I hear what you are saying there Reg. However, for the rivalry to become intense, I think there would have to be several great regular and post-season games played for several years.

The Cowboys and Saints haven't had a history of hooking up when both teams are "post-season" good.

All of this can change though.

I have always wondered why these two teams are not in the same division. If they were, then that would guarantee Dallas one less chance at a cold game on the road (like New York last week).

Then again, myself included, many Cowboy fans love the divisional rivalries they currently have.

when the NFL realigned, we shouldve been moved to the NFC South with NO, ATL, TB, and Carolina shouldve replaced us in the East. i wouldnt miss the Skins, Giants, or Eagles one bit.

the possibilty of a rivalry could exist if both teams start consistently making the playoffs as was the case in 90's where we played the 9ers in like 3 NFC Championships. and for a short time the Pack as well. you never know.

Chris, I am sure you already know that

1. the 9ers have more of a winning tradition than the Saints.

2. There have been several great post-season games played between these two teams prior to the 90s. 1970, 1971, 1972, and 1981 to be exact.

and

3. Dallas and Green Bay met up previously as well.

It tends to give those games a little more pagentry.

Um, no. Tradition counts for something.

Really? Wow! That is surprising to me.

Very well, to each his own.

You'll notice the NFL went out of the way to ensure that rivalries were maintained. The Cardinals had no natural enemies and so they were removed to create an all new NFC West. The four teams in the current NFC East all have been to Super Bowls.

Hey, hey, hey! Stop that!

Now you are thinking like a Niner fan.

You know, the type of fan that would love to have a division full of patsies so they can pad their individual and team stats, and receive a lot of false praise.

yes i was aware of previous meetings prior to the 90's, one of those was one of the greatest comeback ever, when Roger brought us back vs the 9ers, after thinking about it, it would take a very long time to build a rivarly close to those, and especially with the Saints.

The Niners STILL lose so they are really quite atrocious.

True, but the possibility is definately there though.

haha since the realignment, the 9ers have sucked, that realignment really helped the Seahawks more than anyone else, it took them out of the NFC West.

You mean it put them IN the NFC West, it relieved them from the AFC West where they would be second fiddle to San Diego and last year maybe to Denver as well.

Yeah, now Seattle reaps those benefits as well.

Considering that, the Hawks have four game-winning field goals this season to boot.

They don't scare me, especially if they come to Texas Stadium.

hmm interesting post. If both teams remain good for the next few years i could see the regular season contests coming down to whos lucky enough to have homefield advantage. That is the trouble with this huge "test" for the saints. It should be taken with a grain of salt since were on the road against a very good team.

Aw c'mon, don't start backpedaling, it's unseamly. I would argue that a "true" test would be beating a team on the road and NOT at home. There are plenty of teams in the NFL that win at home and lose on the road,,, when your team has truly made the next step is when they win the Away games. Besides, Texas Stadium isn't exactly Soldier or Lambeau field ya know!

You're right because Texas Stadium boasts a traditionally better team than Soldier or Lambeau.

I mean hey i think its going to be a great game, but the fact that our best offensive and defensive weapons wont play and were on the road makes this game more a referendum on the cowboys post season chances then ours.
