Word going around the net is that the Eagles medical staff discovered the fracture in CT scans earlier in the season and didnt tell Wentz about it because they needed him to keep playing. Wentz went outside the team and got a second opinion from another doctor who is not affiliated with the team and that doctor did the same scan, found the fracture, and then told Wentz about it. So the Eagles hid the injury from Wentz.

WOW:omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg::omg:……….a lot of people are going to get fired over this, starting with medical staff.

WOW, not only unethical but may be illegal

From the article, according to the source, Carson has had a fractured vertebrae since October and wasn't told about it until this week. Basically saying that they medical staff and front office knew, but didn't tell anyone. Could get interesting.

Not true. Complete lie.

If this is true and he wants out I hope he comes here to hang 30 losses on the Eagles in his last 15 year HOF career that delivers us 4 rings. Why Dak when you can Wentz?

Kawhi did this with the Spurs last year. Spurs doctors said he was good to go but he went outside and that doctor said differently. So he never played the rest of the year. And caused their breakup.

But I have not read that about the Eagles doctors hiding this injury. That would be all over the news if it was proven they did.
That's not entirely true. Kawhi and his Uncle/Agent didn't like the diagnosis and treatment plan prescribed in the offseason. Kawhi sought a second opinion and was under treatment for an outside source in August before the season started. Kawhi and his people were in charge of his treatment from August and throughout the missed season. The Spurs initially believed it would take longer to fully heal, Kawhi's group thought it wasn't as bad and should be able to come back sooner. The Spurs organization's medical staff was never allowed by Kawhi's people to consult directly with the second medical staff, only through his uncle/agent. The Spurs from the beginning told Kawhi it was up to him to tell them when he felt he was good enough to go. Kawhi didn't decide he felt good enough to play until, there was talk of shutting him down for the season and let him continue treatments and not risk his health. That's when he started playing cat and mouse about when he would start. He would tell the team he would play the next game, then game day would arrive and Kawhi would change his mind, that happened several times. Kawhi's uncle/agent used the situation to force his way out, because he wanted Kawhi playing for a bigger market with more marketing opportunities. The Spurs medical staff never could run full tests throughout the season and relied solely on what Uncle Dennis told them about the condition. The Spurs have a stellar rep when it comes to how they handle player's health and injuries and usually on the conservative side, down to managing minutes and holding players out longer after injuries. They didn't want to risk the franchise player and have shown that in the past. It was also never confirmed that the Spurs original diagnosis was incorrect, since they never allowed the team to view the other test results.

Here's a kicker, the medical staff that Kawhi did use was from Philly, many of which also consult for the 6ers and Eagles.

Agree...………dont see the medical staff hiding the injury own their own, they had to tell management about it. So the decision to not tell Wentz had to come from top, some low level trainer is not making this type of call on the franchise QB.

If the Eagles front office knew Wentz was hurt and went along with not telling him, they should be penalized draft picks.

The Eagles had just fired the head trainer and some of their medical staff right after the Superbowl, there are some that remain though. There have also been a few former Eagles player that have mentioned they didn't trust the Eagle's medical staff even before this Wentz situation.

One player was told he had a hip flexor injury, but upon second opinion, he learned he had a torn ACL. A player fractured a thumb, but the player was told that the "pop" he heard was likely just from scar tissue....... o_O One of their current WRs said that he had 2 bad diagnosis after seeking second opinions. It's not uncommon to seek second opinions, Tavon and Fredbeard both did. One was to confirm treatment and treatment options and Fredbeard it was a very uncommon condition, but not like misdiagnosing a ACL tear for a hip flexor. There's something up within the organization and their medical protocols, something seems fishy.

If this is true the league should declare him an unrestricted free agent immediately and let him escape the team that his major health issues from him.

If Wentz came to the cowboys. We wouldn’t know how happy Risen Star would be, because his keyboard would be too sticky to type anything.

But realistically, this isn’t going to happen. The eagles would be idiotic to give up on Wentz anytime soon, back injury or not. Wentz will probably be fine long term from this injury.

Maybe it's the city of Philadelphia. Eric Lindros who played for the Flyers said he was misled about the severity of his concussions by the Flyers medical staff.

That's a terrible idea. Wentz can't stay healthy and you want to pour in 35 million a year into a QB that isn't as good as the one we already have. Not only that you will lose the talent on the team because the money going to a soft and injury prone QB.

Dude can't stay healthy. He isn't dependable, at all. I much rather stay with Dak

Don't know if this has been posted but it doesn't look good for Wentz.

Given that this fracture was not detected with early scans, I fear a stress fracture could be the case here.

That is the only thing I can think of that explains the circumstances as we know them.

A stress fracture is difficult to detect, possible to play through and often shows up late on scans.

If this is the case, the worry is for the long term, and the Eagles will be strongly considering shutting him down.

I hope it is not a stress fracture. The most common is sponylolysis (stress fracture to the pars, part of the ring of the spinal canal). Healing for sponylolsis is sometimes tricky and slow.

For the record, there is no direct relationship between the ACL/LCL injuries Wentz suffered last season and the back fracture. But one could postulate an indirect link.

We have said all along that Wentz would not be 100 percent until late this season or even 2019. The injury could that have thrown off his throwing mechanics to cause extra back stress.

It’s possible, but we can't say for sure until we know what the spine issue actually is.

Let’s hope for minimal vertebral body fracture, as this heals reliably.

If it is a stress fracture, then this won’t be the last of the Wentz injury saga.

David Chao is a total quack. Been arrested for DUI, barred by two hospitals from doing surgery, investigated by the DEA, and sued by more than a dozen former patients. He gets stuff wrong all the time (like earlier this year with Xavier Rhodes of the Vikings who he thought would be out for the year with a hamstring injury he tried to diagnose over the TV).

That being said, Wentz in injury prone whether it's bad luck, his playing style or an underlying fragility.

You should add all his awful Jaylon Smith predictions.

you do realize that was like 22 years ago ??
not the same people at the games today.

Exactly, I’m sure good portion of those people are dead. Talk about using something extremely old to justify why you would drop your character. Why not just say we are trash because we tossed snowballs at santa so you can do it next week.

Not trying to start a fight just tired of hearing about two dog days that philly has had that somehow gets put on every eagles fan forever.

This is horrifying. This could have affected his quality of life after football. What a terrible thing to do to a person let along a football player who plays a violent game for a living.

Foles just won them a SB so it's not like they don't have a capable backup. When their doctors found that fracture they should have shut him down immediately.
