Witten is the best all-around TE in football. bro.

I agree, although he is slipping a bit. Witten doesn't block as well as he used to but at least he is still capable at it unlike a lot of other so-called tight ends nowadays (who are really just WR, like Jimmy Graham).

Afraid a lot of people just see other TEs starting to overtake Witten in fantasy football and use that as the basis that Witten isn't even top 3 anymore.

Okay, I'll play your game:

QB: top 7. When healthy I think Romo can be really good. There are times he looks as good as the best QBs in the league. There are also times I would take any other QB over him. Hopefully the improved OL and new offensive scheme will make him an elite QB. I'm saying top 7, behind only Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Luck and right there with Rivers.

RB: top 15. I think Murray can be a top 5 RB in this league when used effectively and when healthy. But I think our depth behind Murray is awful, plus I can't trust Murray to play all 16 games, and I can't trust our coaching staff to use them effectively. Top 15 is being generous considering all things.

WR: top 12. Dez is elite but behind him it's hard to know what we really have. Plus an injury to Dez can put us in a real bad spot. Dez alone makes us top 12.

TE: top 8. Witten is getting older but is still very good. Not really sure what to except out of Escobar.

OL: top 3. Very good and only getting better. And we'll be very good for a long time.

Overall, top 10.

This is a serious misconception. Everybody is healthy today, but there is a severe lack of talent of defense. And that will carry over into September.

NAw the starters aren't bad at all: Spencer, Melton, DL, Crawford. LB's: Carter, Lee, Wilber/Durant. Secondary: Carr, Mo Clay, Scandrick, Wilcox and Church.

I don't think it's a common misconception. Most of us know we lacked both health and talent on defense last season. And a lot of those players were released this year and have had to be replaced, anyway.

I do wonder, though, how people can see how abjectly bad our defense was last season and not realize that we got to 8-8 by playing pretty dang good offensive football, overall. Our offense is good, and it ought to get a bit better next year. It our defense that keeps us out of the postseason, and that got a lot worse before it got any better. Now we're in wait-and-see mode.

Putting aside all the weird rankings the OP had in his post, this offense was Top 5 in scoring last year. So the idea that this is a top 5 offense and could be even better this coming year isn't a total stretch.

Not sure why people think that's an outrageous prediction.

The more I read this list, the more problems I see.

You don't lose players like Demarcus Ware and Jason Hatcher and suddenly become a dominant defense. Most of your d-line are coming off serious injuries. It's unlikely they are all coming back and dominate. Your lucky if you get one of them to play at a high level. Spencer will start the year on the PUP list. He won't be ready before November.

Please explain to me how:

1. Our offensive line became one of the best after this draft. I am excited about Zach Martin, but shouldn't waiting to see him move to the next level be the requisite before claiming this is the best. I refer you to last year when people were claiming on this board Dallas had the best WR corp in the league just about this time of the year. Not to mention which Free we see showing up.

Never sure why people need to endorse a group on this team and then try and pigeon hole them at the top.

2. This offense is suddenly top five after drafting a guard, a WR, and a fullback. Yet the 34 year old quarterback is returning off not one but two back surgeries in the same year.

Babe Laufenberg stated a week before the draft that Romo will not play all sixteen games. And this may be the beginning of the end for Romo. Now Babe is not a back surgeon. Nor is he Madame Cleo. So what he says could be baloney. But I suggest he has been around this game at a level no one on this board has or can attain. So he may know something about this.

But in any event, the idea this team leap up in stature because of this draft, and ignoring the health of Romo and knowing one hit could end his career or at the least sideline him for the season makes no sense to me.

Some say this is a glass half empty post. Others will say this is whining and being negative.

The facts themselves have no slant one way or the other. I merely introduce facts here.

Off the top of my head

Offenses better than Dallas:

Denver
San Francisco
Chicago
Seattle
Green Bay
Philly
New Orleans
New England (just because of Brady)
Detroit

You could argue a a few more.
Are you crazy? San Francisco in no universe has a better offense than us, thier WR aren't beast mode all they have is a running game. Chicago may be a toss-up because B. Marshall and Alshon Jeffrey are crazy good as well as Matt Forte. Seattle is known for defense not offense, their offense damn sure is not better than ours. Green Bay is another toss-up because they have 3 super good recievers. Philly??? LMAO gtfoh outta here, our last place defense put the clamps on that "deadly" offense twice. New Orleans okay yeah maybe the Saints. New England as well is another toss-up. And Detroit is a toss-up. So from that list 2 are flat out better than us. 3 of them damn sure are not, and the other 4 are a toss-up with us.

Better at what? The Cowboys scored more points and had more yards than Seattle last year, Scored more points than the Saints and Detroit, had more points and yards than the 49er's and scored more points than the Packers,

Of course it depends on Romo being healthy.

But again, we were a Top 5 offense in football last year where we were 5th in the league in scoring and averaged .4 points per game less than the 2nd place team, Chicago.

So if one wants to assume Romo will be fine based on what the front office and coaches are saying (yes, I get the fact it's a big assumption), this offense certainly didn't get worse from last year and you can argue might have gotten better.

So I am curious as to why so many fans are up in arms over the notion that the Cowboys might have a Top 5 offense next season. Are some just hellbent on being negative for negative sake?

So, ever see a team that was bad one year and great the next? I have seen post after post filled with hope that the magic beans will produce.

So assuming what this offense was last year and extrapolating it to this year has that same component of the rags to riches, or superheros the riches to rags story so many love.

Nothing is static in this league. Things change, and the results from one year could be drastically different than the next.

And your hellbent on negativity comment is killing the messenger. I understand this is a favorite past time of people on this board. But the truth is assuming one year will lead to another year of the same is guesstimation at best. It has nothing to do with being negative.

It falls under the category of let's wait and see before we overload our predictions with hope.

This offense could be the best offense in the league and it has nothing at all to do with stats. There will be teams that, no matter what we do, will throw for more yards. That's how you determine offensive rankings but, that doesn't necessarily say who has the best offense. Points scored and TD Efficiency, together with TO ratio is really the better indicator of who has the best offense IMO. You also have to factor in how you call games. That's really the biggest draw back for us. We could have the best personnel in the league but if we continue to throw the ball 50 times a game, it won't matter. We need to understand that we can control or dictate with the running game, if you simply allow it to work. Every run doesn't have to be for a 1st down or for 5 to 7 yards. There will be times that we run for no gain. Just stick with it and keep running the ball. More good things then bad will happen for us. At least, that's my opinion on it.

1. Qb- Romo= top 10
2. RB- Murray- top 10
OL- Top 5
3. WR- Dez, T-will, Street, Beasley- top 3
4. TE- Witten, Escobar- top 3

We will be able to score on everyone this year, Seattle better be ready. Thoughts?

I think we have to become more consistent and do a better job on 3rd down conversions. Dallas can attack quick but we also tend to bog down too much.

Say what you want about our offense but it doesn't matter. For the record I'm confident in both our Offense and Special Teams.

With our team, it's all about the defense and what they can and can't do.

Romo's slow starts will prevent us from being a top 5 offense. We will probably have a top 3 second half offense!
