Which was the right call, in hindsight? Stick it out with Weeden, after his 0-3 start, or go with Cassell?

2nd question -- How many of you have a different answer now, than you did 2 months ago?

Hindsight is easy.

Weeden has a 92 QB rating while he was here. He did a much better job protecting the ball than Cassel.

Weeden didn't throw the ball downfield because, in hindsight, there was nobody to throw the ball downfield to without Dez. T. Williams was bitterly dissapointing trying to step up to the WR1 position.

Cassell is absolutely worthless.

I'll be honest here. Originally, I thought Cassel gave us a better chance to win. He made some awesome throws in his first start, that we just hadn't seen out of Witten. Then, he threw killer interceptions. Weeden may have been overcautious, but that may have been good enough for us to win one of those games...

Yes hindsight is easy. That's why I asked if you choice now differs from your choice 2 months ago.

There's a reason both of them were third stringers at some point this season. Neither one is the answer. Weeden will get exposed "again" next week. There's plenty of tape on him. Now if you had to choose between them is like choosing between amputating your foot or your hand, neither one is good.

it is my opinion that had Dunbar not gotten injured that Weeden would've remained the starter. Once Dunbar went down, we didn't have many options left with Dez out/hobbled as far as moving the sticks.
Hindsight though, we should've kept the draft pick and launched Moore weeks ago, which I really liked him coming out of college, guy just gets it.

It's really half-dozen of one, 6 of the other. If in hindsight you told me Romo was going to outright miss 10 games and be knocked out of 2 others, I would have told you it didn't really matter who the backup QB was.

Weeden, like Cassell is in an impossible situation now in Houston.

If we didn't crap the bed so bad we wouldn't have had to rush him back so soon.

Good take on the Dunbar injury. Never thought of it like that, but its accurate.

Seeing how awful Cassel became, makes me wish we had stuck with Weeden instead.

Of course, that is seeing what we saw the other night and having the benefit of hindsight. Cassel just completely fell apart.

I feel he was put in an awful situation to start. But now, its all on his awful performances.

Great post! I am in agreement.

Wanting more out of the QB spot after 3 games of Weeden was defensible. The error was that they thought Weeden was getting 50% of the full potential of a backup QB in the offensive scheme in place. It was actually 95%.

Weeden was exactly as bad as I thought he would be, he stunk and we ran him out of here. Cassel was a huge disappointment but at least he threw down the field and gave it a shot.

It was the right decision to make at the time, it was at least worth trying something different even if it didn't work out.

Weeden was awful after being here over a year. There is no reason to look back with rose colored goggles and pretend Weeden was some reliable backup, he wasn't. He sucked, he's gone, good riddance.

Seeing Weeden beat the Colts yesterday after only being in their system for a few weeks, I don't think it matters who the back-up is/was. Think everyone knows where the problem is.

Oh you mean on his 18 pass attempts? Dominant performance, I tell ya.

He played well in relief of Romo in some games too. He looked decent against Washington and they Giants in games in came in. Looked like a totally different QB when he was the starter. So the fact that he "won" a game doesn't mean our coaches suck.. that's just silly. I had thought he would be better this year.. but he just sucks. Glad he is gone.

One thing that everyone is failing to mention.

Weeden didn't have Dez. Cassell did.
