Wentz won't be there

Whatever I had to give up.

If I told you the Packers gave up future picks for Rodgers or the Panthers gave a bounty for Newton would you consider those bad investments?

I move up for the franchise QB. Who is infinitely more impactful to the team's future than any other player in this draft. You can have Ramsey, Bosa and Jack and I'll still take the franchise QB.

So "whatever" includes Romo?

If it came to that, yes. But it wouldn't. Tennessee would have zero interest in him.

You're not going to scare me off taking who I believe is an elite QB for the next decade so I can sit here with no QB and no chance in the very near future.

We're in position now. So I'm starting that search now. I'll worry about the spare parts once I have the QB. There are other picks and other years for that.

The only way I don't do this is if my scouting department thinks there isn't a franchise guy to be had. Which is highly unlikely.

Fair enough. You really believe in this guy. Id be completely shocked if he ends up here but we will see.

How much are you willing to give up to get him? Are we talking next years 1st?
And don't give me some "we need to be prepared to sacrifice a lamb and prepare the blood of 7 Virgins for the Messiah's arrival" answer.

I want to know how far you're actually ready to go to get the next Joe Montana.

If they legitimately believed that one of the top QBs was a future franchise QB, I would be willing to trade next years 1st to move up and get him. I would guess that next years 1st pick will much closer to this years 2nd pick than this years 1st if that makes sense. So, would I be willing to trade a Top 25 draft pick next year to secure the player I believe to be our future at QB? Hell yes I would be.

Now, the question is do they feel that strongly? I have no idea and only time will tell.

After what happened to the Commanders in the RG3 fiasco, I doubt any GM is trading up to get a QB anytime soon.

The problem is we don't have a crystal ball and don't know who is and who isn't a franchise QB.

What if Conner Cook turns out to be a franchise QB?

You could've fooled me. Apparently some around here know for certain Wentz is THE MAN.

You can only go by what your scouts say and not play the what if they're wrong game. If you have no faith and trust in the guys you employ to evaluate the talent why the heck are they on the payroll?

People make this way too complicated. We are in dire need of the next QB. We are in position now to get one in an area of the draft that is at least somewhat productive at producing them. If the scouts say the guy is there then get him and do not allow some bum team like the Browns to steal your future.

Done deal. Let's meet back on day 2 to work on the supporting cast. (disciples)

Now if you could excuse me, I'm installing some Carson of Bismarck stained glass on all my windows.

More certain than any other player in this draft that he's not even a man.

That's the thing with you short term, draft for need, let's deal with the most important and hardest position to find when we have nothing and we're desperate guys. You make special rules for the QB pick. Like he can't have any risk. Cause you know, no other positions bust. Yearly. Ramsey, Jack, Bosa, Tunsil...these guys are all sure things.

To be continued... I gotta busy weekend to get to.

Not sure what it is worth. However, I was just listening to some local Cleveland sports talk people and they were saying that the Browns are really high on Jared Goff. Will be interesting to see how things play out if they do end up taking Goff.

I keep hearing how great Wentz is, how awesome he is, how he's gonna change the world as we know it. So if he's THAT great, I'm certain that Cleveland and San Diego and a bunch of other teams willing to trade up, share your sentiments.

It's highly unlikely that we trade up from 4 for a backup to Romo.
so what is your alternative at the 4th pick?

Goff?
Ramsey?
Bosa?
Jack?
Trade back?

For the record, I really like Wentz, and I wish we could get him. But I don't believe that's a realistic option for us. so the idea of gushing over a QB that won't be a Cowboy is really annoying the hell out of me.

Who was last college QB with under 60% completion percentage that turned out to be a franchise QB?

Let's race, I'll look for the last quarterback from a North Dakota community college with barely 600 attempts that turned out to be a franchise QB, and whoever finds the answer first wins...

Here's a thought... Let's see how good y'all really believe he is, or how much you really believe he's worth....
Would you include Romo in a package to move up for Wentz?

Before you say no let's think about what we've heard about Wentz:
He's the best QB in the draft
Similar to Andrew Luck
As athletic as Cam Newton
Had one of the best pro days ever seen
He's a leader
He's NFL ready
He can make all of the throws
He picks up offenses effortlessly
He's worth a trade up
He's the Messiah (heard that one here)
He's a franchise QB
He can be our leader for the next 10+yrs

So you get ^^^^ all of this but have to trade Romo. What do you do?
a little reach there
He is the best QB in the draft according to most experts
He is somewhat physically similar to luck
Don't think anyone said he is as athletic as Newton but he is very athletic and a good runner
Everyone has good pro days and that's a very small part of the evaluation
Don't think he is nfl ready myself but don't think most qb's are
He can make all the throws
The offense is not hard to pick up, reading defenses is what's hard to pick up but that's why you develope them before you start them
Finally is he worth the trade up? I would hate to give up two first rnd picks on a team that needs so much. But at the same time the price is likely going to be much higher when tony does hang it up unless we have a one or two win season and if you wait till you need a QB then your forced to let him learn on the field which to me is the mistake many teams make with qb's
Trading romo is not a real option
I don't want to give up picks but at the same time the price may never be cheaper considering where we are starting from

Finally, it gets real; we go for need or long term success, etc. He won't be paid Luck or RG3 rookie contract money either;) Everything in life is a gamble.

I'm a fan of Wentz...like Goff as well. But I do have some reservations regarding both (like most any prospect really). That said, it wouldn't stop me from taking either if the team feels they're the long-term future of the franchise. Will delve into Wentz here given the thread.

- Wentz was 20-3 as a starter in 5 seasons at NDSU. He started the first 6 games prior to the wrist injury, losing 2 of them. The team went 8-0 with a redshirt freshman at QB in his absence in 2015.

- Prior to Wentz taking over, NDSU won 3 straight championships and complied a 43-2 record.

- Wentz averaged 194 yards passing per game as a Jr. & 206 passing yards per game as a Sr. He had (1) 300-yard passing game in his career at the FCS level. Part of that is that they seemingly prefer a balanced attack regardless of who is playing QB.

A comparison of the 2 QB's in 2015:

Carson Wentz: (7 games started), efficiency 152.3...completions (130) - attempts (208) - Int's (4)...comp% 62.5...1651 yards...17 TD's...Avg/G 206.4
Easton Stick: (8 games started), efficiency 150.3...completions (90) - attempts (147) - Int's (4)...comp% 61.2...1144 yards...13 TD's...Avg/G 104.0

Wentz rushing (7 games): 294 yards (4.7 ypc) & 6 TD's
Stick rushing (8 games): 498 yards (5.9 ypc) & 5 TD's

I'm not much into scripted pro days in T-shirts & shorts. I recall Kyle Boller impressing the Ravens by throwing a ball 50 yards from his knees. Countless prospects have missed just a couple of throws in their workouts, etc. Some acutually debated Manning & Leaf. By most accounts Bridgewater had a bad pro day...while Manziel & RGIII looked great. And so on.

What does impress me about Wentz is obviously his size, arm, & athleticism. His ability to retain & process information is also among his more impressive traits IMO...and a critical one. Thought his overall performance in the championship game after returning from injury was very good.
Also thought he handled the step up in competition pretty well at the Senior Bowl.

Ever gambled monopoly money at the tune of $20 million a year after the $4+ million for a 'rook' contract at that level?

That is no money for the futur QB of the team.
