We escaped 0-2, barely

I'm thrilled that Zuerlein made that 56-yarder to win. However, I was worried. I felt like McCarty missed a chance to get him closer. He should have called that timeout and then run one more play before the field goal attempt. I would have felt way more confident in something like a 48-yard, or even a 51-yard, attempt. But, hey. Zuerlein did it. He was clutch for us this week. I'm hoping the first game was an aberration.
Yep. That would have been the top story today if Zuerlein didn’t bail us out. Assuming we wouldn’t have won in OT.

Two thing about this game.

One, it was a win and while aided by the Chargers mistakes, still a win.

Two, this game did nothing to change the minds of those that think this is a good team and those that think it isn't.

NFL is filled with close games and there were a slew of them yesterday. Cowboys went on the road playing against a talented team and beat them. Personally I'm going to enjoy this win.

Yes, and going from the East coast playing at the SB champs, and almost pulled out the win. Then 10 days, go to the West coast against another team good on both sides of the ball.
to pull out a win on back to back road games is very hard to do.

We now have 3 home games against lesser opponents, or seem to be. Though are the Panthers legit at 2-0?
Eagles and Giants, also. But division rivals. All 3 games will be, and I hate saying this, a good test, as I do not like that term.

Take wins how you get them in this League. Never be ashamed of a win. They are hard to come by. Dallas could have also be 2-0 right now if Greg the Leg doesn't leave 4 points on the field against the Bucs. Dallas is 1-1. Onto a divisional rival and the first home game of the season. After a victory Monday...onto week 3 folks.

IDK. I was influenced that we won a tough game on the road as underdogs in a game that wasn’t going our way down the stretch without the Chargers turnovers and penalties . I wasn’t sure we had that ability. This team might be better than I thought.

First time we’ve won a game in like 3 seasons without needing 30+ points. If we can continue winning the turnover differential this team could have more success and go further than I thought possible.

Greg Zuerlin’s 56 yard field goal as time expired stamped out the forbidden start to the season we had feared. It also stamped out the horrid game clock Mgmt in final sequence in drive as Prescott led a 49 yard to set up the kick.

Chargers gifted us a turnover on horrid pass in the end zone and penalties thwarted scoring opportunities on 2 TD’s called back providing an opportunity for final winning drive .

Throughout a season you need games you probably shouldn’t have won. But we did just enough and took advantage . But the final kick bailed out an otherwise game heading to a loss.

We’ll take it. Avoiding 0-2 is huge. We hadn’t started 0-2 since 2010. Now we come home to 3 straight under our own roof and will be favored in all with only one( Panthers) with a winning record.

An 0-2 record would have presented many challenging issues and concerns moving forward. Now we can be more optimistic looking to be 5-1 or 4-2 at the bye instead of struggling to reach .500.
Will take a barely win, anytime

Those 2 TDs called back on fouls that were unrelated to the TDs.....well, I'll take it!
We've had that crap happen to us in the past so it was our turn

1-1

That’s today’s NFL

True and on top of that you find out you will be without both starting DE, safety will be out with groin injury. Your right tackle just got suspended and one of your key WR will be missing a few games. As HC you got to get the team past all of that and focused on the game at hand and you got to get some guys ready to come in and take over. Cowboys play was far from a perfect game but they showed they were ready and showed the mental toughness. We gave up big plays but defense never rolled over, they just kept fighting and made plays to help this team. There is a lot to clean up and improve on but this in my view was a big game for the Cowboys and showed that mental toughness needed to win games.

One of them was a clear hold on LVE. If he wasn't held, Herbert would not have been able to deliver the pass. How are they unrelated?

So true!
Nice to be on the other side of those breaks!

So flip it and do the same from chargers side. We were up 14 to 3 and dak threw a ball that dropped into their hands. They were lucky they weren't down big at that point.
It all is part of the evaluation. I’m not sure all fans have the ability to separate their emotions .

I’m not discounting how big and important this win is. We are all enjoying.

But if you are in the film room breaking it down after the fact you must weigh in all of the events and how it shaped the results.

This game proves what a lot of us has been saying all along is exactly right.

Focus on the run game = Win

Throw the ball 45 times = Loss

Hopefully this is an eye opener for the coaches going forward. Dak doesn't have to play great if you have a good game plan with the run game.
If that is your takeaway, then I guess you are free to feel that way.

I, on the other hand, feel like in both games in 2021, we took advantage of a defensive weakness / what they were willing to give up.

TB, one of the best run defenses in the league and play to stop the run, period. Moore said he called run plays, but Dak checked out based off their alignments.

SD, played their safeties back and therefore seemed more concerned at stopping the big plays Dallas receivers are capable of. So Dak probably didn't have to change the runs to passes since BOTH safeties were 15+ yards away from the LOS.

I couldn't care less how we win, as long as we win.

I just don't want to see us doing one thing over another just because you have to "establish the running/passing game".
If that means that we need to pass the ball 45+ times a game, then so be it.
If it means we run it 75+ times in a game, then so be it.

Take what the D gives and exploit weakness / match ups. THAT is how you win in the NFL.
