I read the thread title, and was expecting a thread of .gifs and pics... Something like Punk's gif of the cat biting the dudes hand who's about to hit the "submit thread" button. I was disappointed to see nothing.

But this line by CC is leagues better.:lmao2:

If CC questions your levity, that is an epic fail.

Favre won't be shipped a contending NFC team, he really has no leverage honestly.

So GB is going to pay Favre $12 million to sit on the bench and back Rodgers up? And create a QB controversy? And split a team one game away from the SB last year?

and he has 2 years left, maybe 3. so they let him sit the bench this year and next?

Yes. He has legacy, fan support with a team owned by the fans (60 to 40 right not unofficially of course), and the team is not going to want to pay $12 for Favre. That's the leverage.

No, they don't have to trade him and they need to be careful not to give the impression of capitulation to him. Bad precedent for the league to cowtow to players. But $12 million is a lot of money for one year.

Ask Adam, but I think they have to eat all that this year unless he signs another contract. I'm assuming that's the last year of his contract and I DON"T know his contract.

Actually the last time I saw a poll on ESPN about what Favre should do (a SportsNation poll where they show the states) Wisconsin said he should stay retired.

12 Million is a lot for one year but the Packers are BY FAR under the cap and can EASILY take that hit.

HAHA, I know right? That is a pretty sad. I mean if CrazyCowboy was on a jury, he'd let anyone off for any crime as long as they were wearing a Cowboys jersey. If you can't pass his litmus test, you just need to hang up your forum hat and stay away.

There are polls that say both sides are favored by the majority. Big surprise. I don't have a side. But when people say Favre has absolutely no leverage I don't think that is realistic. GB is not going to just pay Favre $12 million to sit the bench. They will have to give him a shot at being the starter if he shows up IMO. I just don't see how that kind of distraction can be good for a team that is thinking SB.

In fact if you say the word SB, Rodgers and Favre in the same sentence, you have to think $12 million isn't such a terrible price although its a hunk of change for anyone, anytime, and anywhere. If they can easily absorb the $12 million then there is no argument about Favre coming back IMO. Unless the GB front office thinks they are a better SB shot with Aaron at the helm. Not sure they would be in the majority of opinion but they could be right I guess.

If Favre ever came to Dallas and had the circumstances in place to start, you can kiss every home game goodbye since he can't close the deal while playing in Irving.

What would Minny be willing to give up to get him? How much exactly is it worth to them for a legitimate shot at winning a Super Bowl? A 1st? A 2nd and 3rd? I dunno, but I'll bet its alot. I think it would be pretty damn hillarious for us to trade for Favre, then turn around and trade him to Minny for more than we gave up for him. Give up a 3rd, and turn it into a 2nd and 3rd, or a 1st. What do you guys think?

Stay on the couch, scout.

That would be collusion under NFL partnership agreement and numerous statutes in various jurisdictions.
And the new commish would be all over it like NFL licensing on a flea market.
I am not a lieyer, I mean, lawyer or an NFL law expert but I once played a lawyer on TV. Trust me, it would be collusion.

Sarge you seem pretty emphatic about this. Brett wants to come back and (for some reason) the public loves him. I think the brass caves on this, if he is allowed back in the league coming back from retirement aren't the packers still paying him?

I don't know what imphatic means but I am sure it is bad. Bad like a metaphor that uses clown imagery. Bad like a dame who hides her man from the fuzz. Bad like the villain who created Spam enchiladas. Bad like cartoon avatars or Unicorns and Rainbows avatars.

I don't think the Packers will give in. Tampa Bay is the compromise. That's the only way.

He is signed with the Packers, the Packers WILL NOT release him to an NFC team and he only has one year left (hopefully)......I say this dies a slow death and he just rides off into the sunset - let us not forget, if by chance, somehow he does get traded, he's got to learn a whole new playbook in short order.

I just don't see this going anywhere.

BTW, not everyone loves Brett Favor. The Pack called him in March and asked him back and he said "no", that was his chance. I don't blame the Packers for wanting to move on...which they DID in March when Favor said "no."

No one to blame but Favor.
