IMO, Quinn will have to duplicate a Brian Sipe 'cardiac kids' type season to prevent us from landing a top five selection next April.JackMagist;1595250 said:I doubt Quinn will be enough to knock us out of the top 10 pick that we all expect but he could be enough to drop us out of the top 5 if they don't play him until later in the year. Fortunately even very good college QB's need to develop and they still have to have a supporting cast which Cleveland (for the most part) doesn't.

Wow, that bold thing really does empower what I have to say!
Last night reminds me of something I saw in Troy Aikman's first game as a pro, 2 things really.
Never mind Dallas was coming off a 3-13 season, this opening game was truly New Orlean's Super Bowl, and the dome was rockin'. Knowing full well this was the way it was going to be, Jimmy had the offense operating on the silent count. Rookie Troy pulled it off wonderfully, I don't believe there was one false start called on the Cowboys that day.
Then there was 'the pass'. A standard, yet difficult 15 yard down and out, Aikman heaved the perfect pass...just enough loft to clear 2 defender's fingertips, enough zip and perfect timing for the receiver to comfortably make the 2 feet down on the sideline reception.
A truly 'professional' pass, in a loss in what became a dismal 1-15 season. But those 2 things told me there was a professional quarterback in the making.
Vince Young did about the same 3 years back when Texas played Ohio State in Columbus. All the talk about his bad mechanics, how he was a runner and not a passer. Then he threw a pass on this deep seam route, splitting the defenders perfectly, laying the ball in stride to where only the receiver could make the reception and roll to the end zone. That pass alone told me he could make any pass...a 'professional' pass.
Now watching Quinn last night, and not reading a box score, or worrying about who he did it against or at what point in the game, things developed how you would like to see them.
Despite a crushing knockdown on his release, Quinn stood in and delivered the ball on the mark. Despite pressure up the middle, (and pressure is pressure no matter if it's a 1st stringer or a 4th stringer) he instinctively rolled to the right and delivered an on the mark pass that only his 4th string wide receiver could catch for a TD.
He didn't appear to have the deer in the headlight look, he didn't appear to have happy feet, he took what they gave him, he didn't force anything.
I have no doubt Cleveland will be delivering us a top 10 pick, be it Frye, Anderson, or Quinn. (I personally belive Anderson will be the odd man out).
But really people, here's where you have to not look outside the box, but look within it, and see the player for what he looked like regardless, and that look was undoubtably 'professional'.
CATCH17;1595436 said:Matt Moore doesnt have the deer in the headlights look against 3rd and 4th stringers either.
All im saying is I do think Quinn is going to be one heck of a QB and I was one of the ones saying i'd choose him over Russell. I just dont think hes good enough to make an impact on that team to have them not picking in the top 5 to top 3 with that schedule.
Personally I think Cleveland and Oakland are fighting to see who is the worst team in football.
jackrussell;1595464 said:Man, you've got to get past the 3rd 4th stringer stuff. You acknowledge that, yet you don't acknowledge he was playing with the 3rd 4th string Clev offense.
There's another thread going of how well Stanback did last night...are you in there reminding everyone how it was against scrubs...or is it because he's our guy?
The thread wasn't saying he was going to lead Clev out of the bottom 10, in fact, it was all about how our chances were looking good for indeed getting a top 10....so apparently you have 2 things not going for you...one is how teams evaluate talent, the second is thread comprehension.
CATCH17;1595479 said:Personally anything dealing with preseason football I put 0 stock into.
Whether it be a 1st stringer, or 12th stringer.
I saw Quincy Carter light teams up his rookie year in the pre-season.
To an AVG fan who hasn't picked up on the concept of pre-season football yet it would've looked like QC was ready to go.
All these guys can throw a football under easy conditions. All these guys can beat defenses that dont prepare and stay as vanilla as you can get.
Its just one big organized practice and anything I see from a preseason game whether it be good or bad I tell myself this is not what your going to see in the regular season and somehow it never is.

regardless of what was going on, quinn did a good job. period. i'm not sure what oeiji board you use to rate players talents but the only way you can see how well a playet does is to watch them play.
you got a better method of rating a players ability, let's hear it.

CATCH17;1595496 said:Just like I thought when Danny Wuerfell, Patrick Ramsey, and the entire Washington Commanders team when SPurrier got there would still suck.
Just like when I thought last year when the Raiders were undefeated they would still suck. Skipping ahead, you knew this how? Judging the Raiders BEFORE the season started? Imagine that!
Quinn did a good job... ok? Browns will still suck. That's been established...and no real revelation. Skipping ahead again...how would you know Quinn did a good job? I mean, you don't judge players til week 1?
When the games start counting is when i'll judge our players. So you wait til the games count to judge players? That couldn't be anymore ridiculous. How would you make cuts BEFORE the season started? For that matter, how would you make draft picks, sign free agents.
I wish there was less pre-season games and I think the players and coaches do too. Oh yes, I'm sure the coaches know after their first inter squad scrimmage (which of course, means nothing because it's before week 1) as to exactly what players they want to fill their 53 man roster with. Gee, why do they bother to practice? Why do they bother to scout? Heck, just show up week 1 and see what happens! [/quote]
As stated in another post...how player evaluation is done isn't your strongest suit.
