I hear your point, but still think it's best to see both sides (usually same end game) and filter for yourself (only to still be left ignorant; I know, the whole point:D). But you are totally correct in the agenda (both sides) when reporting news worthy material to give us the facts to pacify/energize. National leading story/headline = something occurring in the world is deemed to need less attention to facilitate/create/or terminate.

So how much punishment does the guy deserve?

Is 6 months returning as anchor enough of a ding, or should it be career altering?

I feel it should be career altering.

With all the things truly wrong in the world today, a dude lying on tv is hardly noteworthy unless someone needs it to be.

It's not really punishment. He just destroyed his own credibility permanently. It'd be like a hand-model losing a finger. You can't come back from it. The 6 months is just to save some face for both him and the network while they scramble to replace him.

Depends on how much this does to his reputation and if anything else comes out about him.

Depends on the ratings for NBC Nightly News.

6 months can be a long time. To either forget about what happened and carry on or make it obvious the change was for the better.

This is not a, "Well, everybody does it" type story. Brian Williams is the face of NBC Nightly News and not just Joe Blow doing the local media circuit in Podunk town, USA. The consequences for his actions should absolutely be as harsh as they are.

Thats sort of a funny view.

As individuals we pick and choose who we want to "pay" for certain things? What's a Big deal or not? Depends who they are? How you or how society views them? What the popular opinion, some jump on....

I disagree with "the key" .... The key is that they are closer to tabloid stories than they are real news.

Which brings me go agree with "they should be giving the public both sides" ....there's no juice in that.

Well, I'm just looking at it from a professional standpoint. As a journalist, there's not many more places for him to go professionally. He'd reached the pinnacle of success professionally...and his success was based purely on his ability to report the news in a credible manner. He's been in the business a long time and an incident like this could make a bunch of people start questioning other stories he's reported. Six months may or may not have been too long, but what I do believe is they had to take him off the air.

Personally, I do not see how anyone could ever take him seriously again. You are correct that he reached the pinnacle of his profession but he blew it.

I think it depends on what he does in the interim. If he slinks off to some hole somewhere, then I think he really did blow it. If he has the leeway in his contract, then I think he should use this time to go on an apology tour. Do some "exclusive" interviews with like-status journalists, maybe even do an interview with Jimmy Fallon and rebuild his image. It's not irreparable.

What's funny is I kept seeing him in commercials promoting his new show? His delivery, before this happened, just felt like BS.... He was trying to come off new and improved and genuine and keeping with the times.... And I just kept thinking... Sounds like bs... Lol

You could be right but I just don't see how he could ever get back to what he was. I know I will never trust him to tell the truth. If he makes a comeback, I think he would have to do it as a host of a show that interviews people rather than a news anchor. He is a pretty good interviewer and would have to make sure that he keeps any personal commentary about things he has done in his life out of it to achieve success.

I cannot figure out why he'd be that dumb!

I agree the media has become no better than the National Enquirer a group the new media looked down on at one time now they are the same. People in the media also continue to make themselves part of the story to create their own fame and new stories are often tilted to make the view think as they do on a given topic. However I think if you want change the change comes from the public by holding them accountable and calling them out
