Iving is an addict. That's not quitting on the team. He's simply addicted to that crap. Now that the league has approved not suspending for marijuana use, he could do both at the same time while being productive on the field for cheap. Why would you give up on that but pay for an old "has been" who will not give you the production on the field Irving could? Makes no sense.
 
As much as Suh and Harrison are intriguing options their comp level is not likely worth the production. Interior players are easier to find in the draft than pass rushers so rather draft a 1tech/nose.

wish him well on a personal level. But is he able to fulfill his workload for the team???? I just don't think he can be trusted long-term. MAYBE on a trial basis, short term. No promises.
 
I think that ship has sailed on Irving. Time to move forward in the present.

Agreed. That's all I'm saying. Put him on the 90 man roster and see how he performs and practices during training camp and preseason. If there is any signs of trouble or disinterest, cut his arse and move on for good before the season starts.

While I disagree with the concept that he's "addicted" to weed, I think he can use it without it negatively affecting his performance on the field.......unless he plays while he's high.

If you were an employer would you want to give a person who gets high a million dollar contract? Would you want them hung over or high at work and in meetings?

Irving ain't coming back and producing IMO. That dude is so far away from wanting to play football, he may as well just stick to his current gig.
 
He played well last year. I’d take him. Suh and McCoy would be a huge upgrade from last year. Give him a 1 year deal. He seems to like them.

Hung over? You've clearly never smoked a joint. The only effects of weed occur while a person is high. I'm sure the team has rules in place about not being high during meetings, practices, or games, (just as they would with alcohol) and even if they don't I know plenty of people (my brother for example) who function just as well while stoned.
 
Guys, Suh played for 9.2 mil last year. We do not have the cap to be spending that kind of money on a DT. That could buy us two effective rotational DTs and really, that's what we need. We don't need a name guy. We need McCoy, Woods and two other DTs to be able to come in and give good productive minutes. Hill needs to get his stuff together and decide if he wants to play football or not and we're done.
 
Yeah, not feeling Suh. I'd rather try to get Harrison or Mike Daniels on really cheap deals and then maybe find a big, fat, run stopping dude in the draft like Fotu.

Hasn't he been with about 4 teams in 5 years going back to the Vikes?

Something is up.

Either the defenses do not fit him..

or the coaches do not fit him..

or he is not coachable and therefore expendable.

Is he a run stopper or a pass rusher?

Every down player or 1-2 down player?

Check the bucket list off and you tell me.

I say if he is only a specialty player, base salary of about $8 mil with another $2-4 mil for makeable incentives.

We have to pay another player to take up the slack where he is not on the field.

Suh is not a rah rah guy who leads the pregame huddle. He has to be abusing people b\w the lines.

I would ask him in for a look.

Ask him where he sees himself as a player and what will he bring to the team personally.

If that goes well..send him to Stephen's office and have Will Clay sit in to discuss terms for a contract. Have comparables to show him for what other players are making with his similar skills.

Tell him you have a couple of other guys coming in and they would like a desicion within 48 hrs so the parties know how to proceed.

Send his hotel bill to the FO and Dallas will cover his expenses to meet with them.

Easy peasey.

They extended Gregory last year.
They kept Brent after the dui/ death of teammate.

The NFL is full of examples of teams willing to sign players that smoked weed or drank if they thought they could help the team in some way.

He still quit on his team. We may have sympathy for his situation, but that doesn't remove what he did.
I may be an alcoholic and waste my money on booze as opposed to paying the light, gas and water bills and providing food for my family, resulting in my wife and children starving and being evicted from our home. I may need medical, psychiatric and psychological help and intervention because I've arrived at a point where I can't help myself. Still, I let my family down.

I think that's the proper perspective because it acknowledges issues beyond one's control but holds him/her accountable at the same time.
David Irving did something in his life that made him turn to drugs, in particular, smoking pot. At that point, he had the ability to choose or not choose. He chose to smoke pot. Whatever occurred beyond that point may have sent his life spiraling out of control to a point where he is no longer in control of his life.
But if he ever wishes to get help or acknowledge the cost of what his addiction now has wrought, he has to take personal responsibility for it.
That's how he or anyone else in a similar situation is EVER going to change.
