What about the Oline??

We have a line that CAN'T block between the 20's. Even when Barber gets some carries between the 20's he's not as effetive as he is when we are closer to the o-line. All line's run-block better closer to the goal line. Ours does NOT run-block good outside of the 20. Go and look at the tape.

Jimz this offense will be #2 in scoring by the end of tomorrow... #2... not #12 or #22 or #32... but number #2.

You aren't going to achieve that by having an o-line that "stinks" like many are proclaiming within this thread.

And Jimz-- the guys on the other team get paid too! And as amazing as it seems they will make plays on occasion. ;)

I disagree with that Jimz.

I see one back out there finding holes and making yards.

I see another out there that doesn't move to the hole and instead consistently finds "the pile" and like a "body magnet" launches himself into it and falls down.

Mikey, is your assessment of JJ really that harsh?

This is Eddie George verbiage!

Go back and look at how many more times we are passing as opposed to running the ball now.

It is decidedly going in favor of the pass....NOT the run. BP sees that this o-line is NOT blocking well. Alot of our running per game is happening close to the goal line as well.

Don't believe me....go look at the tapes. I've recorded every game that has been on t.v. for the last 4 years and I've rewatched alot of them this year just watching the o-line.

Let's not start any Proctor or McQ threads either. They're nothing but 2nd and 3rd stringers.
And we know this because???????

Hey, I have no problems covering our rears. But I think there are more pressing issues at this point (draft wise). NT, WR depth and Corner is starting to be a pressing issue for me. Not too mention another pass rusher seems necessary.

I could see us drafting a QB in day 2... but not day 1.

And I agree another O-lineman after round 1 would be find by me.
That sounds like a great plan Michael. I've been on the CB bandwagon for a long long time. Now people are starting to see why. We have no depth at NT unless Stanley can step up (something I do not expect) and I don't think Crayton or Hurd will more than a #3.

I actually think that Crayton and Hurd can step up quite nicely to be more than a #3. Right now, they are behind a couple of guys named Glenn and Owens, so they HAVE to be relegated behind them. But I have seen NOTHING that would say that they couldn't be more than a #3.

Unless a big time WR drops to us I do not see us drafting one this coming year. We do need to look at getting a speed burner to replace Glenn; possession and big WR prospects we have in our young guys; we do not have a young burner. BUT they can be had lower in the draft.

the tackles are fine. the problem is with Rivera at RG. Unfortunately we have no one to replace him with.

But Jimz you're looking at the Cowboys from only one perspective-- It's just you looking at the Cowboys' offensive line and NOT looking at EVERY offensive line in the NFL. And really THAT's what you need to compare this line too.

And right now this o-line has given the Cowboys the 12th best average yards per carry in NFL... they are 10th in rushing yards per game... they are 2nd in rushing TD's.

I honestly don't see how you or anyone else can justify the "o-line stinks in the running game" type statements. Again for you to make a "blanket" and quite frankly, a more well informed opinion of the Cowboys' o-line you need to study each and every offensive line in the league. The Cowboy o-line does not operate in a vacuum. It needs to be judged by comparing it to its peers and not some sort of imaginary standard that you've dreamed up.

The O line needs to be judged by what we need it to do to win games. Right now they are not doing very well as regards running the ball between the 20's. We will need to do better in the playoffs.

yikes,,, I see it much differently than that. It's the o-line's atrocious play that has made a mobile QB and an RB that can break 3 tackles before he gets to the line of scrimmage a MUST. We're lucky to have Romo and MBIII, but I'm already "rueing the day" this team meets up with a real defense!

thankfully the main problems are pretty evident, though replacing them isn't as easy as going down to the Texaco on the corner. Adios and thanks for the tease Rivera,,, and Hold On Flozell, help is on the way(we hope).

I understand what you are saying.

Besides, if we are so poor at running the ball with Julius, then why is he the one getting the bulk of the carries, yet we are ranked #12?

My point is that JJ is not as bad as most are thinking.

Try paying attention to the difference in blocking when the o-line is between the 20's. Our o-line is NOT as good at run-blocking as the #12 ranking states. Look at that 10 yard run by JJ last night....there was absolutely NOTHING there for him on that sweep, yet he cut it over and gained yards.

We were actually running the ball better with the non-mobile Bledsoe back there...

Argh...put him back in! ;)

I really like Derrick Dockery from the Commanders. As big as he is, he is very nimble on his feet. He just needs to limit his false starts. A BP tyoe player since he can play both Tackle and Guard. I could easily see him being brought in through FA to replace Rivera and Dallas spending a high draft pick on a LT. Even if Adams plays better next year (which is a real possibility), Dallas will eventually need a new LT. Resigning Gurode and Colombo must absolutely happen.

no threads about the OL because no matter how many threads we start BP will always have an inferior OL! Much like the pass rus... Much like the FS position... The DCordinator... punt returner...Starting QB up until about 2 months ago...

I'm one of those guys that posted all last year and summer about the o-line being weak and how BP has done nothing to improve it. I have to say there has been some improvement--certainly Gurode has been doing well (much better then seeing Al J. 10 yards in the backfield each snap). Columbo is improving and I like his nastiness and as much as everyone cracks on Flo, take him away and the whole thing crumbles. Kosier is not as strong as LA but does have mobility and does not give up on plays. That being said, the o-line is still a weak point (notice how any d-line with size gives us trouble--Rivera especially gets thrown everywhere). In the end, they have been doing better but it is still a weak point (like FS and Ellis-less pass rush). Romo has helped but we can be a lot better with an upgrade on the line.
