Week One looks like an offensive explosion in the making

Trouble is that we fall within these ranks. If we win, it will be because this defense is better than anyone thinks it will be OR because the offense just has an absolutely outstanding game.
I disagree.

As pitiful as they were at times last year, the Cowboys were a field goal away from going to the playoffs.

Was speaking specifically of falling into the ranks of teams with defenses that gave up 30-plus points to San Francisco.

If the 49ers' pitiful offense can score 30 points against Green Bay, it can score 30 against us unless the defense is vastly improved. In that case, we need to offense to come through with more than 30.

Oh well yea, I was more responding to the idea of the game being a blowout.

Agree. And not a single team all year did that last year on them.

So instead, we win 24-23. :)

Jerry will do it to you.

Textbook response.

Why waste your time on this when you've thrown in the towel?

My suspicion is that when things turn around the realists will be out in front thumping their chests.

Even if they've already checked out because of Jerry they'll be back.

And before anyone says we won't win until Jerry's gone you'll have a hard time denying this team has (finally) started to build a foundation we can be proud of.

And that will ensure the Cowboys will continue to be in the mix for the divisional crown

Maybe even further.

If they can ever get over that hump.

So it is my opinion that throwing in the towel a week before we have even seen these guys take the field is weak.

But even if I'm wrong I'll still be here.

It's very confusing sometimes...

And what's the point of always looking positive only to be let down again and again. It goes both ways. I was like you at one time. Everyone says foundation. I'll grant you the OL looks good and we have some good young receivers that might be good. They have to step up first though. The defense is awful. I don't see much there. Yea they might be better than last year but they just about would have to be. The coaching is another matter. Will Garrett finally stop blowing games? Will this team quit beating themselves because they've been doing it since the Wade years? I don't think we'll get blown out in the first game. Heck we might even surprise the 49ers on opening week. It's the one thing we have in our favor. We have the whole summer to prepare for them. No matter what I'm not going anywhere. I've been a fan for 40 years and I'll be one until I die. Jerry Jones isn't going to get rid of me but I'll still voice my opinion on him.

The 49ers just lost defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey for the season with a torn bicep. Aldon Smith is about to get suspended. Navarro Bowman is rehabbing from blowing out his knee in the NFC championship game.

Combine that with the absences of Lawrence and Spencer in Week 1.....

These offenses might score a combined 100 points that afternoon.

Usually this means that it will be a 6-3 game.

I'm calling it now, Dallas will win this game by 14 points or more. San Fran defense is in shambles, between Aldon suspension, Bowman leg broke, NT torn biceps, OL holding out, 3 starters in secondary leaving via FA, 3 RBs out with injury, injury prone Gore and rookie backup running, below average WRs, TE disgruntled, over paid and over rated QB, head coach and front office hates each other...... did I forget anything. I say they have many problems over there.

Dallas on the other hand has maybe the best OL in the game with a beast WR and RB. The offense will score and score often. Our defense is young and fast, might give up many yards but will get turnovers. I take our offense beating their defense more then their offense over our defense

I doubt if the combined scores eclipse 50 points. The 49ers offense is not near as potent on the offensive side of the ball as they get credit for; their defense is what has set's them apart. They ranked 24th in the NFL last year in yards gained and 11th in average points scored. The Cowboys ranked 16th in yards and 5th in average points scored. But because it will be strength versus strength, it very would could be a low scoring game.

So let me get this straight. An offense consisting of:

Boldin
Crabtree
Davis
Stevie Johnson
Kaepernick
Gore

Isn't good enough to score? The only limiting factor I see is Kaepernick and it's really dependent on how he plays.

Will you give me SF +7 for $100?

The thing is last year SF was very limited on offense for most of the year because Crabtree was out. So they had Boldin who is decent but old and then Davis as their only other receiving threats. That will be a lot different this year with Crabtree back and the addition of Johnson. Then there is always the threat that KAP will take off and run.

The 49ers offense sucks just as much as our defense. Here are the teams they scored more than 30 points against last year: GB, STL, HOU, TEN, JAX, TB, ATL, ARZ. One decent defense amongst them.

They totaled 39 points in 3 games against Seattle, 32 in 2 games against Carolina, and were held to single digits in 1 game by each of those teams. They managed only 7 points against the Colts.

There is no reason - other than buying into hype machines - to think that the 9ers are going to roll over the Cowboys...especially without the guys that they are going to be missing. The 9ers have just been the beneficiary of a terrible NFC and make sure not to beat themselves against inferior teams. That's the only thing that has set them apart from teams like Dallas, Philly, ATL, GB, Car, etc. in the past couple of years. They've got no explosive playmakers and a defense that has lost a step.

I'm not going to make a win prediction, but I would be far more surprised to see SF win in a blowout than the cowboys.

Sign me up.
