That's why I can't be 100 percent excited about this squad. Garrett is pitiful. Anybody still a fan of his is a lost cause at this point.
No. I have to take offense to the pitiful comment. I was one of the biggest Garrett critics when he was OC. It's in the history books. Plenty of my anti-Garrett propaganda is spread about this forum. Just look 8-10 years back. I was like your last post but on steroids.

There was so much more pitiful coaching this year. He was actually very good in organizing, leading, and inspirating his guys. That what he's supposed to do. I see his playoff performance only improving from here forward.

So the "I am a better fan than you" theory? You know what else is laughable? "Fans" who accept mediocrity and think that one season somehow means their head coach is awesome.

Congrats on him winning COY. But he has one playoff win in 6 seasons and if this team doesn't do any better next year, only a fool would sit there and suggest he's a great coach.
The National Football League Coach of the Year Award is presented annually by various news and sports organizations to the NFL head coach who has done the most outstanding job of working with the talent he has at his disposal. Currently, the most widely recognized award is presented by the Associated Press (AP). First presented in 1957, the AP award did not include American Football League teams. The Sporting News has given a pro football Coach of the Year award since 1947 and in 1949 gave its award to a non-NFL coach, Paul Brown of the AAFC's Cleveland Browns. In many years (1954, 1957–1960, 1962), TSN did not give an award; the awards it gave in the 1960s were to NFL coaches only, and since the AFL–NFL merger in 1970, it has called the award the "NFL Coach of the Year." Other NFL Coach of the Year awards are presented by Pro Football Weekly-Pro Football Writers of America and the Maxwell Football Club.

Anyway Im with these fools who voted for Red.
IMO I have always said he'll grow into his position and he is. Do we wish it was faster, yes.
My mantra for the last five years has been Red will not be fired. JJones see progress and
his giving him [Red] the rope. All the signs are on the wall.

Mr. Excuses himself saying it's a no excuse facility...

That being said it's a regular season award.. so who cares..

We all know he was basically demoted from what was supposedly his expertise and that was OC and Jerry basically said he was a walk-around coach..
yeah when it is given out before the sb or playoffs are over, it is not much of an award, I think bellichek now is coach of the year,
no gronk, and a team with no names, just won the SB in OT in a classic comeback.

Last night, I'm more convinced than ever Brady would not win without Bellichek. The last two SBs, of one actually paid attention, it was half-time adjustments that made the team win. The guy prepares the team so well. You can tell how they adjust defensively after halfs.

His defenses always clamp down the second half. And his offenses find the weaknesses and start exploiting them.

Only true coaches like Wade Phillips as a D.C. can beat him in the playoffs.

I'm beginning to realize most coaches are idiots among idiots.

it better improve. Why am I warning people on this site about Rodgers trying to catch us with 12 men and the coach not ready for it? He got us in the first quarter. It's all one big joke dude. Then we wasted a timeout because he almost caught us again. :lmao: That falls on one man and one man only and it ain't Rod marenelli

At least I don't have to hear that drivel about how Garrett would not be able to find job outside of Dallas anymore.

It's one thing to stand by your initial impression; the thing that always gets me is that it never enters most naysayer's minds that they might be wrong.

true, but they are a good team, and have been together a long time.
you could reverse it and say bill couldnt win without tom.

most coaches are idiots among idiots...... yes I started seeing that a few years ago, they know the x's and o's but lack common sense
innovation, attn to details, or many other things.
They are all prone to do dumb things at critical times.
NE made some errors in that game too, they just did better late in game.

Think of it this way. If you owned 1 of 12 teams equal team which were all going to the playoffs and you had the opportunity to pick any HC to pick his own staff and prepare your team for a playoff run. Would JG be in your top 5? top 10?

So you were against Garrett 8 years back and after 8 more years of bad coaching and getting nothing accomplished with consistent top 10 QB play you have changed your mind and support Garrett?

Yep, that makes total sense

So when does the "growth" part end? At what point can we expect postseason results?

Year 10?

Is it wrong to expect that in Year 7, he'll do better than just make the playoffs and spit the bit and get bounced after one game?

Lovie Smith has won the award. He's not a great coach by any stretch. Marvin Lewis won the award too. Actually, Garrett might be our own version of Lewis. Nice regular season results, fail in the playoffs. I am not interested in repeating the Bengals' mistakes. It's ut up or shut up time for Garrett.

The thing with Bellichek, is if you notice, the half-time adjustments aren't just on offense, they are on DEFENSE, meaning the side of the ball Tom has no control over. Bill also went to 11-5 with no free agency at Cleveland, improving every year in an era of free agency, before the owner decided to move the team mid-season the next year.

Tom Landry won the award for Coach of the Year....then Jimmy Johnson has won Coach of the Year, and now Jason Garrett has won the award for Dallas. But the catch is, one has to win on a high level to receive it.

Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson made improvements every year and stayed on top when they did. Garrett has been consistent in mediocrity and blowing chances at the playoffs 3 years in a row, against NFC East opponents that were absolute garbage the year before. The exact second they removed him completely away from the OC duties, they made the playoffs. Hell, forget even the fact that another guy Garrett feared and sabotaged, Bill Callahan built the OL and running game here and they lucked into him, while Jerry and Jason were trying to get Sparano back to 'reproduce' the 2007 season, but he took the Jets job.

People should be HOT we wasted the best years of Romo with this clown and here they are basking in a Coach of the year award for basically nothing he really did except clap...

How long was it before Murchisan gave Landry the vote of confidence contract and Dallas, THEN became entrenched with winning and playoffs? Five years? Well Garrett has had 12 and 13 win seasons in two of the past three seasons.

Then there being the best percentage of talent drafted over the past 10 years, belonging to the Dallas Cowboys. Something else is being indicated, but one also can't discount having to completely rebuild an offensive line and get the cap cash flow back in order as well...

YOU say Garrett killed talent...now prove it with facts and players. One doesn't just present an agenda and appear to have done more than an agenda.

He killed Romo... that is enough right there... He killed Dez for years... he tried to force his pet-projects brother Kevin Ogletree into the offense as WR.... He drafted TE after TE...

CC it isnt 1966, and you can but it is senseless to compare things today to things in the 60's.
If you want to compare JG to another coach. do it with one at least in this century! lol
Preferably to other coaches in the last 10 years maybe 15.
See what you can come up with doing that.

the 2 winning seasons out of 3 is cherry picking to make your guy look good.
you have to look at his whole body of work, as OC and asst HC, and then as HC.

Unlike many new coaches, he had Romo, a top QB, and usually a good RB. and some good teams.
He has made some glaring coaching gaffs, that cost team games, and the playoffs in the 8-8 years.

He has gotten better, but is still lacking.
I think now he is learning about playoffs, and that could take awhile.
