He asked what is there to be optimistic about, I think it shows reason to believe that even without Romo and Dez we're still better than teams like the Eagles and Bucs. Yes, we're 0-4 without Romo, but other than the Saints, they faced 3 teams with winning records, and they didn't get their doors blown off (for the most part)... I agree that many of those yards on offense took place between the 20's, but that was without our redzone monster Dez Bryant, and it looks like he'll get back as early as this week... With Bryant back, you'll have less drives stall outside the redzone, and more drives ending TD's, and alas there's more reason to believe that we can defeat teams like the Eagles and Bucs... If we didn't have the remedy for what ails us, then I wouldn't be so optimistic, but we have the cure, and it's on the way...

That's all fine and good -- I can get on board with being excited about Dez returning. But these stats you're throwing out are worse than worthless, they're misleading. The only thing these stats tell you is that they're not very good stats because they have virtually no relationship to actually winning a ball game. I watch this team bumble through every game and then I read we're 9th in total offense. Good stuff. I will agree that the team has been incredibly offensive though.

We'll end up playing really, really well the last couple games but will be out of the playoffs....Our luck.

No, we'll be 5-1 in the last six games after Romo returns and miss the playoffs in a tiebreaker. And then the media will come out, focus on the one loss and say that once again, Romo couldn't get it done when it counted.

I don't know why you think this team without Romo is a better team than the Bucs or the Eagles. Granted the Bucs and the Eagles are not very good teams but they are fully capable of beating a Cowboy team without #9. We're in no position to start penciling in W's. Right now, we're the team that other teams fans are penciling in W's against.

all of these scenarios have us beating wash twice! They are a decent team this year and they always win one of the 2.
All also have dallas losing to GB, Carolina, but since we are in dire straights, Dallas needs to win 1 or both of those games to get in playoffs.
I mean really whats the point of getting in the playoffs if you cant beat those 2 teams?

All have us beating buffalo, but that is in the cold in buffalo, with good defense, so that could easily be a loss.
Truth is we dont know which games they will win or lose, but you cant concede to GB, Carolina, and you cant say we definitely win
certain games. you never know, any given day.

After all who thought harris would have a 100 yd td return on us last game ?????????
I didnt, I never even considered that to happen, but there it was.
Who would ever think beasely would muff a punt catch that badly ????? not me, a fumble maybe , but not anything like what he did.

Any of these teams can beat dallas and we can beat any of them.
question is can we win 2 of the next 3?? I think it is a key.

And i do agree, 7-9 to 9-7 could win the div. but they better shoot for 9-7. 7-9 is a big maybe.
And I doubt dallas will finish 5-1 in div I am thinking 4-2 at best and maybe 3-3 , so it could come down to conf wins

Bottom line is Dallas is still in it , they just need to start winning some games.
And even if they lose to Seattle They still have a good chance, they will just need to win 2 in a row.

Exactly lol eagle and wash fans are putting the W down for the dallas games right now. Seattle fans too.
Truth is nobody knows, they all could go either way.

If the OP revises the title to "we will still win 9+ games, BOOK IT", I might be persuaded.

I think we could win 8 or 9 games, and possibly make the playoffs in this crappy division, but I just can't get excited knowing we'll probably be jettisoned in the first round again for our trouble. It seems like we're in a habitual loop where we make the playoffs then quickly get dispatched. I still think we have a lot of problems even with Dez and Tony healthy. Our defense just isn't a championship defense, and our running game needs upgrading. It worries me by the time we improve the defense Tony will be too old and will have to start over again.

This team could be dangerous if they make the playoffs. It is the getting there thing that I question.

yup...busted

Infact.....after revising I think this might be an even more realistic scenerio

Cowboys 7-9

Seahawks - Loss...
Eagles - Win...
@ Bucs - Win...
@ Dolphins - Loss
Panthers - Loss..............** same thing as packers needs to be a statement game
@ Commanders - Win...
@ Packers - Loss...........** need to have as a win otherwise playoffs are pointless
Jets - Loss
@ Bills - Win...
Commanders - Win.......** I doubt we beat the both times

Giants 7-9

@ New Orleans Saints Win...
@
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Win...
New England Patriots Loss...
@ Washington Commanders Loss...
New York Jets Loss...
@ Miami Dolphins Loss...
Carolina Panthers Loss...
@ Minnesota Vikings Loss...
Philadelphia Eagles Win...

Commanders 7-9

@ New England Patriots Loss...
Saints Win...
@Carolina Panthers Loss...
Giants Win...
Cowboys Loss...
@ Bears Win...
Bills Win...
@Philadelphia Eagles Loss...
@ Cowboys Loss...

Eagles 7-9

@ Cowboys Loss...
Miami Dolphins Loss
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Win
@ Detroit Win...
@
Patriots Loss...
Buffalo Win...
Arizona Loss...
Washington Win...
@ Giants Loss....

Comes down to a divisional tie breaker......I think we get in w/ a 5-1 record:lmao2:Anyway....the Jets are gonna have a big say in our division. Who can beat the Jets is gonna be the difference to get to 8-8:)
jets are no big deal , you have to look at that div as a whole, same for the nfcs, Dallas just needs to have more wins in those divisions than the other nfc teams or at least same amount.

last year dallas was 4-0 in Colt div, and that helped them go 12-4, had they gone 2-2 they would have been 10-6
Dallas right now is 0-1 in afce, and 0-2 in nfcs so they need some wins in those 2 div bad.
Eagles beat the jets 1-0 and NO lost to atl so 1-1
Giant beat buffalo 1-0 and lost atl 0-1
Wash right now is 0-2 in afce, and 1-1 in nfcs

All NFCE teams have a win in AFCE except dallas and Wash
Eagles have a win in both and wash and eagles each have 1 win in the NFCS
The best dallas can do in the NFC south is 2-2 Thanks to that NO loss. and carolina is one of 2 teams left to play so they really need to beat them!
The best dallas can do in the AFCE is 3-1 but I doubt that, 2-2 at best

Only if you're only looking at the final score. There was plenty on Sunday to warrant optimism.

Optimism going forward into next season, sure; the talent is there, but the team this year is probably not going to come together as a cohesive unit quick enough to mitigate the damage that has already been done to their season. The margin for error in the NFL, in which only 16 games are played is very slim, and it appears the Cowboys have already crossed that margin from my perspective. A straight A student who drops one test loses a letter grade, well, the Cowboys have dropped a bunch of those tests, and their report card isn't looking so hot this year as you well know.

I'm not confident we beat Tampa without Romo, they have 2 monsters at receiver and with our secondary that worries me.

There are no easy games remaining on this schedule. We've already put ourselves in a bad spot, I don't think some of you guys realize the improbability it is to make the playoffs with a 2-4 start. If we lose to Seattle that may very well be the nail in the coffin. We won't be mathematically eliminated, but going 8-1 or 7-2 the rest of the way is a tall task given we're still a month away from romo returning
