We lost for one simple reason...

22 seconds left to play in the 3rd quarter. Cowboys up 24-20.

It's 1st and 10 from the NY 46 yard line.

We have been dominating in the running game.... And we throw a bomb?? Are you kidding me? We are up 4 points, the giants are playing a safety deep and you throw a bomb?

This is why we lost the game. This is the kind of stupid decisions that simply deflates a team.

We could have continued running it down their throats. We would have easily scored another TD and put the game away.

Yes. Dallas had made a lot of mistakes before this play, but at this point we were in control of the game.

It's not about choking, or talent, or anything else everyone is saying. This team had 3 turnovers against one of the best teams in the NFC, and they were still ahead by 4 and in control of the game by the end of the 3rd quarter. This is about making a dumb decision.

Honestly, does anybody think we would have lost the game if Garret had kept running the ball in this drive? Did we have any problems running the ball and scoring prior to this?

They handed the Giants this game on a silver platter.

I was telling a friend that very thing this morning. We had the mo back. We had the lead. We finally had great field position, and it was 1st down. If we score there we win the game, period. It makes me sick that we handed them points and field position all night, and even with that, we lost on a last second FG that may not have ever happened without ANOTHER unlucky bounce of the ball on the deflected pass on 3rd and 4. It is simply a dang shame that Dallas lost that football game.

Exactly. My buddy and I couldn't believe he was passing while watching last night.

I don't have a problem with the play call. The problem is Romo has to see the deep safety and either:

1. Audiblize out of that play
2. Throw to a secondary or tertiary receiver or
3. Throw the ball into the first row.

He does neither of those and throws yet another demoralizing pick.

What's worse is that Romo doesn't learn from his mistakes. Ed Reed made 2 picks in last year's game playing exactly the same way Philips made that pick last night.

When Romo sees that deep safety, he has to take the deep pass off the table and do something else. Period.

And if he's not seeing that deep safety, that's another problem. From high school, every QB is drilled that one of his pre-snap reads is to find the safeties and adjust accordingly, if necessary. It's not like Phillips was hiding behind a cheerleader. He was right in front of Romo, 25 yards downfield. Romo MUST see him and adjust before the snap, or else throw the ball away.

That's how you manage a game. Romo has yet to learn this. And until he does, this team will never win anything.

Nobody forced Romo to throw the ball into that coverage,he could have called an audible when he saw the defense. He could have even scrambled on that play as it looked like he had room to run.The decision to throw the ball downfield was bad anyway you look at it.Good quarterbacks don't constantly put you in those situations.

There were alot more reasons than that.

Althought right before that happened, I told my wife "All we have to do here is not turn the ball over. Run the ball a bit, Romo not be a hero, just be smart and if that means punting then so be it."

She said "They're only up by 4, they've got to score."

"That should be third or fourth on the priority list right now. Run the clock, don't turn it over, score."

Two plays later Tony airmails one to a safety he never saw.

My wife quietly snuck out of the room.

The playcall was fine. I'm sure there were secondary reads that presented a much safer throw.

Not that there aren't problems. Same can be said for NYG too. How about the Packers?

Tony Romo is Brett Favre Lite. Yes he is a competitor. Yes he makes plays. But is he any further down the bonehead meter than when Parcells was here? I don't see it.

Great post, that was a dumb play, as much as I hated the first two picks, they could be forgiven as a bad pass and a fluke, but thet last one was beyond stupid.

That was all Romo.

And he admitted he didn't know where the safety was on that play!

Unbelievable!

That's what so frustrating about the play.Call a timeout, call an audible, just do anything but turn the ball over.To me it is the quarterbacks job to do those things.

That play jumps out at me over and over again. Watching the replay of that play, every WR was going down field, Romo had no check down. He still should of thrown it away but it is perplexing given his inability to do that why the Garrett would call that play to begin with. If you know you have a gunslinger, you dont call plays that will put him in bad situations at key points of the game.

Romo deserves most of the blame but I think Garrett needs to share in some of it, he is as much of a gunslinger as Romo is. Bad combo, Wade needs to keep him in check, but we all know that isnt going to happen.

I also dont understand why the RBs are not more involved in the passing game.

Yeah, clearly Garrett coached Romo to seek out that blanket double/triple coverage and heave the ball up anyway. Just terrible coaching on his part.

It isn't a bad call - you have to go for the KO. It was a terrible play by Romo, plain and simple.

I don't have a problem with the play call. I actually think that we had Witten open for a short gain on that play. The problem, at least as I see it, is that we didn't recognize where we were at in the context of the game. If we get positive yards on that play, we put ourselves in a very managable down and distance situation. This is the thing that is missed most severly by our team since the departure of Parcells. At least, IMO it is. We don't seem to recoginze how important it is to avoid negative plays early in drives. If you look at all of the picks, they were all related to the fact that we didn't show good discipline where this is concerned. On the first pick, we had a 3rd and 10 and Romo just forced a bad throw. On the second pick, the tripping penalty put us in long yardage on 1st down, we had 2 and 10 when Romo threw behind a wide open Witten for the INT of his heel. I mean, that was pure luck but it was also a horrible pass for no good reason. The third INT was on first down but again, we were not mindful of the situations. We didn't need to go for it all on that play. I kinda don't understand that play to be honest. As a QB, the first thing you do is find the Safeties. I mean, that's the first thing. I don't know how Romo didn't find him but he clearly didn't. I don't know. It was just a bad game from Romo. He has to get better at that.

Funny. Everyone knows Romo is a gunslinger, why not call plays that will keep him out of trouble? The answer is cause Garrett is a gunslinger as well, he cant resist taking shots regardless of the fact that the Giants were loading up on the pass all night. Garrett needs to stay patient and take what the defenses are giving him.
