Let's also bear in mind that Jerry, like many egotistical personalities, will always need a scapegoat for his and his son's inadequacies.

True . I will say this in defense of a Will McClay who I think should be the GM it’s not a bad roster . Thing is guys like McVay in LA coach Bill in NE Tomlin in Pitt those guys are running the team . Once you step out in the field they are in charge . In Dallas everyone seems to think Jerry is judge jury and executioner and it undermines the HC .

The thing is, we can't wait and see for too long.

I say this is a make or break year for McCarthy.

He needs to at least get past the first round of the playoffs, or he's out.

I see him having a lot of fun out there, and that's good to see.

I think the biggest thing McCarthy can do to help himself is stay focused and have fun.

It's a freaking game, after all.

I see what you're saying, but it was closer to a playoff team than a full rebuild.

They were still touting Jaylon Smith as a great LB and I think Trysten hill was the lone DT heading into the offseason. A playoff caliber offense, I’ll give you that but the defense and special teams sucked.

Exactly, and Garrett never really understood this.

Mike's coaching is fine for the most part.

It is Stephen & Jerry and whomever is making the personnel decisions that is going to screw us.
This. McCarthy got killed with all the injuries year 1 and this year FO is killing him by leaving 20 million untouched with so many holes on the team (swing Tackle, WR, kicker)

Id even argue even though I don’t know why Dak won’t admit it that the calf injury killed the team last year.

The first half of last year is what McCarthy can do when he has a viable NFL team and a healthy QB1. I’d argue no team in the league aside from Philly getting lucky a few years ago can win when QB1 isn’t fully healthy.

Exactly, and that's part of my point. Jerry would make moves like the Coop trade to save Garrett's job. Why won't he take some chances now that we can all see we have a team begging for a few upgrades to make it a SB contender? If he really understands that he doesn't have much time left and wants one more Lombardi, then he needs to make a few trades, and tell Stephen to stuff it and sign some FAs, then maybe, just maybe, Mike can coach this team to a Lombardi.

Jerry turns 80 this October.

Big Mike doesn’t have a lot of time to fool around.

the Nolan hire hurt.

Philbin and Rob Davis ( ACH ) might leave with him.

Btw, does anyone know what our assistant head coach does?

OP that's great and all, but when it really mattered this team had a home playoff game against an inferior team SF and crapped the bed!

We've been waiting 27 years, we don't have time to waste on Mojo moments.

And I haven't even seen a championship since becoming a fan. I know that feeling. I'm just pointing out the improvement that was made. This idea that a coach has to win us a SB within 2 years is ridiculous. The only of our coaches that managed to win a SB within his first 2 seasons as a HC was Barry Switzer, and that was mainly with Jimmy's roster. I don't think we are getting Belichick or McVay any time soon. Payton didn't win one within 2 years. Thus, my point remains. Its why I usually give a coach 3 years of patience, unless the record stays the same or worse as in the case of Garrett.
