Love it. Piss and vinegar. lol. Sounds like my Ruby girl. My Countess Rubetta, her full name, our Halloween Kitty. She is a pint size pack of dynamite, who weighs only 6 lbs (she has gained a pound in her old age, lol). Tonight is actually her birthday! She turned 10 years old today. We found her in our driveway, nine years ago, scamming for bugs under our flood light. She had a huge gash in her neck and was slowly dying. Poor baby. We rescued her, and had her neck fixed, saving her life. The doctors determined she was about a year old at the time. And she has been our little "wicked" angel ever since. lol. She is a midget, very tiny, but scrappy as hell, and we love her big time. :) It's funny, when we first found her, she didn't respond to English at all. I got the idea to speak to her in Spanish, and she got so excited! So I figure she came from a Spanish speaking household. She did eventually learn English, and now years later, she doesn't really respond to Spanish anymore, which is sad for me, because I love to speak Spanish. lol

ETA: Although she does love Selena's music, which is wonderful for me, because Selena is one of my favorite singers still.

Wonderful story.....

I believe that all animals are on a higher plain than we are. They are way more connected to Nature, survival skills, and to inner solace than we are. We have been weakened by our own inventions of comfort and security and modernization. We could never survive what our brethren in the wild can. Or the strays, which really just means "homeless". We need what we need to survive and feel comfy and pampered, happy, and full of grocery store sustenance, and they just have the smarts and stamina to survive without. They have nothing, we have everything. Who is stronger?? They are. Who needs love? We both do. We are in a position to give love. They are only in a position to survive. Yet when offered love, they will take it. And then they will give more love, and stronger, than is humanly possible. Love is as important as food. Mathematics determines that we have it better, but they are stronger. We need each other and can learn so much from each other, is the only equation, and together, we are the perfect match. :)

Sorry for your loss. Losing a family member is never easy but it gets better over time, hang in there. Remember the good times. RIP Mattie.

She was a adorable 14 yr old Cocker Spaniel.
We had to let her go early this morning and I held her until the very end.

Really sorry to hear of your dog's passing. Our little Yorkie is getting up there in age as well and we can tell she has slowed down a lot over the last year. My wife will be devastated when she finally goes as those two are a team. Wherever my wife goes in the house Suzy is right behind her. When I got the dog it was originally supposed to be for my daughter, but that lasted all of 5 minutes. When my wife picked up Suzy she fell in love immediately and they bonded instantly. I enjoy watching my wife and the dog interact with each other. They both get so excited when they've been apart for any length of time.

I'm sorry for your loss... My mom also lost here Maltise-Shih Tzu this week... I loved that dog, she was so sweet, as I'm sure Mattie was as well... I was lucky enough to have my childhood dog live an exceptionally long/good life, he died of natural causes at the old age of 18+, but even that was not nearly long enough... It hurt so bad to lose my friend that I can't bring myself to buy another dog that I will eventually have to bury... That's one of the main reasons why I bought a Sulcata Tortoise 10 years ago, at 10yo he's practically still a baby, and he should outlive me by about 100 years... So one day the pet I bought as a young man might become the pet of my great grandchildren... That said, I love my tortoise a lot, but it's not the same as dog, nothing beats a good ole puppy dog... May the Lord be your comfort...

Thank you for the countless wonderful memories that you've provided us over the last 10 years. You were given countless trips to the lake/dog park/car rides, sleeping on beds/couches as well as a endless supply of love and attention.
I cant help but think we got the better of the deal.........

I feel your pain

We had our poodle from 3.5 months until he was 16 years 2 months. It was brutal having to put him down but necessary. I agree that we got the better of the deal. Despite the medical costs, food, etc, you never repay them for all they give you.
