We have a 3 year window

3 year window idea is just fantasy. The magic that was this season is unlikely to be duplicated or bettered next season. There will be a new cast of coaches and players for next season so it's impossible to say the window is still open with certainty. If the right personnel (coaches and players) are retained... sure the window could still be open for the coming year but too much has to happen to count that as a given for now.

Same here. I'm thinking maybe 2 years, and they better be all-in next season.

It's hard to determine how long Romo has, he's a smarter player this year for sure, but teams will continue to hit him every chance they get. Not sure how I'd handle Romo this offseason, I wonder if he just needs to take the whole offseason off, except for mild running, and things of that nature just to keep his stamina and some type of shape.

You keep the 'window' open by drafting a proper qb and stop playing around with other team's cast-offs or trying to find another undrafted hidden gem like Romo was. He could easily get injured the upcoming year. Are we just going to throw in the season because Romo's out? You get a guy who hopefully has the luxury of learning behind Romo but can step in and take over if Romo were to go out. I see around 2 great years max out of Romo, especially seeing as how he constantly has to get injections before games and how slow he is to get up.

too win the Super Bowl . Tony ,Witten , are the unquestioned leaders . This OL , Beasley , Williams , and dez will continue to get better . Can we build this defense up enough and make it happen ? It remains to be seen . But if it's going to happen it will be by 2017. I think our owner , coach and QB know this . This is one of our most important drafts coming up . We have too hit on getting a couple impact defenders and that should put us over the top. I expect an aggressive Jerry this offseason !

My personal feeling is we just had year one of that window...only two left

We have no window and there is nothing like it when we stay on course to what made us successfull. And that is good drafting and smart FA signings. Look at other good teams who play good football for years.

But if we start again overpaying for FA and dealing picks in the upper draft rounds - short if we let JJ and his stupid son dictate the building of this team - we sure will have a window and it wont be even 3 years long.

Fix our holes (DT, DE, FS, and CB), go back to a man coverage scheme, and resign Dez and a few others and we could be right back there next year.

Or this season could have been the high water mark of the Jason Garrett era. We won't know until next season. But here's what I'll be looking for this offseason:

1) Does Jerry start to assert himself more this offseason because he thinks the team is a few FA signings away from the SB?

2) Does the team continue to build through the draft, particularly in the trenches?

If I see a "no" to number 1 and a "yes" to number 2, then I think we will position ourselves for long-term success.

Yeah. It's like the Elway situation. In which Elway still had 3 good years left in him, despite having younger players in their prime around him. Hope this turns into a Steve Young situation, in which we can strike gold and find Tony's replacement in the next 3 years and keep this train moving.
