Saw that we are $6m+ under the 2007 cap. Just wondered what happens to that money. Do we lose it or can it be converted to 2008 monies, etc. Appreciate any info.

In what way? I mean if you were $6 million under the cap each season for 5 straight seasons, you don't have $30 million in cap space. I know there is a relation, but I don't know the extent. Mostly you just have to look at it year to year with salaries and bonuses.

Not true, the deadline for doing that has passed. I think it's gone.

We can put a bogus incentive in someone's contract. By rule (because it was added after the season started), it counts against this year's cap. But because the player never earns it, we get a credit for that amount on next year's cap.

You can add LTBE incentives to players contracts. If they don't meet them, they're pushed through to the next year.

The NLTBE loophole can be used up until the final game of the season.

Thanks. Can it be for the full $6million amount or is there a reasonable limit? I thought there was a limit.

Doesn't it have to be a LTBE earned? Because NLTBE don't count against the cap?

Give Crayton a bonus for returning A punt instead of fair catching it. :D

I just skimmed through the CBA and didn't see any sort of limitation.

If you want to check it out, heres' the link:

http://nflpa.com/CBA/CBA_Complete.aspx

The rules for incentive reduction (and addition) for each cap year is located in Article XXIV, Section 7(c).

And to answer my own question, the incentive has to be LTBE, not NLTBE, because NLTBE do not count against the current cap.

Classic! Or you could give him one for holding the ball with both hands.

Has a player earned a LTBE that he wasn't supposed to earn?

Has any team messed up their unspent cap money and were unable to roll it forward?

Do they have to spend or roll forward 85% of their cap money? If a minimum isn't spent is there a penalty? Who gets the penalty?

LTBE means "likely to be earned." Under the CBA, if the goal is something that the player accomplished in the previous season, it's likely to be earned.

So, you could easily set it up as something that absolutely cannot be accomplished.

For example, last season Julius Jones had 267 carries. You could give him an LTBE incentive that says if he's rushes for 267 carries in 2007, he'll earn an extra $6 million. However, once he gets to 266, you can simply not give him another carry, thus ensuring that the incentive is not reached.

I have no idea if any team has ever been dumb enough to screw up the process.
