We gave up on Amendola way too soon

Knew this kid would be good, and he's doing pretty decently in St. Louis.

He catches the ball well plain and simple.

He would have been a great slot receiver for us.

We were battered at wide receiver to open the '08 season and didn't even bring up Danny Amendola from the practice squad for a courtesy sniff.

And he sure as hell wouldn't have made the roster last year with the emergence of Kevin Ogletree.

Amendola knew he needed to get the hell out of Big D, he was never going to be good enough to be a Cowboy.

Amendola had his chance here in Big D. Did you watch him in preseason? He was mainly gonna be a ST return guy and during his job audition he muffed a punt and cost us points. Everybody loves to point out things after the fact but turn a blind eye when it actually happens.

I've been a supporter of Amendola since before training camp.

We need more wrinkles in our offense, and he really brought it.

Our receivers kill Romo. They don't catch nearly enough balls as they need to for us to be as succesful as we can. Its worse than our oline doesn't give Romo the amount of time other elite qbs get.

We didn't give up on him ever. He was not ready to take a slot and he got picked off our Practice Squad before he was ready to make this team.

The Cowboys never gave up on him.

He didn't have to leave.

Danny Amendola chose to sign with the Eagles after our season ended instead of signing a futures deal to remain in Big D because he felt he had a better chance to stick with them than he did us.

Could have resigned him last year before the rams did.

I'd take him over Hurd easily...

I would have given him a roster spot over hurd as well.

Re-read what I wrote and ask yourself this question.

How is that Dallas giving up on him?

That is the either a really weird echo or a tragic redundancy.

True. He left voluntarily.

Amendola to join Eagles practice squad: Wide receiver Danny Amendola will join Philadelphia's practice squad today, according to his agent, Tom Mills, after spending the season on the Cowboys' practice squad.

The Cowboys had a seven-day exclusive negotiating period with Amendola close on Monday. The team wanted to sign him for the 2009 season, but Amendola was reluctant after not getting called up during the season.

I agree. In fact it is quite the opposite. Amendola gave up on Dallas. He was not picked off the Cowboys practice squad. His contract with the Cowboys expired after the 08 season like any practice squad player. At that time he chose to sign on as a practice squad player for the Eagles. The Eagles didn't even feel he was worth keeping.

His 7.6 yards per reception is not impressive and hardly what I would consider as "doing pretty decently in St. Louis". That is not even half of what the current Dallas slot receiver averages.

Why? Amendola can't cover punts or kick offs and that is what he would need to do to cover for Hurd's roster spot.

Truth. He chose to gravitate to greener pastures. No one can fault the guy for that.

Amendola did what was best for him. St. Louis has had a lot of problems or he wouldn't have cracked a starting role (which he only kept for 2 games BTW). Also like someone else said 7.6 yards per catch is pretty danged bad, even considering that hes a slot receiver.

Oh and he also fumbled four times.

Danny Amendola may well be a great guy and hes certainly very easy to root for, but hes not a great player and it's unlikely he ever will be more than a borderline player in the league.

I was just adding to what you wrote.

Danny Amendola gave up trying to be a Dallas Cowboy.

He knew it wasn't going to happen.
