What about Kyler Murray?

How come these other teams can seem to move away from big contract failed QB's like Goff and Wentz but it's always we are stuck with what we have?
In theory you can, but you have two issues....One is simply that Daks deal was very backloaded from the beginning and they've continued to restructure to push more and more money into the back end. Get rid of Dak of Dak and you either pay $60+M right away or split that up and you pay $35+M in 2025 when he isnt even under contract. The second issues is that you could technically pull it off, but you probably have to sacrifice someone else to take on both Dak & Kylers numbers. Is the gamble on Murray worth risking not being able to afford a Lamb or Parsons?

What if Arizona decides it's time to move on from Kyler?

His mobility and ability to make plays makes him one of the few if not only QB's I can think of that might be attainable and who might actually mesh with our offensive strengths & weaknesses.

I know Kyler has apparently been less than dedicated ..... but sometimes a wake up call like getting traded can get a guy going.

I don't know about the financial ramifications but I can't imagine them to be too severe IF you truly can get a QB with experience and the skills to help your other players thrive.
The Cowboys wouldn’t get any further with Kyler Murray than Arizona has. He’s not a very productive passer, and his QB record is 6 games under 500. He has no leadership skills. He’s only led the Cardinals to the playoffs once and had one of the worst playoff performances I’ve ever seen by a QB. The only thing he’s really good at is running around. If the Cowboys are going to become a championship team, they need a QB they can pass the ball efficiently. Murray isn’t the answer.

Don't see any way its possible that you could take on Kyler's contract and still have the cap hit from Dak the next two years.
The Cowboys can't. It's that simple. They would have to let players go and the team wouldn't be near as good.

Sure, why not?

But the contract issues would make it impossible for both teams probably.

I'd kick the tires on Sam Darnold, too. He's never been on a good roster.

Dallas already traded for a QB, his name is Trey Lance....

As always @thunderpimp91, great comments.

It would certainly be a gamble, but at this point whatever you do is a gamble. Trying to draft & develop a QB or develop Lane means we should offload part of the roster anyway because we are giving up on this window. Only option that I see to at least try to make this window work is to acquire someone with some talent & experience. That was the basis for my post.

The Rams had to give the Lions an additional 1st round draft choice in the deal just to make Goff’s contract palatable to Detroit. And Wentz’s contract was nowhere near as much as Dak’s and the Eagles did not give Wentz a no trade deal. No one wants Dak’s monster deal, the Cowboys are not giving a team a first round pick to entice a team to take it on, and Dak does have a no trade clause in his contract. He’ll be signed to an extension and be paid more than Hurts. Just wait and see.

Yeah and that's fair. If you move on from Dak your realistic options for this year are probably the rejuvenation projects or current backups.... Darnold/Minshew/Lance type of players. I just don't see how you make it work at all to bring in a large contract without making some serious sacrifices.

Ideas are great but this isn’t fantasy football. Reality is that you are right. It’s not as simple as some fans think
Whether you think he’s an upgrade or not aside the math won’t work

Like I said, you would be hoping for an improved version. But man, imagining him kill people with his legs and buying time to make plays downfield is really intriguing since we have a lot of things going for us on the current roster.
I just don't see it. He hasn't been all that great. Been hurt for a long time. Questionable character. I think this team needs that like they need a hole in the head.
