Week 1 vs Jets Notes/Prediction

What pass rush? Ware was the only player on this team to consistently get to that QB

Our strengths don't match up at all, their biggest strength is their defensive front 7 our 2nd biggest weakness after secondary if not our biggest is our inexperienced OL

We might be better at CB then what they showed last season i honestly think that to, but there was no offseason program and both our top 2 missed almost all of training camp. Even if 2010 never happened that would worry me.

One advantage we'll probably have as the season goes on is Rob schemes, Jets run a similar one and probably knows our D better then we do at this point

Offensively their biggest strengths are their OL and WR depth after seeing our DL get pushed back several yards on just about every running play in the preseason i can't sit here and say our front 7 is a strength at this point and our secondary on a good day might be nothing more then average at best.

Not saying we can't win, this team seems to play their best when people write them off just saying pretty much all the match ups in this game favor them

They also struggle vs. tight ends which is one of our biggest strengths on offense. Our OL is a problem but our offense is not. We have always had a great offense under Garrett and that will continue this year. Our offense as a whole/ vs their defense as a whole will be exciting. It should be a good, close game.

So do you think Revis picks one guy our whole game or will he line up on Austin and Dez?

If Rex is as smart as I think he is he'll assign Revis to Dez and Cromartie to Austin. My logic behind that is you put the best db in the game on the most physically gifted receiver on the opposite team. As much as I would love to see Dez give revis the business while sipping on some soda in a lawn chair while vacationing on "Revis Island", it's just not smart to think that is going to happen. I hope Revis ends up on Austin, but whoever Cro is assigned to will have a big game.

Almost always Rex decides that it's one player that gets the Revis treatment. I'm betting that stays the same and it's Austin. The only real exception to that was against the Patriots, and that's largely because since Moss left, they don't really have a #1 and the ball is spread around so much - plus we play a lot more zone against the Patriots because we need to mix it up and try to confuse Brady ~ it worked in the playoffs last year :D.

For what it's worth from my perspective, Austin's route-running is far more polished than Dez, and that type of precision could eat up Cromartie. Plus Cro's athleticism and size actually make him a solid matchup v Dez, although I just worry if Dez does catch the pass and we have to count on Cro to tackle him...

If I was a betting man, I'd say it's Revis on Austin. Dez is clearly the better talent, but he's still too young and raw to be considered a bigger threat than Austin in my opinion.

On top of all that, I'd say Witten gets the most targets in this game. He's the guy I'm scared of the most in this game. Cromartie, while people have a lot of opinions about him either way it would seem, actually played great last year for us and I expect him only to get better as he gets used to our system.

But we have no linebacker or safety that can handle Witten, is my point. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he had a big game regardless of the final score - which I put at 20-16 in favor of the Jets : ). Our D will propel us to win the turnover battle and that will decide the game... in my opinion.

I agree with your points on Austin and Dez. I'm still hoping to see Revis on both but if one gets him then oh well. Dez is just too raw I want to see that battle so bad. Also, Cromartie is a solid player; he would definitely be starting on this team haha.

Good luck to you guys, pumped for Sunday it seems so close yet so far away.

If your OL is a problem then your whole offense is a problem. Doesn't matter who can get open if your QB is on his back

Let's see who Revis decides to take, and then exploit the hell out of that area underneath. We still have good pass protection from our 11 set and can run any number of plays that still involve taking advantage of the space vacated by Revis with our superb TE and speedster Felix. Ya think Garrett hasn't thought of that as well?

I get a kick out of them thinking one person is going to be able Demarcus. NOBODY handles Demarcus one on one. It's blatantly stupid to think so. We've seen him abuse the best the NFL has to offer, and do it against double teams as well.

The third issue worth mentioning is our offensive play calling with our new offensive line. They mentioned it on their board a bit, but never really connected the dots to draw in the whole picture. We're obviously not going to leave the line with their collective rears hanging in the wind. We've got two terrific blocking TE's who also happen to excel as receivers. Although John Phillip's stat lines for his career don't appear worthy of mention, we all know better.

We know that our 22 set has 4 deadly receiving options despite looking like a power run formation. Witten, Felix, Demarco Murray, and either Miles or Dez on the outside. Lord help them if what they say is true about having problems covering the TE, because I see them getting a hefty serving of multiple TE's going out on routes after the chip block on the edge.

Same thing with the screen game and any routes out of the backfield. Quick passes temper the pass rush and play doubly into our favor. It gives our young offensive line a little help if they need it, and it plays into two of our greatest strengths on offense.

Defense will be the other side of the coin methinks. No telling what Rob has up his sleeve. To be perfectly candid, I don't know what to expect. Is Plax going to be ready to play 60 full minutes after missing a week (or was it two?) of training camp? Are our starting CB's going to be in the same boat? I think Plax really needs about 2-3 weeks to show up. Just a gut feeling, nothing more.

Field position might be a major factor in this game. We know that we've got one of the absolute best punters in the league, and a KO specialist that can put it into Canada if he so chooses.

Another item they mentioned is their slow starts. I have absolute faith that Garrett will have our guys ready to play the second the whistle sounds. We come out sharp, and we can drop 10-14 on them before the first half is over. We've seen our offense do it before against teams just as good, and we have some better players at WR and RB than before.

I could see this being a 24-17 game, or a 21-17.

On the tenth anniversary of 9-11, America's Team wins one for America.

OL is a question mark. I think it will be better this year, but not where it needs to be. We will still have a solid offense I'm confident in that.

Our offense is a lot more the solid if the line can hold up

We got a solid QB, a future HOF TE, 2 potential probowl WRs and a HB that is looking better then he ever has. There are mismatches all over the place here if the OL holds up but if they don't it would pretty much negate all of it

I think Garrett has probably scribbled a note to himself about that at some point this offseason. As I mentioned above, we can run a heck of a lot of plays out of what appears to be a max protect or power run formation and still come out with plenty of protection and passing options.

Quick example. 2 TE set outside of Tyron. Felix and Murray, offset I right. Miles lined up right. Miles runs a post and maybe pulls the safety over to the center of the field with the safety. Underneath, you've got 3 hellacious options to throw the ball to (I'll consider one of them solely a blocker), and the whole right side of the field to the sideline is free of defenders if you seal the edge.

That my good man really works to our advantage. Quick pass requires little time for the offensive line to break down, works with our speed on the offensive line and their self-admitted inability to cover a TE or route out of the backfield.

they have a strong D and a mediocre O
we have a strong O and a mediocre D

should be a good game

3 rookies on the o-line against Rex Ryan's defense.

Sorry, but no way I see us winning this game without like 6 takeaways.

Prediction.............Jets 24...............Dallas 17

Sorry.:(

Was Revis a great player in 2007? Unfortunately I do not recall. I do remember the Cowboys pounding the Jets 34-10. TO had 5 catches, 65 yds, 1 TD. Mangini was the HC and they were not a good team back then. But Romo has gone up against Revis and won.

In case anyone is interested, here's what they're saying on the Jets board...

http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=67441

Interesting quote:

Their passing attack worries me. Rex's weakness as we all know is TE's over the middle and RB's in the flats. Needless to say Jason Witten is Jason Witten. Felix jones against our aggressive blitz calls could be a problem too. one bad call and Jones is a juke away from putting 6 on the board. not to mention having Choice and Murray as your 2nd and 3rd options doesnt hurt either.

Cowboys stun the Jets in their house 24-10.

They've got a lot more to lose than we do, all the pressure is on them, we're flying under the radar, we're young, talented, and naive enough to walk outta there with a win and reel 3 more off before we face N.E.

That's the way I hope the teams is thinking anyway.

I like the way you think...

I know its very cliche but we will win if we win the turnover battle.

^^This^^

As well, ball control so we can control the clock and keep their defense on the field. Good ole fundamental football in this game.

Force their offense totally into Sanchez's hands where he has to come up with plays.

Stop their run early. They have a nice o-line, but their rb's are not the greatest.

I'm certain we are better against the run than preseason has indicated.

I say we start running at their corners whether with screens or outs pronto.

Bang them up right off the bat. See how well their wheels work against our WR's up in the air and down the field after that.

Force them to have to play closer to the line of scrimmage once our running game gets going.

Trust me, they can't bump Austin and Dez all game. They're gonna get beat a couple times down the field and on jump balls if they have to come up.

Rex shot his mouth off about his bro already. Let's see how this defense responds.

I bet Ware beats D'Brickshaw quite a bit. Not on quickness, but out right punch and strength.

Knock on them last year was no pass rush. I don't see where they got any better in that regards. Romo should have time.

Looking at their individuals on defense, makes me more convinced that the scheme is more important than the talent.

i watched Revis play, yes he's good, but not all that, that people build him up to be......

Oh, get real. If you think the Cowboys are going to win the game, fine, but don't say dumb things like this. Go look at the receivers he shut down in 2009 and the second half of 2010.

Reggie Wayne caught 111 balls in the regular season last year and then had one catch for one yard against Revis in the playoffs.

One catch. One yard.

ALL about our oline in this one.......no one is saying it, but I hope to heck Romo comes out of it healthy. Would like to see Red keep the game plan VERY vanilla. 24-14 Jets win.:(

Is anybody mentioning the fact that Sanchez sucks? He's good for a couple of nice throws per game, and the rest he looks like a rookie.

I'll go us 27-20.
