As you can see below, several teams have extra 3rd round picks ( Cards have three ). We have a bunch of holes to fill and not enough capital. Would you trade our 2025 2nd round pick for one of the Card's top 2024 3rd rounder ( 66 or 71 ). We don't have a 4th rounder and this would certainly give us a chance to draft another starter. We would have 4 picks in the top 100. I know giving the next 2nd rounder is pretty serious but look at like filling a starting position a year early.

I guess the bottom line is we are putting the 2025 2nd pick up for sale in exchange for a high 2024 3rd-round pick. We need capital and we need it now.......

Round 3

65) Carolina Panthers
66) Arizona Cardinals
67) Washington Commanders
68) New England Patriots
69) Los Angeles Chargers
70) New York Giants

72) New York Jets
73) Detroit Lions (from Minnesota)
74) Atlanta Falcons

90) Arizona Cardinals (from Houston)
91) Green Bay Packers (from Buffalo)

Trade down from #24 into the early 2nd while picking up an extra 3rd rounder. Commanders need a starting Left Tackle. Dan Quinn owes us big time. Trade #24 for their #40 pick (2nd round) and their #78th pick (3rd round). Also, trade Trey Lance to Vikings for their #108th pick (4th round).

This would give the Cowboys:

2024 Draft Picks
1st round: 0
2nd round: 2
3rd round: 2
4th round: 1
5th round: 1
6th round: 1
7th round: 2

Trading a 2nd next year for a 3rd this year is terrible value.

Also you have to keep in mind when talking about trading is this is a very weak 3rd day. Probably comparable to 2009. Id rather stack picks in 2024 than add days 3's this year. People get too caught up in wanting more picks now. Especially when there is a odds those picks become quality players is significantly lessened

I don't see it this way but OK.......

BTW....who says trading for 3rd day picks? It would give us four picks in the top 100. ( 1 first day and 3 second day picks ). Again, we need extra capital now if we trying to win this season. To be honest, I don't care how we get the extra 3rd ( maybe trade down 24 a bit ) coz we don't pick again until 5th round. Unlikely to fine a potential starter there vs that extra 3rd round pick.

I love you and anyone else on these forums that are talking about trading down. Trading next years picks the only picks I can see us trading are the comp picks we think we'll be getting. If we plan on having one based on the formula for a 5th rounder next year, we trade that this year for a player or to maybe move up in the draft to nab someone.

MY FIRST thought is to get a pick for that 4th rounder we're missing, some say we can get a 3rd, I don't care either way get something. It would be great however to have several in the top 100, that would be amazing!!!

Bro you know I love ya, but this right here, I'm thinking about moving in with ya!!! Lol this is great, I have no problem trading into the 2nd round either, get what we can!!!! I think going back that far has to net us more than an extra second round pick, maybe a 5th or something, what about a first for next year?

Brother, Jerry needs to swallow his pride, admit he messed up, trade down and make a trade to get some extra draft picks to try to fix so many holes left on this team. If not, it's going to be a long season.

I don’t like the idea of trading a future 2nd for a current 3rd. Mostly because of historical draft success rates by round. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but someone did a research project on success rate of draft picks by round… I think 2nd contract info was used to determine success… something like that. Only about 50% of 1st round picks were deemed a “success”. It dropped to around 40% in the 2nd, and mid 20% range by the 3rd. Down from there. I know there is an unwritten rule that future picks are round value -1, but I don’t like it at higher rounds.
I’m not opposed to adding picks, just not at that price. Just my opinion.

Why would you want to trade a more valuable pick for a less valuable one. The hit rate on 3rd round picks is significantly lower than 2nds. Plus we are mostly going to have a new coach and possibly need to find a new QB next year. We need a 2nd round pick in 2025 way more than we need an extra 3rd this year. Trading future picks for current is knee jerk and verg poor team building.

My point is we need another 3rd rounder or at a min, that 4th rounder back. After our 3rd rounder this year, we don't pick again until the 5th round and for a team that needs to replace 4-5 starters and refuses to add any free agents, that's not good.
