Well, who didn't see this coming... like since the '08 offseason?

We all knew he'd be back.

He should. He's better than half the starting QBs in this league right now.

He'll be in a dome, playing for a playoff team, handing to Adrian Peterson. A lot better situation than NY.

Who cares. His body may still be in the league but his skills officially retired 8-10 years ago.

Don't the Jets still own his rights since they didn't release him? How can anyone from Minn meet with him without the Jets permission?

You must have slept thru December when he was awful.

Jet fans wish they have their 3rd round pick back. He wasn't worth it. Even if hadn't retired.

Jets released him.

If Minnesota traded with the Jets for Brett, the Jets would owe Green Bay draft picks.

If Brett said he would play, the Jets would have to take a cap hit, and have to cut players just so they can either cut him OR trade him.

Totally different situation in Minny. Dome, best running back in the game, good defense, and he plays the Pack twice.

He is a much better situation for them than Sage Rosenfels and Tavaris Jackson if I'm sitting in Brad Childress seat.

No they put him on their retired list. That's not releasing him.

I agree that Favre is better than Rosenfels and Jackson. That doesn't make him good.

The Jets did not have a Peterson quality type back, but they did have a good offensive line and strong running game. I agree that Minny is a better situation for Favre, but it is not a lot better than he had in NY. It is not go deep in the playoffs better.

Although it's really been over since January, Brett Favre's ballyhooed stint as a Jet came to an official end yesterday when the team released the Hall of Fame-bound quarterback from the reserve/retired list.

That means, should Favre decide he wants to play again, he is no longer the Jets' property and is free to sign with any team.

Jets release Favre

Florham Park, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Jets released quarterback Brett Favre from their reserve/retired list on Tuesday, meaning he's a free agent, although the future Hall of Famer doesn't plan on coming out of retirement.

On February 11, Favre announced his retirement for the second time, The move by the Jets on Tuesday means the team will not get any compensation if Favre signs elsewhere.

The 39-year-old Favre announced his retirement in March 2008, but then had a change of heart last summer and was traded to the Jets. The three-time MVP helped the Jets to an 8-3 start, but Favre and the team stumbled over the final five games. The Jets finished the campaign with just one win to conclude the season at 9-7, missing the playoffs.

Favre's struggles mirrored those of the team, as he threw just two touchdown passes and was intercepted nine times in those last five games. It was revealed after the season that Favre was playing with a torn right biceps.

I stand corrected. I hadn't seen that.

Minny had a chance to beat Philly with Tavaris managing a JV offense.

Favre made the Jets a contender again, they were 8-3 at one point last year.

I know in a league where Campbell, Russell, Hassellbeck, Bulger, Garrard, S. Hill, Culpepper, Edwards, and Orton are starters. There has got to be work for even a 56 year old Brett Favre.

Favre released by Jets but says he has no intention of NFL return

Associated Press

NEW YORK -- The New York Jets released Brett Favre from the reserve-retired list Tuesday night, making the quarterback a free agent if he decides to again come out of retirement.

When Favre was dealt to New York from Green Bay in August, there were trade conditions that required the Packers to be compensated if the Jets moved the three-time NFL MVP. Those no longer apply if he signs elsewhere.

Favre, who spent one disappointing season with New York, had requested the move several weeks ago through his agent, Bus Cook, but insisted he has no plans to come out of retirement for a 19th season.

"Nothing has changed," Favre said in a statement. "At this time, I am retired and have no intention of returning to football."

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum also said Favre hadn't indicated to him any desire to come back.

That, of course, won't stop any of the likely speculation that Favre, 39, could end up with any number of teams, especially if the torn biceps tendon that hampered him for much of last season has healed.

After 16 seasons with the Packers, Favre had a tearful retirement in March 2008, but he decided to return to football a few months later. The Packers already had moved forward, anointing Aaron Rodgers the starter as a bitter falling out with Favre ensued.

The Packers traded Favre to the Jets, injecting excitement into a franchise that hasn't been to a Super Bowl since 1969. Things started off promising as Favre played well and the Jets took over first place in the AFC East, with a playoff run in their sights. But Favre struggled down the stretch with the arm injury as the Jets finished 1-4 and failed to make the playoffs, costing coach Eric Mangini his job.

Favre announced his retirement on Feb. 11, saying he was done with football -- this time for real.

The Jets were aggressive in the 2009 NFL Draft in seeking a new franchise quarterback, trading up to select USC's Mark Sanchez with the No. 5 overall pick.

Favre and Childress are like Prince Charles and Camilla.

Flirting all these years and now they're free to be together.
