Brees should take at least two weeks off to make sure his shoulder is OK.
He's not ranked there because no one has seen him start since Arizona. He's there because people have seen him start NFL games in the past.
Make no mistake, Weeden was a terrible QB when he started in 2012-13. Football Outsiders has him 36th in the league in '12 and 42nd (dead last) in '13. Yes, it was Cleveland, but there's no reason (other than hope) to expect him to be anything but one of the worst QBs in the NFL. Doesn't mean we can't win with him, but I sure don't expect it to be easy.
Agreed he has not played well in this league.
I must admit I an torn about what we will see on Sunday and my high(ceiling) bar is to play well enough not to lose the games (turnovers) and to make a few plays to help us win.
On hopeful side - He played in Cleveland with a awful team around him, different O every year he has been in the league until this year, he now knows the O (2 years in it) and will not be asked to do too much by Linehan and has been educated not to force balls (check down).
On Negative side - Makes bad decisions under pressure, does not read the whole field well, has tenancy to throw a lot of bad balls (int's) poor pocket presence.
Should be interesting to watch, just hope it is not my heart on the positive side and my head on the negative side.
I want to be wrong about this one.
I would imagine Cassel carries more league-wide and media respect. I'd guess he would have come in around 25-27. Weeden is probably better than most of the guys at the bottom though. I'd personally rank him at 28 as of now.
Rosenthal is a supposed fantasy guru. Take that for what it is worth.
Weeden has the highest QB Passer Rating in the NFL at 149.7. We can't lose!

The same Gregg Rosenthal who predicted the Cowboys would miss the playoffs last year after a 6–2 start?
Seldom am I critical of the sports media. I am not one to throw around words like mediot. In the vast majority of cases, they are just doing their job. However, in the case of Rosenthal, he is a total hater
27. Tyrod Taylor (1-1)
28. Derek Carr (1-1)
29. Jameis Winston (1-1)
30. Johnny Manziel/Josh McCown (1-1)
31. Ryan Mallett (0-1)
32. Brandon Weeden
You need a great quarterback to win a Super Bowl and I'm not looking forward to playing the Pats and Seahawks without Tony and Dez but at the same time I'm also not giving up hope of us being 5-4 or even 6-3 when Tony is back.
I've heard that Jerry had a device implanted in Weeden's brain to allow him to be controlled with a video game controller.
Romo will get operate the controller.
Great quarterback? Seattle won a Super Bowl with Russell Wilson. He isn't a great quarterback. He's good, but if you think he's great I have to wonder what you're definition of great is. Trent Dilfer was probably the worst starting QB of all time that played on a Super Bowl team and they won without him. Eli Manning won two Super Bowls and he's been inconsistent his entire career.
