Some of my favorite all-time NFL plays have involved defensive teams scoring on a fumble or interception return that included a lateral.

The Vikings had one back in the early 1970's, it happened during a snow game, and it was blind lateral. A thing of beauty. I'm sure some of the long term NFL fans here remember the play.

So when I watched the Jenkins-T-New attempt, I cut Jenkins some slack for thinking aggressively and going for a knockout play.

But if Wade constantly hammers it into the players' heads not to do this sort of thing, #21 and #41 truly had no business trying to do what they tried to do.

The Music City lateral against Phillips' Bills in the Playoffs is one of the best plays in NFL playoff history. Some times laterals are good.

There are way more things that can happen negatively on a lateral than positively.

The reason Jenkins was going to lateral the ball in the first place is because he was being tackled. So to toss the ball in the air when you are surrounded by defenders is just plain stupid. The ball can get knocked out of your hand, a defender can reach in and swat the ball out, the guy you are lateraling to can drop it or have it deflect off his hands, or he could get hit and fumble as well.

Deion used to pull this crap all the time when he was here, and I remember us losing a couple of those laterals in the process. Its just not worth it when you have a top 5 offense.

It is one thing to do an uncontested lateral to a teammate who is a much better open field runner. However, I don't believe non-football handling players should be doing laterals under duress.
