What a cluster-mess!
In fairness, Wentz is the physically more talented player than Heinicki. Heinicki was playing very poorly in the previous game they had to win. He was benched, and Wentz played very well and helped them come back to win the game. That’s a situation where most coaches would not go back to the guy they pulled. I’m sure Rivera thought he was going with the hot hand. Going back to Heinicki 1 game after you benched him looks really weak. To me, if Rivera is fired, I’d fire him more for this than for last week. It shows he has no fricking clue and is backtracking his own decision after one weak. That’s a sign of weakness. Even if he wishes he hadn’t made that decision, he needs to act like he has a conviction.
