Yeah some probably would say its silly to compare him to Brady or Peyton but physically it shows you can be in your late 30's and still be successful in this league.

Look at Favre, he was what, 56, when he finally retired?

I think Romo has 1 more great season. Not 3. It's next year or never. Superbowl or bust. Get it done. Go all in. 2 pass rushers and a lock down corner and we're odds on favorites imo. That's attainable in one offseason.

I don't think you need a great season out of Romo to contend. It makes the game easier but you just need someone back there to make that game changing throw and someone not to be careless with the ball.

Yea in reality Romo might have been less great this year than he was in the past, but he did what was needed and we didn't ask him to do to much.

Right. As long as the supporting cast around him continues to get better I see no reason to expect 2 to 3 years of this.

We've done the big name signing thing in free agency, and I can't think of one instance where it's led us to the promised land. We actually LOST big names this year and I thought this was going to be one of the worst cowboys teams in years and yet we ended up looking talented enough to win the super bowl. I'm not willing to bet the farm, rush out and get big names and completely wreck our cap situation for years to come. We need to take the sensible approach we've been taking in the past few years. What we really need though is finding a coaching staff that will be here for more than a couple of years, especially on defense. How can we ever establish a defensive identity if we're always switching schemes and coaches?

Charles Haley / Deion Sanders (granted we were in the promised land before Sanders but still Haley helped a lot).

I'm trying to make up my mind if a Full offseason will allow Romo to completely heal and strengthen from the surgery and the hits or will his decline continue to be glaring painful to endure...

I hope we draft a QB either way but Jerry has clearly doubled down....

We're in the salary cap era, so you can't completely stack up on talent like you used to. In more modern history, going all in has brought us the likes of Roy Williams or a Morris Claiborne. I was for both of these acquisitions at the time because I thought we were 'one piece away', but that didn't end up happening. Now, one huge FA acquisition that doesn't show up can wreck your team for years.

Right. As long as the supporting cast around him continues to get better I see no reason to expect 2 to 3 years of this.

My continued fear with Romo is that it seems like he gets up slower and slower with every hit -- as to be expected with an aging quarterback. How many more hits does Romo's back have left in it?

If I'm the Cowboys, I'm in full-out, win-now mode while the window still exists.

Yeah, I'm hoping there's some things he can do this offseason without a surgery to recover from that will help him out. I'd like to see him get back to practicing regularly, as well as not being completely useless on Thursday games.

One thing I'm curious about this offseason is if we see Romo undergo any surgery to "clean" things up in his back. And if he does undergo any surgeries, do they limit him throughout the offseason and going into training camp.

Unless his long term health is at stake, I really hope he steers away from more back surgeries unless 100% necessary. Another lost offseason and a slow start could be the difference between having another playoff shot and not and he just doesn't have that many years left.

Yeah, me too. Would not at all be surprised to hear about another "minor" procedure occurring this offseason. Really hope it can all be done with just PT.

I don't even think they need a star. By the time Romo can't go anymore I think his team will be in a place to where they can allow for a Alex Smith type quarterback run this offense if the defense has progressed as much as we need it too. I think our window is bigger than 3 years.

Well we have seen Alex Smith QBs get you nowhere in this league. Well besides a single playoff win. That's what he did in 2011. I do not want a guy like this at all. You have to have someone make plays to win now. I'm not seeing a Trent Dilfer type led team win anything anytime soon.

If they think the Romo window is 3 years, then their search for a new QB needs to start now. Really, it should have started after the loss to the Skins to end the season in 2012. You wait too long, you will waste the young nucleus we have here of the OL, Dez, Beasley and the rest.

The Romo window is 3 years. But that window does not have to close if they are smart in the draft and FA moving forward.

We played about as good as we could have this year. There's no guarantee that with the same personnel we'd have the same success. We overachieved on the defensive end and hid our flaws with good game planning. We also remained healthy in our area of strength (Romo, Murray, Dez and O-line). If we don't improve the players on this team, there's no guarantee we'll have another shot at a Super Bowl next year. We really need to improve the defense. And with Marinelli likely leaving, there's a chance the guys will play down to the ability we expected. Unless we get better talent wise. But there are so many holes on defense that it's hard seeing it turning around in one off season. If our window is truly only two years, I don't we need to go heavy in free agency and get some veteran defensive players.

Eli, Joe Flacco....those are all Alex Smith tier quarterbacks IMO. Better qb's? I think so. But they're closer to Alex Smith than they are Aaron Rodgers is what i'm saying. Even Russell Wilson last year.

I don't want to be negative, but I honestly feel as if this is the furthest we're going to get until the team is post-rebuild mode.
