This is more of being realistic. With whom we play, we could easily lose all the games Weeden starts, unless this defense gets much better and I don't see it happening. Seattle and New England are already losses. Hell we may have lost those even with Romo. You have to split these 2 games, seeing the Saints are pretty weak and don't even have Brees.

You have to take some shots down field, even if just to put the thought in the defense's head. It's way too easy to defend what we were doing on offense. It may work for a few quarters but not the whole game.

Obviously you didn't watch the game because there were a lot of reasons the Cowboys lost this football. They couldn't stop the Falcons at all. The only time they punted in the second half was when they got a holding call and put them in 3rd and 25. There was no pass rush. Marinelli left the corners on an island against the best receiver in the league right now. Linehan called a very predictable and conservative game. Yeah Weeden was shaky in the second half, but he was far from the reason we lost. Offensive line looked like they did against the Eagles. Terrance Williams was a no show. The wide receiving corps as a whole were pathetic and gave Weeden nowhere to go with the football down the field. Our most productive player in the pass game was Lance Dunbar.

You're right the defense can't get any better. It's not like they have an elite pass rusher coming back soon in Greg Hardy, the most talented rusher from this past draft in Randy Gregory, or a guy who saved our season last year and is a true Mike backer in Rolando McClain.

The point is that if he had done anything to move his team in the 2nd half we prob still win this game even with the pathetic defensive performance.

His stupid INT and that slide on 3rd down in the closing minutes speak volumes about him, even tho they are only 2 plays.

Lol I guess not neglecting the fact that there were several reasons we lost this game makes me an apologist. Whatever dude. What the hell do you expect from a backup QB? The dude had four incompletions. Yes a lot of underneath stuff because there was nothing open deep. If he had tried to take some deep shots and was picked you'd be claiming that he shouldn't be taking those kinds of chances.

I dont think he was very good just because of some stats. He did well while there was no pressure to perform. As soon as the game became competitive he didnt get anything done. How many drives did he lead in the 2nd half? How much clock did he kill? What did he do to keep our defense off of the field for more than 3 and outs?

Weeden could have done more....but he most certainly could have done much WORSE. I was expecting a 11/24 0TDs 2INT 1Fumble game. He is what he is. A statue that needs low risk plays to succeed. I honestly don't think Cassel could have done much better. We're at the mercy of just being happy with a ball-protecting, game-managing effort from whatever QB we have and hoping that the game is decided by means other than "shoot outs". We had that going for us today, but the defensive side (whether player or coach driven) came up short.

Regardless, what we need NOW is for some of our studs to start trickling back in and for us to survive this fecal-storm of bad luck. It starts to ease-up on us in week 5 with having Hardy and McClain back.Yeah I know..against Bilichick coming off of a bye week, but as long as it's a hard fought game, I'll be happy. The big game is Week 7 against the Giants. We're still without Romo and probably Dez, but that might be the deciding game in the division.

Like it or not, we are facing a storm (either natural, supernatural or Mara-made)...stay strong.It can't get much worse than it is now. Unless we lose Hayden..

When did I say that? I didn't say he was perfect. Weeden had that inexplicable, bonehead interception that you can't make and throwing high for Witten in the second half that could've sustained a drive.

You can tell either Weeden or the coaches or both don't want him making any throws that would be regarded as medium or high levels of difficulty. He threw 26 passes and I remember (two long ones) -- the seam route to Jason Witten, that was a high pass and a slant to Terrance Williams. Otherwise everything was within five yards of the line of scrimmage, and the Falcons adjusted appropriately. Once that happened, the Cowboys had an offense that had zero explosiveness. They were going to have to run the football right down the Falcons throats, and the Falcons would not have that. They stacked the box and quieted that idea in the second half.

Should the Cowboys have thrown more downfield?
Yes. Oh yes. That was their only chance -- catch the Falcons not taking their passing game seriously. And the time to try that is first down. I am pretty sure they never passed on first and they were pretty clear with their gameplan, which was try to work with a quarterback who can't run an NFL offense very well. The more we think about it, we should have seen that last week when they traded for Matt Cassel. Not that Cassel can do magic tricks. They were pretty sure what Brandon Weeden could not do.

Is there QB controversy now?
I'm not sure it's a controversy as much as it's trying to survive and win a few games between now and Nov. 22 (when Tony Romo is slated to return). There certainly is some hesitancy to be running Weeden out there many more times. You just cant have a 21-7 lead and throw that interception, and you can't slide in the backfield when you're down to your last chance and try to avoid contact. That probably right there, that play where it's third down and short and he's sliding for self-preservation, that will leave the coaches looking quickly into alternatives.
