What Are The Chances That Extension Talks With Dak Go Bad?

Yeah, at this point I think he'll take whatever they offer with his playoff losses and inconsistent play. I just really hope Dallas can get the no trade clause out of the contract in a restructure even if they need to pay a bit more. I'm sure they could get the Jets or Texans or someone to bite in 2024-2025 or so.
Dak's agents will be expecting $50 million/year minimum for the extension. There is a reason Dak wanted a 4 year contract. Cap goes up a lot after the 4 years are up. Dallas will be drafting a quarterback in the upcoming draft. Extension won't occur until 2023 off season. Hopefully, Dallas gets lucky with who they draft, Dak wants $50 mill minimum, and Dallas moves on.

They should have Dak play out the year anyway.

Dak and Zeke have had parallel careers, having their best seasons as rookies. This year was probably the worst season for both. Certainly for Zeke.

Dak has a greater chance to rebound, but he only squeezed into a Pro Bowl once since his rookie season and really hasn't been the same since the injury. Signing an average QB to "the going rate" is the recipe for going nowhere in the NFL.

I wouldn't extend him now, no way, no how — got to see a better season than the last two to even think about it.

First off pointing to 1 game against a one-dimensional 8-9 TB team that barely made the playoffs while overlooking Dak's career and league-high INT's in spite of missing 5 games speaks volumes.

Secondly, you claiming Dak has contributed to winning 25 games the past 2 years (which of course you factor in the regular and post-season) is inaccurate given Dak has missed 6 games the past 2 years therefore the actual QB record breaks down as follows for the last 2 years: Dak 20-11(.645 win %) Rush 5-1 (.833 win %).

Lastly, you left out the last 3 years wherein Dak's record has been 22-13 (regular season and post-season) while missing 17 games.

So, you aren't paying a guy $40M AAV with a 2023 cap hit of $49.13M (currently ranking 2nd for all 2023 QB's) for 1 playoff game against a sub-par team but rather a QB that has compiled a 22-13 record (.629 win %) the last 3 years but also one that has missed 17 out of a possible 53 games (32.1% of games missed) and that led the league in INT's for 2022 in spite of missing 5 games.

I know I sound like a broken record, but:

Offer Dak a 7-10 year deal at $40MM/yr. That would give us the space to put the right players around him every year (see 2016 Dak or ‘22 Purdy). If he wants max money, move off of him. Teams that let the QB eat up the cap don’t win titles, period. If Dak cares about winning, he’ll take the deal. If he doesn’t, let’s find someone who does.

No more tags, no more big contacts.

LOL.......really now you want 10 more years of inept Prescott????
Then they blame Jerry with fans like you we deserve every ounce of pain that is served to us!!!!

Not that I want an extension done in the least but rather figure out how to not change Dak's contract this season and allow yourself the opportunity to move on after this season if he flounders....but if an extension is done anything beyond 2 years is absurd and just further torment to the fans.

I don't think it's certain that Dak will be inept, but the last 2 years have not been good enough to justify an extension. If anything, Dak is trending in the wrong direction.

Dak's QBR was in the mid 50s the last two years. Just not good enough.
Cooper was actually a point higher this year.

How does a player contribute to wins when they don't play in 6 of them? That is the point I was making. As for why other teams haven't had a great performance against a sub .500 playoff team, given there have been only a handful of instances it's a rather small sample size.

We all know that Jerry and Co will attempt to double down on their mistake and try and extend Dak to help the cap hit.

What are the chances that Dak's agent and or Dak have a higher asking price than our FO believes he is worth? Is there a chance that they just take it on the chin and ride the current deal out and move on if that's the case?

I'm not on the up and up when it comes to extensions, but is it set in stone that once talk starts Dak will be extended or could things go bad?
That's my Christmas wish! I don't Dakota "WENTZ 2.0" Prescot here any longer than he has to be and signing this stiff to an extension is only going to make matters worse with this offense.
