We seem to be accumulating enough talent that we could make a serious run next year .... so who do we lose after this year in free agency, or hit the road due to salary cap issues?

Murray would be a big loss, but could potentially be replaced with a premium pick. Free could become expendable if we draft a right tackle, but we don't get three first round picks. so we can't draft a right tackle, a pass rusher and Murray's replacement all in the first and second rounds. I wish we had extended Murray to a cap friendly deal prior to this season. I think he is going to have a big year and we will have to let him walk or overpay.

We lose Murray unless by some miracle he accepts a low ball offer.

I think Dez is signed long term, Free is let go and Murray is franchised. We could draft a guard in the 2nd or 3rd (like they would have done this year with Trai Turner) and move Martin to RT.

Biggest salary cap question for next year I think, will be Carr.

I'm not sure the team is close to making a serious run.

There's still at least one big hole at DT and the team needs another WDE... And we know the problems at safety.

Who are they going to lose? I think Carr is a prime candidate to be cut in the offseason.

Murray and Free could leave as free agents.

And who knows where Romo's back is going to be. This team may have to draft a QB early and ride their inconsistency for a couple seasons.

Let's see if murray can stay healthy for 16 games, hopefully more this year.

But we must sign Dez, and if Ro. McClain continues to play like he has, can only get better, we need sign him, then sign Murray.
Not sure anyone elses contracts coming up that would be that big of a loss.
Maybe Carter, but he must show something all year too.

RB: Franchise cost in 2013: $8.079

No friggin way would I franchise Murray... no way... no how.

His running style leads to downtime due to injuries, and decent backs are dime a dozen.

Carr will be gone unless he has an excellent season. There's always a possibility they could restructure his contract which they've already done once but he's going to have to play a lot better than he did last season for the Cowboys to continue to stay with him. Claiborne could also be gone but the Cowboys are likely to let him play out his contract.

I think when we failed to extend Murray we almost guaranteed that we let him walk or overpay him. When I say overpay, I do not mean that he is not worth the money, I mean allocate too many cap dollars to the position. It would have been a better idea to extend him at a cap friendly deal.

This is one of the reasons I wanted Ryan Williams on the active roster, to see what he can do. If he looks good, and if Murray walks, we still draft a RB at some point, but have Williams too.
Randle is not the guy to take over for Murray. Even though I think the staff was hoping he would have been.

Dooms the guy has yet to play a full 16-game slate.

Chris Johnson signed a 2 year/$8.0 mil contract with the Jets.

Murray isn't worth more than that.

I am not going to say exactly what Murray is worth, but I think most reasonable people would place a higher value on Murray on today's date than Johnson. This isn't Chris Johnson 2K.

Probably he hasn't played up to his contract and will be due a lot of money. Cortland Finnegan was rated higher than Carr coming out in free agency a few years ago and was released by the Rams due not being worth the money.

But you can't put Murray's future value on what he's doing today either.

With his running style (which has proved problematic so far in his career) would you expect he's going to be the same runner 3 years from now?

It wasn't that long ago in Dallas a guy with a similar running style as Murray's was given a big, big contract and promptly flamed out.

We beat Jake Locker. We are still not at the point to be spending real cap dollars in free agency similar to what Seattle (who has a cheap QB contract) or Denver did.

I don't think Murray's running style has anything to do with his injuries. He doesn't have the seek and destroy running style Barber had Murray is much more elusive. One issue that really concerns me with Murray is his inability to play effectively when he gets dinged. Due to his cutback running style any leg injury really hampers his performance.

He can't seem to perform well at all with a knee, ankle or toe problem. Any leg injury limits his ability to cut and make defenders miss. Some backs like Emmitt could play well when not 100% but Murray has to be just right or he's not effective.

I'm not sure but didn't Melton basically sign a one-year contract. Doesn't his contract balloon next year? So, minus a restructure or some change, he might be gone. I don't remember for sure. Also, did Rolando McClain sign just a one year contract?
