Cowboys run game and OL are better, however, as ABQCowboy indicated, the delta isn't that big. Couple of points:
  • Packer's ran the ball for more yards and a higher average yards per carry than the Cowboys over the last 8 games of the season
  • All 5 of the Packers starting OL either received All-Pro votes or were named Pro-Bowlers or Pro-bowl alternates. While that doesn't equal the two first team All-Pros (and the 2nd teamer in Frederick) the Cowboys have the fact that all 5 Packers offensive linemen got recognition tells you that it's also a very good OL.

Dallas comes in at the top of the pack for playoff teams. Green Bay sits down at number six. Significant?

That is on quality of each team's offensive line. Now, think that a broken hand might affect how the total yardage accumulated for Demarcos Murray?

Yes but their line handled Detroits DL much better than the Dallas OL did. At this time of year stuff like that has little bearing on the game that is to be played Sunday.

An unseen before, high intensity of blitzes by Detroit might influence that snappie...

49ers, Tenn., NO, Texans, Skins (twice), Az, Philly (twice) and the Colts. We are 6-4 against 34 teams this season, thus far.

Honestly, the only team that I feel as if we really got beat by was Philly the 1st time around.

49ers, Romo was not ready.
Skins, Romo was injured and I honestly believe we win that game if Weeden finishes.
Az, Romo was out for that game.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Green Bay plays us defensively. They can go 34 or 43 with the personnel they have on their base D. Often, they line up in a 34 set and shift into a 43. Aside from the weather, this is really my biggest concern. How will our young OL react to what Capers throws at them? We are very, very good when we can understand what a team is doing to us and how to execute against what the Defense is doing but we have problems when we don't understand what we are seeing. This is why we've gotten behind in games and managed to come back in the 2nd have. We have had issues, at times, understanding what Defenses were doing to us and made adjustments in the 2nd half to compensate. This OL is very, very good when they understand what they need to do. They go out and execute if they understand. Green Bay is going to try and take full advantage of this. We will need to do a very good job of getting our young OL ready for what they will see ahead of time because if we get down two or three scores in the 1st half against Green Bay, we will not be able to come back on them in the 2nd half. Their Offense is too good for that and they do have a running game that can close you out if they get ahead. Very key in this game to have good preparation.

Another way to state the same stats is that during the 2014 regular season, the Cowboys win 60% of the time against 3-4 teams and 100% of the time against 4-3 teams.

Detroit tried to sneak in with a ton of blitzes, going against the norm. Think Green Bay suites up their defense with a 3-4 dominant look?

Green Bay is a master of the quick pass (usually a slant route). Often times the ball is out of Rodgers hands the instant the shotgun snaps gets to him. That make it impossible to get a pass rush going against those type of throws.

I think Demarco's broken hand definitely affected him down the stretch.

My point is that I think it would be a mistake for the Cowboys to assume the GB running game isn't going to hurt them. In fact, IMHO, I believe stopping Lacy with 6 guys is the #1 most important thing the Cowboys defense MUST accomplish on Sunday.

This is one area that Barry Church helps out a lot, and Carter in a package situation.

THIS would be an opportune time to go some no huddle....some quick counts. Great time to NOT go up to the LOS and let the play clock get to :00

They didn't blitz at all though. Most of the sacks can be attributed to Romo holding the ball too long.

They play games with Peppers and either Hawk or Matthews or both. Green Bay will line up in a 34 set and then bring Peppers up to the LOS and play him as the DE. They will use Hawk and Peppers to alternate or twist or they will overload with Matthews and send them all or use Peppers and Hawk and then delay to the other side with Matthews on the Blitz. They will also show 43 and then drop Peppers back into coverage using a zone blitz with the LBs. They do lots of creative stuff with their personnel. Peppers makes it all work because of his size.

This is pretty much stock approach for an aggressive 3-4. Its nothing exotic or even all that creative.

Hopefully we can establish the run and when we do pass Romo can't hold the ball all day. Get out of the pocket so throwing it away is an option.
Yes to establish the run. But, you can correct as you saw game on TV as I was there, did the Lions cut off the outside moves with the way they rushed Romo?
I felt the Lion pass rush stayed in line most times and did not give Romo an escape route outside.
He worked some inside magic to extend a few plays.
I think the Packers will delay rush some LB's to help them out.

i foresee a few 3 and outs to start the game or at least a similar start to the Lions game

once Romo and crew get a good feel for what they're doing i expect to see the scoreboard start lighting up.

i forgot where i saw it (post game presser maybe?) Romo was alluding to how it just took them time to get a feel for what Detroit was trying to do, but once they did it just became a lot easier

Problem is, and this is what happens to alot of folks against GB.... Take too long to adjust and the game is out of reach.

If we start like the Lions game we will get rocked. Just run the ball right at them and ride Murray.

Interesting points, but Romo holds the ball too long at times making it easier for a D-Line.

If this happens again we are dead in the water
Pack are not letting us come back like the lions

We better start fast

Cold weather favors Dallas and it's running game over Green Bay's...the Dallas offensive line is better than theirs..

Maybe with a normal team, but I don't think there is much evidence Aaron Rodgers or GB has a passing game problem in cold weather. Especially with no snow or wind to speak of as is forecast.

That said, it definitely comes down to our Oline. If we can't run effectively and keep him off the field I'm not in love with our chances.
