We will never have an easier road to the SB than we did this year...

I agree w/ Sarge and Chocolate. My biggest worry is Wade Phillips record. Norm Hitzges was giving some astounding statistics for Wades seasons as a HC: He starts pretty well but fades in the stretch. He had his actual records to prove it, including this year's.

I find it hard to believe that after 7 years HC-ing as he has, he is suddenly going to do an about-face, and start working harder after Thanksgiving.

And someone not too long ago was famous for saying "you are what you are.". I think that aptly applies to Wade.

I'm no fan of his either. I rue the day BP came here and installed the 3-4. The reason we had to hire Wade was his experience w/ the 3-4, and last year the D was in trouble.

I was in favor of hiring Wade for that reason, and quite frankly, I had not researched his record as HC in as much detail as Hitzges. Not saying we can't over come it, nor that Wade can't change, just that it's not very likely...

According to Windward:

The 1998 Bills won three of their last four games to qualify for the playoffs, their only loss to eventual AFC runner up New York Jets.

The 1999 Bills finished with wins in four out of their last five games and six out of their last eight.

It's not as if he's never had teams finish the season strong before.

Please be very careful in putting too much stock in what Norm says. The man means well, but he's quite often off his rocker.

If you'd listened to his postgame show each week, you'd think we were a 3-13 team rather than 13-3, as negative as he was.

Hitzges' stats on Phillips' Dec records with Buffalo were SKEWED. He forgot to mention that the Bills won 3/4 in '98, and 6/8 in '99.

Oh-Elway got injured late in '94 with Denver-what if Romo missed an entire month with noodle-arm Johnson under center?

This was easier than last year's road?

Nope. But it's going to continue seeming like the easiest year ever so long as the talent disparity between us and the rest of the conference continues. Time will only tell if we eventually make the conference pay for not stepping up to our talent level.

.

I prefer what BP offered in the personnel dept over what he offered as HC. I don't think it's a coincidence that in Dallas, he was without his main assistants, like Belichick, Weis, Crennell, etc and he had the least success here. I also wasn't big on going to the 3-4. But I do credit him for getting us out of that 5-11 funk we were mired in and making us respectable again.

I don't know how anyone can say that the Cowboys will never have it any easier to get to the SB...you just cannot tell the future like that.

Also, it could be worse! We could be in the Commanders or the eagles position...

we lost because the coach wants to be liked and let the guys do what they want like take 5000 penalties and personal fouls

The problem is we got complacent. We relished in the number of Pro Bowlers, our beating Green Bay and our record. We didn't take the late seson losses seriously. Romo goes to Cancun with Jessica. The attitude of this franchise was very laissez faire.

You're correct and a good coach would not have let a lot of this happen.

I give Wade an overall B+ on the year, but the last month heading into the playoffs, he lost the team. Color me VERY concerned in this regard.

So, what is the answer? Phillips and Parcells are two very different coaches, yet the team finished the last two seasons in very similar fashion. Ask many across the nation and they will say Parcells is still a good coach, but he could not stop the complacency, either. Will Jason Garrett be much different when he ascends the thrown? I don't know the answer if there is an obvious one out there.

It was an easy route to the SB, but it was perhaps the most difficult route actually winning it.

I'd rather face a team I thought we had a better than 50/50 shot at beating-- and this New England team isn't it.

We would have gotten hammered.

I personally would have taken the Jimmy Johnson approach emphasizing you can't just turn it on and off ............emphasizing momentum.

I would have also encouraged ALL players to stay under the radar on the 2 weeks off as opposed to going to Mexico with the hottest chick on the planet. Emphasis on avoiding distractions.

Wade did a great job with this team, but if you grade him solely on the last month, he did a very average job to say the least.

Parcells tried that approach last year and it still did not work. It seems like it should, but it did work for these players. Somethings amiss. I think even Jimmy would have difficulty with this group.

I thought it was dumb to go to Mexico for Tony Romo. Of course since he is dating Jessica Simpson it would not matter what he did because it probably would have been in the news. As QB of the Cowboys dating a quasi-celebrity, he is held to a different standard. Not a higher standard, but a ridiculous one. Even if he thinks he is doing the right thing(I don't think he truly did anything wrong) it is going to be over scrutinized. Unfortunate, but the reality. With that in mind he has to not take chances like that. Oh, well. He probably learned something.

 She's a freaking plow horse, Sarge! You need to get your expectations raised up some...

Anyway, I would have like Wade to make the players stay more focused during the bye week as opposed to "getting away from football for awhile".

(hottest chick on the planet? What planet, Mars?)!!

We should have slept-walked into the title game. I still can't believe we lost to Sheli and his incredibly average team... :banghead:

Aye. This road to Glendale was about as easy as it gets. And Dallas squandered it. The talent on the roster gives this team a chance at getting back, but there are no guarantees.

Until this team can figure out how not to hike its skirt once December comes rolling around, the frustration will certainly linger.
