Right, I should not have referred to the roster limits as stupid rules because they certainly served a good purpose before free agency and the salary cap. Roster limits and "inactive" player desgnations were put in place to help control salaries and overhead costs and assure competitive balance on game day, but I think the today the salary cap already does that.

I agree with you.

I am not in favor of doing away with the draft. That would be catastophic (sp). The salary cap needs to be in place else salaries will get out of control. Teams like the Cowboys would have to pay significantly more then teams like say Miami or San Diego or really any team on the coast. If the money was the same, where would you play? In Dallas in 100 degree heat or in San Diego with bikini babes running all over the damn place? I do think that the cap and FA have hurt development of players. I don't think Europe really works. Teams get penalized for developing players only to have them leave 2 years down the road to another club. I also don't believe players should get cuts of marketing efforts or concessions or whatever else they can dream up. There paid well. Everybody makes money here. The only one's that get the short end of the stick are the fans who continuously have to pay more for tickets or pay per view or what have you. I would also like to see a clause put in place like the NBA has. They can sign long time vets, originally drafted by the parent club, without taking it in the shorts on the cap.
