This time last year, I believe I recall some suggesting we cut Parnell and keep Wetzel.

You are correct.

People dogged on Parnell at this time last year. He ended up being a terrific backup OT and according to Sturm's in depth review he was only responsible for 1/2 sack while starting 7 games.

Weems is not as good as Parnell was at this time last year, but he is better than most people are giving him credit for.

Weems just needs to continue getting snaps.

Parnell had power that Weems has never displayed.

Not many players do, IMO. Free definitely does not have the power that Parnell does.

I actually think Weems might be more powerful than Free.

They really should give him some snaps at RT next to Martin when he returns.

Lots of people under estimated Parnell
Some think a tackle who misses a block, gets a penalty or gives up a sack is a bust
Parnell is a good football player and got paid that way
Weems has no where near the reps so obviously he should get better
He may never be as good as Parnell but hard to judge him right now
Looking forward to you checking out all 22 and seeing what you thought
Haven't found many people including myself who can really evaluate oline watching the game. Well maybe Dill
He needs to be working at McDonald's lol

Free is able to push NFL starters downfield. Weems tries to hold on like a turnstyle as the 3rd string DE is ripping the corner.

Unfortunately they don't provide the All-22 for the preseason games. The Game Pass as it's now called just has the broadcast view for the PS games.

I actually thought Weems improved from week 1. In week 1 he was beaten cleanly twice on inside moves. In week 2 he was a half step behind on inside moves a couple of times but managed to stay with the defender and ride him past the QB.

On the sack, it was a stunt and I think Collins was partially responsible. It is unfortunate to have Weems both playing LT and playing next to a rookie. It would help him to get some reps on the right next to Martin.

Poor ole Dill is getting the most he can from his physical ability. He's not doing anything stupid, he just does not have the physical ability to play OL in the NFL. The Cowboys don't have many pure camp bodies that have zero chance to ever make a team somewhere but Dill is definitely the definition of camp body.

It's funny because last year most people argued with me when I said Parnell was good, especially in the preseason; however, this year now that people see the current backup OTs, both fans and media are extolling how much the Cowboys miss Parnell.

Back to Weems, I think he can definitely get better and probably become a reasonable backup; however, he needs more time and reps and the season is quickly approaching. As I said before, it would definitely help if he was at RT next to Martin. Maybe the in season plan could be to keep him at RT as the backup and move Free to LT if something happened to Smith. The probability is much higher that Free will miss time than Smith. I don't have a good feeling about Free's feet. He has had 2 foot/ankle surgeries in the past 18 months and had to miss time in TC to rest his foot or feet (I'm not clear on whether the 2nd surgery was on the same foot or opposite foot from the original surgery).

The other options are to move either Collins or Martin to OT if something happened to Smith or Free. I would really like to see Collins practicing there now, but they don't seem to have any plans to do that. They also have not had Martin take any reps at OT since he has been here. He has taken reps at Center but not at OT. Gibson is not an option according to reports. He looked OK against 3rd team Niner's defenders but they didn't show him any stunts or blitzes.

Listening to the Break and Talking Cowboys on the mother ship (on demand in my case) both Nate Newton and Broaddus thought Weems’s play improved from the SD game and they didn’t think he played badly at all.

Now Spagnola didn’t agree with Newton, but whose opinion are you going to trust more?

Mickey was by far the biggest critic of Parnell when he was here. Mickey is a goof.

I'm pretty sure that Weems is not as bad as most on this board thinks and I do feel he'll come along
as the season unfolds. We have to be content right now cause there is absolutely no one that the
Cowboys like enough to bring in right now or they already would have. There will most likely be some
guys on the loose during cutdowns over the next two weeks. If we don't find one, there may be a
veteran available but don't look for one of those coming to the team until after the Giants game so
they don't have to guarantee the contract for the whole season. Things will work out okay cause
Will McClay is on the job!

I just don't see a lack of strength. He actually looks quite strong on many running plays and he used his upper body to twist the defender into the ground on the play where he was called for holding.

His issue is positioning and sometimes hand placement. One wrong step is all it takes to be out of position.

Even without perfect technique, he managed to stay between the defender and the QB on all plays except the twist stunt that resulted in a sack. IMO, Collins failed to slow the inside defender down initially on that play allowing him to slam into Weems while he was blocking the outside guy. They saw the same stunt later in the game and handled it quite well.
