We seem to be accumulating talent, so who do we lose next year?

I don't think Murray's running style has anything to do with his injuries. He doesn't have the seek and destroy running style Barber had Murray is much more elusive. One issue that really concerns me with Murray is his inability to play effectively when he gets dinged. Due to his cutback running style any leg injury really hampers his performance.

He can't seem to perform well at all with a knee, ankle or toe problem. Any leg injury limits his ability to cut and make defenders miss. Some backs like Emmitt could play well when not 100% but Murray has to be just right or he's not effective.

Good point.

But you can't put Murray's future value on what he's doing today either.

With his running style (which has proved problematic so far in his career) would you expect he's going to be the same runner 3 years from now?

It wasn't that long ago in Dallas a guy with a similar running style as Murray's was given a big, big contract and promptly flamed out.

I personally don't think his running style is the issue. I know that theory has been advanced by several people, but I do not really believe it has any merit. That is just my opinion, obviously.

If you are referring to Barber, I do not really see any similarity in the two players. Murray can punish you, but quite honestly he has a faster gear than Barber ever had. Barber did not have a choice to run with physicality, because he did not have the top end speed to be a different player.

Agree to a certain point but Murray hasn't been able to play a 16 game season.

And if he's not playing a 16 game season in his mid 20's, what makes you think he'll be able to in his late 20's?

I think that is a reasonable concern. I'm just not convinced that it isn't more about bad luck than his running style.

I think Dez is signed long term, Free is let go and Murray is franchised. We could draft a guard in the 2nd or 3rd (like they would have done this year with Trai Turner) and move Martin to RT.

Biggest salary cap question for next year I think, will be Carr.

I'm not so sure I would even want to move Martin, he is playing so well. Maybe they will want to, but I'm not sure. It is no gimme that Martin would be as good at tackle. He has shortish arms for tackle and his movement is really nice at G.

Dallas is going to have some money to spend in free agency next year. I would like for them to go RT and DL in free agency if available. A good RT and DL pick-up would be a big help and would allow the team to continue doing what it likes to do in the draft... namely take the best guy regardless of positional need. It also is something that I strongly agree with.

They could take the best LB, DE, DT, or Safety that was on their board.

The lone weakness on the OL would be taken care of and you're not asking Martin to move from a position that he plays exceptionally well. Another good body would be added to the DL (at end or tackle) and if we draft another DL in the first or second (or both), then there could be at lest 3 new trench players and maybe 4.

If dallas went S in round 1 and DL in round 2, then the OL would be improved, the DL would have 2 new people, and they would add a premier player at FS. That could go a long way towards getting the team over the hump.

Agree with all but moving Martin to ROT.

I wouldn't and I've read that this team does not view Martin as a tackle (short arms). He played center and Guard in PS, no tackle that I can recall.

No, but with any luck the moderators will decide to stop warning people who are ruining this board and ban them, and the people who want to have intelligent conversation can hold hands and sing Kumbaya together and enjoy what this board is supposed to be about.

I think what Two Deep means is this teams future is dependent upon Jerry's decision making and that affects everything. As of right now this team has no coach and an owner who won't hire a real coach. Having said that, many of us don't think we are going anywhere with the current staff, including me. I know this thread isn't necessarily about the owner or coach but when people talk about us going somewhere other than 8-8, others don't buy it. I guess we should just ignore it but it's tough. Can You even imagine Garrett game planning for a playoff game? Now that is funny.

This makes a lot of sense. I think you either get a right tackle in free agency. or draft a guy no lower than an early round two pick. Ideally you would trade back in the first round and still get a targeted right tackle at the end of the first round, since they tend to slide a lot more than left tackles do. Incidentally, I also heard a football analyst say that many people are now considering "center" to be a franchise position now, so I am thrilled we invested that late first rounder on Fred Beard even more so as time goes on.

I absolutely love Frederick.

Yeah, we could try to get RT in the draft, but those are also easier to find in free agency and don't cost as much. Either way would be ok... but I'd like to add a relatively young vet to this group and have the whole thing hit the ground running next year. Even though with Frederick and Martin, Dallas has made it look easy to draft a walk-in, day 1 starter on the OL, it really isn't that easy. Most require a little time... particularly if you're talking about the late first round (I know Frederick was late first round, but he is an exception). With a good free agent RT, we are set from jumpstreet and can be dominant from game 1... at least that is my hope.

Plus, I personally and ready for a first round DT, DE or safety. Find a good one and add it to the defense.

Of course what's available in free agency will determine everything. If there isn't a good RT available, then we would have to either wait a year or draft one.

I think everybody in this list is on the bubble:
Murray
Melton
Carr
Free
Gulp McClain
Carter
Gulp Bryant
Hopefully Romo

Yeah I tend to agree. I thought the post by Two Deep was humorous and I think that was the intent, but I have to admit I get that way sometimes over a Romo drive by. I guess it's all in the mood you're in at the time you're posting.

Through two games:

Murray 285 yards / 5.6ypc / 2TD
Johnson 89 yards / 3.6ypc / 0TD

Those stats speak for themselves, although I wonder if Murray was running the ball for the Jets or vice-versa with Johnson running it in Dallas how the stats would be altered.

You mean having Dez at WR, Witten at TE, Romo at QB and 3 1st-round draft picks on the offensive line would make a difference?

Mind-blower!
