The 4th TE is less a battle with a WR than it is with a RB.

It's more like McKeown and Luepke competing for a spot than it is McKeown and Fehoko or whoever.
Luepke makes the team. He can play FB, TE, RB.

I think Cropper makes the team too.

The more I look at, the more that I think that Turpin may be on the outside looking in. I really don't think they keep more than 5 receivers. If he makes the team, it will be because they are comfortable using a roster spot on a return specialist.

Turpin is a receiver in the same way that CJ Goodwin is a cornerback. It is in name only, and everyone knows that they are just designated special teams aces.

He gives you nothing as a receiver and while his impact in the return game is above average, it was far from can't miss. I'll be interested to see how this pans out.
I'm all for Turpin being a Special Teams ace as long as he produces. As of now , He producing

People are way too high on UDFAs

The question for Luepke is if he's a better blocker than Mckeown, basically. Cropper has to prove he can play ST.

Better chance that neither make it than both.

They almost always have at least 6 WRs on the 53. Last year they started with 7 plus Gallup on PUP.
Thing is I don't want another season with the wideout situation we had last year. I know this is dangerous territory but, If we want QB1 to take the next step, he's going to need the best WR room we can give him.

Please don't jack the thread.

I would really feel comfortable With

Lamb
Cooks
Gallup
Tolbert
Fehoko
Turpin

What say you ?????
First three players are penciled in.

Next three players listed will have to compete against the other WRs in camp - no matter what their experience level was in college, nor time as a PS \ ST member the last couple of seasons.

KT is ST ace B/U WR, doubt they count him as a WR when roster spots are counted... so add one more IMHO...Fehoko spot might be in jeopardy if a younger WR steps up in camp and PS.
Yeah he's definitely on the bubble (Fehoko) I just hope he gets alot of reps in Pre Season. That way we will know what we have/ or don't have

Yes mos definitely, and may the best man win. I just want t o see if those two can pan out due to them already being in house. If a youngster beats them out so be it.

MAN I can't wait for TC

I think it may only be 5, and the battle is between Fehoko and Tolbert unless one of the unisted guys just blows everyone away in the preseason.
That's what I'm worried about . I mean keeping it real, our first three spots are a dynamic group. I've just always been a member of the can't have too many riches bunch !!!!

If Deuce picks up returning both punts and kickoffs and shows he can do them well, Turpin might be the odd man out since Turpin did absolutely nothing in the passing game. Deuce is a proven legit weapon in the passing game.

The WR who might take over Turpin's WR spot might be newly signed Tyron Johnson. He can legitimately take the deep top end off of opposing Defenses, something Turpin never did last season (what a waste).

I don't see Turpin as a waste, He definitely was a shot in the Keister in the return game

With training camp starts usually beginning around the third week in July --- the League should be putting out the schedules for each team any day now.

Re: Turpin, I wonder how many times it has happened that a Pro Bowl player under contract gets cut before the next season.

6 WR minimum is a must in today's passing oriented NFL. A team often lines up 3 or 4, and injuries happen.

I think Turpin gets cut. He'll never be much more than a return specialist. Better to keep a developmental prospect like Moreno-Cropper.

Luepke probably gives you a lot more plays than the fourth TE does. Better to go long at RB or OL than keep a 4th TE.

That's what happens when you get rushed back from an ACL and you aren't ready yet.
yeah-again this is me, I dont think the team will attempt to trade him.
with 19mm still owed in guarantees I dont think he'll live up to the contract. If we were that high on him dont think the team would have been so focused on a WR this offseason. Tired of waiting for him to breakout and dont think it'll happen.
hopefully I'm wrong-we'll see

They have indicated that Tolbert is moving in the right direction to make the team.
Yup we got the two New guys, Fehoko and Tolbert Vying for hopefully two spots, I've already voiced my support for Turpin as a ST ace.

Of course my whole theory goes to Shiznitsville Should one or more of the New guys blows up, At which time I will gladly say I'm full of it !!!!!!

Turpin was the MVP of the USFL, two weeks before joining the Cowboys.

He was a Pro Bowl returner in the NFL.

Hes most likely the fastest player on our team and top 10 fastest guys in the league.

So far in these mini camps, hes getting extended looks at WR.

He has more experience and accomplishments than ANY UDFA or rookie.

He will not be cut. Period.

He will be our returner, gadget guy and 6th WR.

He was a stud in the USFL, but didn't do much in the NFL. I was shocked he made the pro bowl. If one looks at the rankings of KO returners and punt returners, one will find that he actually ranked quite poorly. Google it, you'll be surprised how low he ranks.

He made some absolutely horrible decisions with regards to returns. He put the team in a hole too often. And now he says he is going to return "everything". Dumb.

With the new return rules in the NFL, his limited value as a returner will be diminished even more.

That last WR spot needs to be used for a developmental guy that has the potential to become something. Putting Turpin in once a game to run a sweep/reverse that everyone knows is coming doesn't add much value. Turpin is not a bad returner, but offers little else. That roster spot can be put to better use elsewhere. My bold prediction is Turpin is toast! We'll see.
