.

Its Ken you are talking to.

The guy is probably a front office member masquerading as a fan.

This poster LITERALLY NEVER says anything derogatory about this team. EVER. After 27 years of futility it makes you wonder.

Here’s some tape on Ball vs Chargers. Not great.

Right, those were the misses i referenced in the run game. He also had some nice run blocks.

he was good in pass pro which is the priority.

I had him rated as the most physically talented OLineman in the draft. I posted that several weeks before the Cowboys drafted him.
- Obviously he was not the most well developed technically.
- Larry Allen had no technique when he 1st stepped on the practice field as an NFL player.
- He he had some ups and downs as a rookie (see the gif that somebody recently posted of Reggie White tossing him to the ground).

Lol.

Yea, other than all the times i did and was absolutely right. Byron Jones overated, Don't draft Zeke, Don't resign Zeke, Dlaw stealing money.

It just has to be warranted. Not because everyone else says it so it must be right mentality that permeates fandom.

I rather find a vet with some game experience better than what we currently have on the roster. It’s a big gamble fielding a rookie too soon and whenever they shuffle the Oline, it doesn’t usually go well.

What I see with Josh Ball is a player with ability but one that needs reps to improve.
- I'm not certain practice reps would even be enough.
- Steele got those types of reps in 2020 and became a solid player in 2021.
