We may see more Grier over Milton this Preseason

I think Milton gets most of the snaps Saturday. Grier maybe the 4th quarter. If Milton shows improvement this next game, then maybe see Grier more in the last game.

  • Trade pick for QB when stench of Lance trade still permeates the building
  • QB is so not ready for prime time (same diagnosis made at virtually every stop of the way in his career) that he doesn't even meet the criteria to allow the coaches to evaluate the receivers
  • GM seems to be giddy over this whole situation
What are we evenn doing here? It's like baseball bringing in a pitcher and they can't even put him on the mound during practice to even see if the catcher can perform because he keeps firing balls into the dirt or into the third row of the stands.

Note to Jerry: A jugs machine costs less than a roster spot QB. It also doesn't ask for a new contract after 3 years.

The Cowboys Break podcast brought up a good point by saying the Cowboys may need to play Grier more in Preseason in order to get a better evaluation of WR's.
Milton is very erratic and inaccurate and his playing style doesn't allow the team to get a good evaluation of the WR's.
Grier is more consistent and steady which will allow him to distribute the ball more efficiently and give the WR's a chance to show how they are at running the routes and catching the ball on a more consistent basis.
It's also not a lock that Milton will be QB 2 due to his inconsistencies.
Once again the Cowboys are putting all their eggs in the wrong basket. What has Milton done to be handed the No.2 QB spot on a team that has a starting QB who can't seem to stay healthy and has regressed to the point that the No.2 QB is one play away from being handed the keys to an NFL team?????????? The No.2 QB spot should go to a player that is riding the No.1 QB's butt and that's not Milton. I wasn't a big fan of Trey Lance, but since San Diego's first preseason game, he looks to be a heck of a lot better than Milton...........

I sure hope so. Grier needs significant reps as well.

Another note on the Jugs machine idea - Jerry can lease it or at least depreciate the value of the equipment on his taxes. I don't think he's tried that strategy with a player. Yet.

May not be a good sign that you can't judge your receivers properly with the guy you traded for to be your backup QB. Just saying.

Making Grier QB 2 is dumb.
That dude who you posted saying Milton was having a 'super star' camp is the one who you should be calling dumb! And what does that say about the person who reposted his dribble?

And since I haven't bothered to interact with you since you were going around posting that no receiver would ever put up big numbers w Dak ... Ironic that a Dak receiver broke the franchise receiving record and not the overrated receiver in your avi who you claim that Dak was the reason for the demise of his career, even though there are 31 other teams in the National Football League

An aside -- I knew Milton was done when I caught some snippets of Babe Laughenberg gushing over Milton's arm strength. Babe is one of the biggest idiots that I've ever come across.

I have to believe that Milton is going to get every opportunity to win the QB2 job. I'm sure the Cowboys would much rather see Milton win the job and expose Grier to the PS. If you make Grier the favorite for QB2 and give him a ton of preseason reps then you're now forced to either keep 3 QBs on the 53 man or expose Milton to waivers. I doubt Jerry wants to lose his new toy QB after just trading for him. I also doubt they want to use 3 roster spots on QBs when you they have the depth/need to go long at several other positions (RB,WR,TE,OL,DL,CB)

Cowboys are experts at wasting draft capital.Just reference the 2023 draft for evidence and of course the Lance trade and we could list more
The lance trade is way down the list of "wasting" draft capital. How many more #2 TEs or #1 DTs (or whatever Taco was).

And even when we score a good one...it's STILL a waste.

(yes...I'm grumbling now! )

It was just an exaggeration. He wasn't playin that well before the injury, and he hasn't played for how long? I'm supposed to be worried about the backups?
Not sure how that got lost in translation. A tad bit of obvious hyperbole can be an effective writing tool. But...some people...

I'm all for it. Milton isnt the answer.

They need Grier to drive the bus.

Another Jerry QB trade bust...

Making Grier QB 2 is dumb.
It's less about making Grier QB 2 and more about getting an accurate look at the receivers.

Can't find out much about the wideouts with Milton screaming 100 mph fastballs ten yards past them.

If the Cowboys feel Milton is very erratic and inaccurate and his playing style doesn’t allow the team to get a good evaluation of the WRs then he won’t be the backup this season. We won’t get the most out of CeeDee or Pickens if Milton is forced into action during the regular season. If Milton starts off against Baltimore like he did last week and it’s the same up-and-down play, I think they need to pull him and put Grier in so we can get a better evaluation of our WRs. If that were to happen then Grier will be the backup this season unless he stinks it up and Milton will look like another wasted trade. The Cowboys traded for Milton to be the backup.
I know it was only preseason( last year or the year before?)but Will Grier did well with Dak calling the plays if I recall right. I like Milton as a project. He doesn't seem to have touch or accuracy. Will Grier may not have all the tools but I think at this point he is better than Milton and should get more work.

It was preseason 2023 when Grier played the entire final preseason game and lit it up. Milton definitely looks like a project and we’re seeing why he was a sixth round pick, despite his rocket arm and athleticism.
