What are you looking for in a backup QB?

Big arm
Mobility
Poise
Ability to pick up the offense
The Ability to put the ball where it needs to be
Leadership Capabilities etc

As it stands now we have 1 QB under contract on this team, I think we're overlooking the fact that our current starting QB is coming off an injured season, and he may not be the same going forward in terms of availability. With that said, I see fans on here saying that we need to fix the trenches, and all other aspects of this team, but having a QB that can step in and give us some wins NOT NAMED RUSH/Lance is going to be helpful to this team!

I'm not sure Rush would want to come back anyways seeing how they did him the last game, please give your thoughts
Blimey!
1. Toughness
2. Accuracy
3. And tough love leadership

Ideally, I'd like to see a QB with overall talent, including accuracy, toughness, and running ability in the event of pressure. Speaking of pressure, let's also hope for a QB who is able to stand up to pressure with composure and quick reflexes that ooze of confidence. A strong arm usually helps, as well.

Granted, that's a lot to ask but there are some out there to choose from, if we're capable enough to recognize who qualifies. As always, a keen intelligence is a prerequisite for any QB, regardless of the team that he plays for. These are very valuable traits that apply to both starters and backups.

Would they have to trade up to get one is a the question I have to ask. Next question, could they get one in the second or even third round.

The traits that I listed are desirable to various extents, depending largely upon the role that the team acquiring them has in mind. Starters usually have greater abilities, while the backups have less.

Normally, their abilities tend to diminish in the later stages of their draft selection. Of course, there are exceptions. There is always an element of luck involved in the draft.

Acquiring a veteran QB is always far more costly, in terms of the money and/or draft picks often involved in a trade that becomes necessary.

Agreed, although sometimes people hit on them later in the first round and even the second round. I get what are saying though.
