I don't want to move back in with my parents. I'm thinking of becoming an Air Force Officer. The bad thing is, I probably go to training and miss the whole season. The other bad thing, I sign 4 years of my life away. That means I get out when I'm 30. There just aren't many options out there. Any suggestions? You guys have been great with my computer issues (especially Kilyin. Thanks a lot, man.).

I graduated in 2001 and times were almost as bad then as they were now. I moved in with my sister and her two kids and worse, my mother was staying there at the time too.

I was actually headed to the Navy, I took the test and was scheduled to take the Officer's test a week later when an old college friend left his job and I got his job.

One thing you may want to look at is taking a lesser paying job that may be out of field of study until things pick back up. I had a hard time because they knew I would jump ship as soon as the economy picked up.

Gotta do what you gotta do.

I know. I've been applying for jobs at a rate of about 3 a day. I need enough money to pay rent, electricity, health insurance, auto insurance, and the rest. I've even applied for a factory job. I'm not giving up, but come 7/31 when I have to move out of the dorms I want to have something.

your fault for 1) graduating when you're 26 and 2) waiting until you're just about to graduate to start looking for a job

and 3) for not knowing how to format a computer

and 4) for not addressing Maikeru-sama as "Wise Latina"

LOL

1. Can't help graduating when I'm 26. I had financial issues.

2. I've been looking for a job for several months

3. Not that computer literate

4. Sorry

What did you major in?

Business Management and Administration

Everyone is now looking for experienced managers, and there should be plenty of them.

Management and Admin is the focus. I could have done general business.

Yep. This was my story too. Graduated in summer 2001, lost my university IT job when my project was cut, went to work for a local Merck lab on a database project, lost that job when the project was cut (that spanned about a year and 9 months, and all the while i had to live with my mom), and lucked out getting a job with the DoT (feds, not state) that a friend of mine had just vacated. It was crap, did that for a year and quit and sat around for 6 months and got a real job finally.

Just hang in there, something will open up eventually.

I started at Louisiana Tech University on Thursday, September 6, 2001. That Tuesday, on September 11, the attacks happened. So I started on a bad note and leave on bad note as well. Ironic, but that's life. I'll keep trying. I have until 7/31.

Don't feel pressed to go into the armed services, at least. If you aren't there already, you probably don't belong there. That's not the sort of thing you should just do as a backup.

On the one hand, your degree is fairly common and there's a lot of guys with BAs in Business Admin. On the other hand, that's a very versatile degree. Hell, I don't know if we are hiring right now (probably not, but hey, it couldnt hurt, right?) PM me. You'd probably have to move to either the Woodlands (north of Houston) or Atlanta, though.

Well, I'm not there because I've been in school. My dad owns a business and does well, but I doubt I have a position there. We've worked together plenty of times before, but it never quite worked out. I can try him again as a sales rep. He owns a roofing yard and is very slow. This time last year we worked together and I managed the warehouse and he had record sales (not because of me totally). Maybe if I tell him the military is my only other option he'll hire me again. My brother just graduated and is living with him now with no job.

Look in the insurance industry.

Agent, Adjuster, or Independent adjuster (storm chaser).

Have you considered Grad School? The added degree will matter when the economy rebounds.

Air Force is a great option though.

Hell, if he's going in as an officer its not a bad gig at all as long as he gets a decent job..(and can handle getting yelled at for other people's screw ups) The military was my second option as well and it has worked out well up to this point
