We need to defend Nelson/Cobb like we did Calvin/Tate

In no way am I writing off the Lions, but, their offense isn't close to what the Packers is IMO. Dallas plays like it did for the first half and some of the second half? Packers will make them pay.
If the Cowboys play in the first half like they did against the Lions, it will be because the Packers defense is dominating them like the Lions did. If that happens, yeah, we'll lose. A team with the Packers offense and the Lions defense would beat just about everyone.

But that's unlikely to happen here, because the Packers defense isn't as good as the Lions defense.

Marinelli should implement the same gameplan he used vs. Detroit. Have Carr be physical with Nelson at the line and have safety help over the top. Then have Scandrick shadow Cobb.

Nelson and Cobb ARE the Packers passing game. They had 98 and 91 receptions respectively, and the next closest Packer receiver was Davante Adams with 38.

Sleep on Jordy Nelson all you want, but he's every bit as dangerous as Calvin with Rodgers as his QB. I don't like leaving any of our CB's on an island with him, especially since he was 2nd in the league in 40+ yard receptions. He's a big play WR.

Cobb is the best slot receiver in the league. Scandrick needs to have the game of his life.

Good observation. Our secondary did an excellent job containing both Tate and Megatron, the Tate touchdown on the opening job notwithstanding.

They'll have to come up big to take away Cobb and Nelson. But I'm more hopeful they can based on their play against Detroit.

I have to agree with you. Its not that the Packers are unbeatable. (no one is). I believe a win in Green Bay will need to be one of those 45-42 type of games where we got the ball last.
I see us playing this game with a very "bend and don't break" game plan. I don't believe we will be able to bully them with our defense. Rodgers is just too good at all aspects of the game to let that happen. We will be on our heels defensively. Pressing the receivers and trying to get after Rodgers can be a costly strategy.

That being said I think we have what it takes to keep there defense scrambling for answers also. Let's just hope that we don't play the way we just did against the Lions. You can't miss FG's, get the ball gifted on the 20 yard line and go 3 and out against this team ect......

I'm very excited that we are even able to have this conversation this year. We seem to be a long way from the feeling we had after thanksgiving.

Yep. This is a game where both teams are going to play technically good or great football offensively. Almost can guarantee that. The differences in the quality of personnel between the rosters are razor thin, but I think this GB team is just a little better than the Cowboys right now. Not enough better, though, that they can overcome mistakes. This is another one that's going to be a great game, and I bet it comes down to whoever has the ball last with time-enough to score.

But then, you never know. There are games like the Colts game here recently where things don't turn out anything like you expect them to, and this Cowboys roster keeps finding ways to surprise me. I'm encountering more fans of other teams--some of them in the NFCN--than I'd have suspected who think we're going to go into GB and just take the game from the Packers this weekend. Man, that'd be fun to see if it happens.

One of the things I think the Cowboys should expect from GB is them having Cobb come out of the backfield.

I don't think the Packers like to do it much because they worry about Cobb playing RB (he isn't a big guy), however, they do tend to uncork it for "big" games. The NE game is a great example where the Packers totally surprised the Patriots by continuously running Cobb on long wheel routes out of the backfield with LBers hopelessly attempting to keep up with him.

Again, the best way to stop this is somehow stop Lacy with 6 guys sou can can play nickel and put a DB on Cobb out the backfield instead of a LB.

Now, if we can only convince the Packers to put Stafford at quarterback rather than Rodgers.

When this happens, you have to have Scandrick spy Cobb. When he is in the backfield, have Scandrick play more or less as a LB across from Cobb. Then follow him around. Keep Carr with Nelson with safety help. Assuming McCLain plays, have him key Lacy. Hopefully Moore can handle Adams.

But most important: rush the passer big time. Preferably with 4 guys. We need to be in Rodgers face all day. Hopefully, he will be immobile enough where he doesn't kill us running with the ball.

It's going to be very tough. Everybody on defense will have to be at their best this Sunday.

What would he bring that we are lacking?

The game is about utilizing all your player's strengths. As much maligned as Claiborne is he is actually a decent cover corner judging by my eye test and it would valuable to have as many cover corners as you can in this matchup.

I'm not willing to make that assumption, and neither should the Dallas D.

I agree the Cowboys should assume he's going to be healthy, but in reality, from what I am reading so far up here, he's not going to be 100% with the calf come game time. Cold weather won't help either.

Cowboys need to run well to ice the clock and score TDs when in the red zone. Get to the 4th quarter either tied or ahead, then the running game takes over and tightens the screws on GB.

I tend to agree, though Cobb is a much better receiver than Tate. The biggest problems will come if Rodgers is able to get out of the pocket and make plays.

Cobb is not a better slot WR than Tate
He just has a better QB throwing him the ball

I'm not willing to make that assumption, and neither should the Dallas D.

I think they are going to minimize his movement.

even if his calf feels good, a cold weather game is not a good spot for someone getting over that kind of injury. If the packers push him, they may regret it

I wouldn't be so quick to write off what the Lions did to us this weekend. That game was about as tough a game as we're likely to see in the playoffs, I think. That defense was straight-up great, and they had our excellent offense on it's heels the whole game. Caldwell had them ready to play, and had it not been for his gaffe in not going for it on 4th down, they might well have beat us. Honestly, if we get by GB, this last game was very similar to what I'd expect from a game in SEA, and harder than what we'd likely get if we had to play CAR at home.

Now, I think GB is a better team than the Lions were. It remains to be seen how they'll matchup with us and whether they'll be as ready to play as DET was. I guess I'm just saying that I don't think it was the case that we weren't ready to go last week. I think we were taken out of our own plan because they out executed us early, and we got back in because we're better at sustaining the level of focus required than they were for four quarters and because we had the better QB play, overall.

Detroit was absolutely the worst match up for us of anyone in the playoffs. NFC or AFC.

Green Bay is a better team but easier match-up. We'll be better equipped to play the brand of football we prefer against them.

We just can't waste possessions.

Unlike Detroit and Dallas, you can't take Jordy Nelson out of the game. GB finds a way to get him the ball, whether he's alone outside or in the middle of a bunch set or in motion. And he's just as dangerous on a short slant as on a deep post. The key is a little pressure on the QB and good tackling in the secondary.

No one ever really doubles him either

I mean yeah, I'd like everyone to be healthy. But I dont particularly miss MoC. He's a bust and if we are missing guys on the IR, hell I miss Sean Lee. We could use him in a bad way for this game. hopefully we get free back

I think it's important to realize that these guys are going to get some yards. Recognizing that and making sure they don't give up the big plays and yet still be aggressive and go for turnovers will be very key here. It's important that Spencer, Mincey, and Lawrence have their best game of the season and get pressure on him. Forcing a turnover will be a huge factor in winning this game.

I'd watch the 2011 game where Carr and Flowers shut down their guys. IIRC, it was physical man coverage.

GB at KC

While we are going back and figuring out what works, I would watch the second half of the Packer Cowboy game last year where noodle arm Matt Flynn played like Aaron Rodgers. ;) That would have as much influence on this game as the KC game had a few years ago.
