We had a clear plan

I mean if you want to look at it from the rosiest glasses possible I guess you could spin it like everything went according to plan and worked out perfectly.

I'm not saying this off-season was a failure and everything is doom and gloom by the way. Things are STARTING to go in the right direction, but let's not pretend like there isn't still a ton of work to do. The OP seriously reads exactly like a Jerry Jones press conference.

I'm glad that Shazier was snatched so the team was forced to make the smart decision and go with the OL. Giving up next years 2nd to move into the end of the 3rd still shows their incompetence (unfortunately).

Exactly!!! With an aging player coming off back surgery at the most important position on the field do they not think a second round pick may come in handy? This tells me they plan to allow Romo to play as long as his little heart desires which is insane.

They didn't look happy from the pictures in the warroom. I don't think they were happy to go the route they went, but the draft didn't fall their way.

Crazy thing is that they should have been happy because they got a great player at a position that can really benefit this club. They of course wanted to do something really complicated and give themselves multiple opportunities to screw up. Honestly they pick pretty good players in the 1st round but after the Pappy Van Winkle leave them drunk and/or hungover they are all over the place.

Personally I prefer Martin to Shazier in rnd 1. I also prefer Lawrence to whomever at picks 2 and 3. We all knew that nabbing Lawrence at pik 47 was most likely not going to happen, I do believe that ATL would have taken him as he was pretty much the best pressure player left on the board. The Jones boys have admitted that they paid up for the player, I much prefer to do this than sitting back and not getting the player that Marinelli obviously felt that we needed to make this def all work. Hated loosing the 3rd, but sometimes it is better than the remaining options. Time will tell obviously...

Surely, they were aware that next year's draft is supposed to have a good number of solid DE prospects.

I sure hope so. They are so set on the " win now" mentality that it hurts the future. The defense can not be rebuilt in one draft, so they should be smart about it.

Borderline blasphemy .

Maybe the OP is even a secret member of the Jones family or a PR operative that Jerry has assigned to this forum.

The mantra is to live year to year. We want to win, this year.

That is not always what the draft is about, but hey.

There are a lot of good DEs scheduled for next year. But honestly, I don't have an issue with getting a RDE now. No NFL team can compete with a Selvie or Mincey as a starting RDE.

Personally I prefer Martin to Shazier in rnd 1.

You should. He is the superior player.

All in all, Stephen Jones is plastering the fact that we would have drafted Shazier and Trai Turner if things went "to the plan".

We came out ahead. In a big way.

And it was not due to "the plan". We had a few favors done for us to cover for the disaster waiting to happen.

I certainly like our plan better than the Philly plan.

1. Take an OLB no one projected to first round....I don't think he strikes any fear at this point.
2. I don't care how good the WR is, they took a step down from Jackson, probably a big step in rookie year.

And what the heck was Washington thinking? They have no first round selection, so the draft projects and another RB?

I like our draft much better than those two.

It'll be tough to overcome getting absolutely nothing from your 3rd and 4th round picks.

I have no doubt the first two players will be legit.

I have hope Dixon can push heath and/or Johnson off the roster...and Bishop can push Skates Hayden off....that wouldnt fully make up for the 3rd and 4th loss, but it's something

Eh. That's what people said when the reports leaked that the Cowboys would have taken Brockers and Wagner if not for the Claiborne trade up.

Two things will go a long way to improving this team's record by 2-4 games per year. It is something that has plagued them for many years.

1. Offense closing out games by running out the clock.
2. Defense getting stops at the end of 1st half and 2nd half to protect the lead and or seal the win.

If everything else were exactly the same but this team knew how to close out games they would finish 2-4 games better. I am hopeful this draft has helped address these two issues.

I wonder who put in the plan the part of "overpaying" to a division rival to move up...?
