Lets say we have a healthy team and play well, making the playoffs.. The defense is vastly improved and no in game miscues. Could Red be recognized an awarded the Coach of the Year?

Honestly, about the same as us going deep into the playoffs or winning the SB. Not impossible, but highly unlikely. Besides, if we go deep into the playoffs or especially go to the SB, he deserves Coach of the Year honors. Funny how that works out.

Sure. Why not? Though I highly doubt it. I will say next year if we do well enough to keep Garrett around. I am a JG backer, but he will have to help us get to the playoffs, and win at least one game to keep his job. If not, I can see JJ saying enough is enough, and then we'll be back to starting all over again.

Coach of the year goes to one of the teams with the biggest turnaround, or the team that's nearly perfect.

Off of 8-8, in order to satisfy the biggest turnaround Dallas would also likely satisfy near perfection in the process.

There will be some random team that jumps from the gutter. Houston maybe. Not a particularly strong division with TEN and JAX and 4 additional games against teams that had 6 or fewer wins. Looks like 12 total games against teams that were .500 or worse.

Almost none. Not with the current reputation. He'd have to establish a pattern of winning or a pattern of dominance for a season or three.

I think his chances of winning a 5 year extension are a lot better than those of him winning CotY, though.

I think he has as good a chance as anyone else. The team has to show improvement above what is expected of them. That is not impossible.

I think the Mavs have a better chance of winning the 2014 NBA Finals.

Same chance as me tbh. If Garrett wins it this year I will extremely disappointed (despite my love for the Cowboys). Just means I didn't try hard enough. I had chance to be freaking Coach or the Year. Would be a real bummer for me.

Seeing that they were the 2nd or 3rd best team In these playoffs this year, I'd say you're being very generous.
