I think we are keeping 4 TEs Because McKeons blocking is IMO needed. We have a lot of depth and talent on defense we will rotate and keep. We have a big potential injury issue on the OL And probably need to go deep there. We have 3 WRs who are going to dominate snaps. I just don’t see us keeping 6 WRs unless both of the bottom 2 are great at running down on STs. What benefit are we getting from having both WR5 and WR6? I think that roster spot is better served elsewhere
The 4th TE is less a battle with a WR than it is with a RB.

It's more like McKeown and Luepke competing for a spot than it is McKeown and Fehoko or whoever.

My rule for keeping any and all skill players is this: Have a freaking game plan on how to use each one and find ways to get them involved or don't take them to the game. Hilton getting 1 awesome target and then never really going back to him was criminal.

I would really feel comfortable With

Lamb
Cooks
Gallup
Tolbert
Fehoko
Turpin

What say you ?????
The more I look at, the more that I think that Turpin may be on the outside looking in. I really don't think they keep more than 5 receivers. If he makes the team, it will be because they are comfortable using a roster spot on a return specialist.

Turpin is a receiver in the same way that CJ Goodwin is a cornerback. It is in name only, and everyone knows that they are just designated special teams aces.

He gives you nothing as a receiver and while his impact in the return game is above average, it was far from can't miss. I'll be interested to see how this pans out.

To me that's a little over simplified. There are 53 roster spots. All positions are in the same battle. We will definitely have the minimum to get by at every position and where you add from there becomes the numbers game. Most importantly the last spots will come down to STs. Those bottom WRs need to run down on kickoff and punt coverage teams because none of our top 4 will. So if both guys are on coverage units I could see 6 for sure, but if not it is less likely and there is absolutely no chance both will be active on game day if they aren't both on coverage units - which of course doesn't necessarily mean they can't be on the 53.

You can say the last CB and Safety are in a battle for spots, but even that isn't 100% true because it's still a battle against the 53 overall spots. For example, don't forget the rule change about emergency QBs. In order to be activated if needed they need to be on the 53 man roster not the PS. The assumption was we would carry 2 QBs. That could change this year due to that rule. Most likely IMO we only will put a 3rd QB on the 53 if Dak or Rush (or whomever is #2) is a little banged up that particular week and not week 1. But it's possible that may now be different this year.

We will have a minimum of 3 RBs and we will have a minimum of 3 TEs and 5 WRs. Where it grows from there is up in the air. It's one thing for a RB/FB to play as an H-Back. It's entirely different to line up on the LOS and block inline. If a player can be both your emergency safety and CB it allows for another player to be kept at possibly an unrelated position. If a couple of UDFAs at any position at all make themselves impossible to cut, it affects every other position. But, again, those last spots will likely be decided by STs play

Turpin experiment was a failure and I wouldnt waste a roster spot. Gallup I would try to trade
only way i am trading gallup is if we got some crazy comp...we weathered the post injury season with him and the real benefit will come this year since he will be fully healthy...why give him away?

If Deuce picks up returning both punts and kickoffs and shows he can do them well, Turpin might be the odd man out since Turpin did absolutely nothing in the passing game. Deuce is a proven legit weapon in the passing game.

The WR who might take over Turpin's WR spot might be newly signed Tyron Johnson. He can legitimately take the deep top end off of opposing Defenses, something Turpin never did last season (what a waste).

Turpin had no rest from one football season till the next. Was a nfl rookie last year and wasn't utilized in the passing game. Not his fault. Should be competing for a job on this team, he has the pass catching skills to get it done given the chance. Let us wait and see what year 2 brings this young and talented player before we off him.

No doubt, but some posters get in a fuss if anyone brings up the potential of replacing him.

Unless Fehoko and Tolbert prove they can contribute, who cares? I realize there’s draft capital there. But at some, just cut your losses and move on!
Fehoko yes hes on the big bubble but Tolbert will get at least 1more season if not next year as well.. some players need time to develop; austin, ced Wilson, Brown and others took into their 3rd season to show up... we are talking 4-6 spots here, no rush IMHO

last year was a huge step backwards. A trade would also let us get out of the 19 million we still owe him guaranteed. The team wont do it but I would. Hopefully your right but I'll go on record saying I think his best days are behind him (and hes only 26)

I hear you, only thing I'm saying is not to move on too quickly. It's not like we are hurting for talent at Wideout. Who knows we could have another Butch Johnson or Golden Richards laying in wait

Bring em along slowly, what's the rush
