We need a TE on Sunday

With the way this preseason was ran, I will withhold judgement until I see them in a real offense. It looks bleak right now but it might get better.

We probably had 3 TEs in the top 50 or so players at their position in terms of receiving yards in the preseason. Not that that's a measure of anything, though. But they weren't non-productive in PS. Except for the relatively weak blocking.

I am disappointed in Schultz's blocking, it is supposed to be his strength. It wasn't horrid or anything but some missed assignments and such.

They were productive because our QB's kept dumping it off to them, safety valves. I want to see them in a real game with Zeke, Dak and the OLine. I think they will be sufficient when it comes to it but nothing special.

That's what I think, too. They'll be an afterthought in the passing game when teams have to worry about Elliott up front and the speedier WRs downfield. It looks like we're going to run more picks, I mean, rub routes with the shifty slot WRs. The TEs will be safety valves, but they'll keep the chains moving if they Jarwin doesn't fumble it.

I also think Dak likes Jarwin like he likes Lenoir, and we're just not seeing a lot of it because they're not running the two TE sets early in the games when Dak's playing.

I do worry about the blocking in the 2 TE sets a bit, though. I agree on Schultz. He's been pretty disappointing. Maybe it's just a matter of things slowing down and him getting stronger, but it's tough to justify two developmental TEs on the roster. And Rico's got huge issues blocking, but he sure looks like a weapon in the red zone and a guy who could develop into an impact player if he could just figure it out. I don't normally like players who don't get it, but in his case it's hard to tell if its inexperience or a lack of focus on what's important. I lean towards lack of focus--mostly because Witten seemed to sleight Rico in favor of Jarwin, and that means to me that Rico wasn't working hard enough off the field. But, man, he does look like he could be a real player someday when he's catching the ball.

I like Rico & Lenoir. They try very hard to make plays. They can work on the other stuff. These Coaches can critique all they want, but they need to coach these players BETTER.
The back-up QBs: Kellen Moore is killing them before they step out on the field. Jason Garrett should take ownership of this team & especially the QBs and look at McVay with the Rams (called Mozart with a clipboard). Jason Garrett is the #1 person in this organization who needs to step and DO HIS JOB as HC.

The Boys also need to trade for Thomas (sick of the media drama), OL & back-up QB immediately. Chase Daniels in Chicago is very good.

No aggressive GM action here means immediate death for this team. Sick of the constant Randy Gregory turmoil. Play him or kick him out.

Seems like the Coaches are mad because Witten is gone and are angry at this TE group because they are not Witten. Rico is the best of the group. The others are non-existent and have no impact when out there.

We are scary awful at that position right now. It's a huge role in this offense.

lol, you don't think 3-4 TE's can replace 600 yards of production? That's like 200 yards/TE. Heck if I weighed 50 more pounds, give me a contract, I'll give it a go. I'm holding out for a long term contract and at least 6 mill per tho

I don’t have an agenda and I’m mot infatuated with Rico like you are. I believe he’s not as good as some think he is just because of his size and because he caught a few balls against third stringers. I trust the coaches who see him practice everyday more than I do a bunch of arm chair coaches here.

So how does releasing him improve the TE position then? The logic doesn't follow if all 3 are "awful" and Rico is 3rd on the depth chart anyway. It's a stupid comment regardless of how one feels about the player.

The reality is that we have a #2 and a #3 TE. We don’t have a true #1. But I suspect there are a dozen other teams in the same situation.

We mistakenly thought that the team knew this as well and would have tried to upgrade.

Especially in an offseason dubbed the offseason of helping Dak.

Swaim seems like a solid TE2 for the scheme we run. The question is whether Jarwin can be a pass catching TE1 at this level. We really haven’t seen what that looks like with him running with the 1st team yet but I understand why there are so many doubters. I’m doubtful that anything hits waivers that will be a clear upgrade from what we’ve got so I feel like this is probably going to be the group for better or worse.

It was a sarcastic comment that went right over your head. Lol, it’s funny how personal you take anything someone says if it can even be perceived as the slightest bit negative about Rico. Is that you Rico

It’s like when you hear a song for the first time and think it’s awesome. You hear it a few more times and still like it. Then every time you turn on the radio you hear the same song over and over again until eventually you don’t like the song and may even hate it. That’s where I’m at with Rico. All the TE’s suck and he hasn’t done anything to distinguish himself other than catch a few balls against scrubs. You could put their names in hat and cut whichever one you pick and I wouldn’t care but if I’m so sick of hearing about Rico Rico Rico I’d oike to see him first on the chopping block (along with the other reasons I mentioned, trusting the coaches more than the people here).

I'm curious as to what you expected to see from them with Rush and White throwing to them, and which of them you saw dropping a lot of passes?

I don't expect them to be outstanding, but I think you are judging harshly based on very little evidence

Going to be a 3 man rotation, I expect Schultz or Jarwin to become the #1 though, Swaim probably brings the least to the table and is better suited to be the Dan Campbell TE who mostly blocks.

The others are making mistakes against better players so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt but I’m not overly impressed with any of them.
