We may see more Grier over Milton this Preseason

Our QB room is just bad. Jerry doesn't take backup seriously. Milton could throw 20 INTs and he's talking about pinching himself. It is nothing short of a miracle we have ever been even competitive over the last three decades with this football idiot in charge.

I know it was only preseason( last year or the year before?)but Will Grier did well with Dak calling the plays if I recall right. I like Milton as a project. He doesn't seem to have touch or accuracy. Will Grier may not have all the tools but I think at this point he is better than Milton and should get more work.
Couldn't have said it better. Milton is the better talent, but right now Grier is the better quarterback.

Sounds like Cowboys Break podcast was looking for an angle to get some engagement.

Schottenheimer has said repeatedly that he knows what he’s got with Grier but needs to see a lot more of Milton before he can determine how they proceed at QB.

The Cowboys Break podcast brought up a good point by saying the Cowboys may need to play Grier more in Preseason in order to get a better evaluation of WR's.
Milton is very erratic and inaccurate and his playing style doesn't allow the team to get a good evaluation of the WR's.
Grier is more consistent and steady which will allow him to distribute the ball more efficiently and give the WR's a chance to show how they are at running the routes and catching the ball on a more consistent basis.
It's also not a lock that Milton will be QB 2 due to his inconsistencies.
If the Cowboys truly believe that Milton will eventually be the franchise quarterback, it only makes sense that Milton play as much as possible with ALL of the receivers during game situations so that they can become accustomed to him.
Evaluating the receivers with a quarterback that the Cowboys don't intend to use is useless.

The Cleveland Browns have six quarterbacks all better than Milton. A few are sure to be cut. Jerry can just sign one.

If Jimmy's last name was Smith we wouldn't have been. They were assigned rooms alphabetically in college on road trips and that bonded the two of them.

Literally the only thing he's ever done to help the team was hire his college roommate and let him build the team while he tried to turn around the financial side of the franchise at the time. That's it. It’s been 3 decades of destruction ever since.

If the the 3rd QB is on the PS, he can only be brought up to the 53 three times?

Cowboys are experts at wasting draft capital.Just reference the 2023 draft for evidence and of course the Lance trade and we could list more
It was a fifth round pick. Calm down

They also returned a 6th

It's less about making Grier QB 2 and more about getting an accurate look at the receivers.

Can't find out much about the wideouts with Milton screaming 100 mph fastballs ten yards past them.
Yes, indeed. This too.

If Milton is a developmental QB3 shouldn't the Cowboys search for a better QB2?

Guys like Kenny Pickett, Tyler Huntley, Dorian Thompson-Robinson may be better QB2 options, and Kyle McCord (R) could be a developmental QB also.

Earlier this week, Schottenheimer said that ideally those are the same player and that he needs to see more of Milton before he can determine if he can be both.

He said he is already so familiar with Grier that he doesn’t need to see a lot of reps from him in preseason to know what he can do.

So, is that an indication Schotty is comfortable with Grier as QB2 if Milton isn't ready for it?

I would imagine so. More likely though, I bet you see them keep both.

If you put Milton on the practice squad, he’d likely get claimed. Grier, not so much

Grier is clearly our QB2 at this point. As such, he'd better get the majority of snaps in the preseason games.
First thing that’s stood out from Grier was pocket awareness. You can’t teach that.

Trying to force Milton in preseason games is dragging rest of team down….dude struggles with basics, so the rest of the offense has to come down to his level to spoon feed him basics, the rest can’t get to where the need to go or should go. Need a legit “QB” in there cuz the rest of the players need someone more capable too, to maximize their preseason work. Weakest link……
